- The Cobra 142GTL is a nice CB Radio Base Station. #cb #cbradio Now that they are some 40yrs old these rigs may need a little TLC to keep them on the air. IMHO.. that is 1/2 the fun of Radio.
HUGE......
SHOUT OUT to UDX-534 in Oregon for sending over a set of crystals.. Your a good Man!
IDK what 3MADE says :)
Great radio! I have one, haven’t turned it on in over 30 years. Want to get back into the hobby but will have to get a mobile.
The board is also the same as with the Craig L-232. I've seen one side by side with a 142gtl. Even the internal power supply and chassis. All great radios from Uniden.
I love the 142 I have two of them both Philippines model they are Awesome radios
I have a 142GTL that has no LSB. I'll look into the Death Glue and the LSB Xtal.
Must be like the sony bond in Kenwood's. Good deal on keeping 99 on the air
You hit it on the money Mr. Wagon Master. The glue corroded the LSB xtal as well.
I wonder who put the switching power supply in there. If that is a higher current supply, it would be a great candidate for a larger final output transistor. It really would. I wonder why it was changed. Good video. Take care.
142 was my base rig for many years. Great work!
I have the same radio I love it
I think the Tram D-300 runs the same board as well
I need radio work done on a cobra 142 gtl , caps , meters , my friend can’t hear me vary well hes 3 miles away, it pneed a good going through.
Awesome job Mike. The UDX community prevails again
I have a 142 the sideband does 1 watt. I don't know what's wrong with it.
You didn't show us what you did for the fix!
I have one I get very low receive
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Nice work.... yup I still got the RS TRC 490, KL203 and the Moxon, does fairly well. The RX is a little much, or "open" to bleed ova' , no Big radios over here near me on the "otherside" of the Rockies . peace..
Nice job thanks for second harmonic. Showing right way to things. 73 From the Green Hornet WB2HwW
Thank you sir
i was on cb back in 65 Coier 23 had lot fun, was 10 at time.
@@390WagonMaster I just picked up a 1993 phillipines version 142 gtl recently the radio is stock and looks are a 9.5 out of 10 the only issue I have is while talking on ssb I had reports that I sounded PINCHED whether it was barefoot or if I had some power on AM IS Fine so my question is DOES PINCHED MEAN OFF FREQUENCY? I’ve heard that could be as people were having a hard time clarifying me in. Thanks for any tips
Lil Bro- LOL
I always liked the 142. I thought it was a nicer radio then the 2000. Yeah, yeah...I don't want to hear it.
I say nothing.. I 'm keeping in mind that your a Hy-Gain guy..
Yeah I love my 142 my favorite
@@390WagonMaster Nothing wrong with being a hygain fan. lol
Looks like a power supply swap happened at some point as well.
Yes, and it clean...
Is it the same as the new or the old Washington? I assume the new because of the 5 pin mic connector…..
New version. I need to check but I think the 4 pin version is an 858 board. Not sure though.
Thank you!
My original Washington has the 4 pin and the 858 chip. My original Madison and Adams both have 4 pin mics and 858 chips. But I’ve learned through these decades, as you have, that when it comes to this industry, you can never be definitive about anything!🤣 I really like that chip, due to how easy it is to get so many channels out of it, and the board supports that pretty well. Just need switches and alignment.
I used my Madison to talk from St. Louis Missouri to Casper Wyoming on 27.805 SSB. It saved my my mom about a dollar per minute in long distance fees! (Ma Bell is a cheap mother😊) Those were the days!🤣
UDX444👍
@@390WagonMaster 858 Washington had 4 pin mic / 2 buttons / only a TX led... 8719 Washington had 5 pin mic / 3 buttons / RX led & TX led. :-)
I'm in the same predicament with my President P400 the glue ate the leg off the Lower Side Band Crystal if anyone has any corresponding crystals they're willing to sell let me know. Thanks
Give me the frequencies you need , if I don't have them I will post what you need to our community. Maybe one of "us" can help. 10.4?
@@390WagonMaster ten4. Not quite sure of the frequency to be honest with you I know it's LSB, been a while since I looked at it but it's the exact same situation as yours. I think that P400 is the same board but not quite sure?
