College senior here! So after my years of doing this cute little thing called music edu major I've gathered quite a lot. Starting off with the 6 slotted liberty 1 mallet bag I have 3 pairs of timpani mallets 1 wood. One medium hard. And 1 soft. I don't know how many marimba mallets I have but. I have the soft cangelosi bass mallets. The entire set of the mark form mallets. Green and purple. I have about 7 pairs of vibe mallets. Ranging from bass to as hard as rocks. 4 pairs if xylo mallets. Going from soft rubber to the ross greens. 2 pairs of glock mallets. A pair of the softer white ones and some acrylic ones I never really use becsuse our conductor always wants the cheap really bad brass mallets that are bent plastic shafts and screw on heads I have too many snare drum sticks to count. A couple pairs of brushes. Timbale sticks. Field snare sticks (for pipe band snare) For accessories I have 3 different drum keys. Different cloths for snare dampening. Black towels for making tray tables. Stick tape. Earaser ear plugs. A whole pack of pencils. And manuscript paper. Every single American coin for coin scrapes. Personal triangle clamp. That's everything in my mallet bag. Not nearly as much as some people have and probably too much for others.
Cool stuff Adam! Interesting to see what isn't so readily available in the UK. My go-to sticks are: Snare: Innovative Chris Lamb CL-1 Xylo: Malletech Enhanced Fundamental (ER41 I think - Red ones!); Acoustic Percussion OS5; Chalklin MS5 Glockenspiel: Acoustic Percussion OS1/2/5, Chalklin MS2, MS3 for solo/duo stuff, Chalklin MS19 for swizzle! Timpani: Angelini Percussion/Sean Hooper series mallets, depending on rep. Marimba: Mike Balter 84/Marimba One Roundsounds (lasted me all the way through 2 degrees, not replacing them now!) Got some discontinued Innovative Zivkovic 4s as well.
Personally I would change the VF sticks for some promark equivalents or IP just because VF wood isn't what it used to be and you're 12 year old sticks are definitely much sturdier than the SD1/2 you can buy these days.
I picked up 2 pairs of Vic Firth M25 Gary Burton mallets on sale instead of the Balter 23R and they've worked out nicely (primarily for my son for his middle school stick bag)
I'm more a freelancer but my setup is as follows Kolberg Viennese series (cant remember all the model numbers one is DFP 30) Vic Firth M3 staccato mallets (Timpani) Vic Firth M3 (yellow yarn) Vic Firth M125 Innovative percussion CL25?(the sticks Rob Knopper uses haha) Innovative percussion 5AB Vic Firth SD 2 Bolero Vic Firth Brushes Vic Firth SD6 swizzle Pencil Metronome Ear plugs Drum key At one stage I was carrying a hammer in my stick bag for the ships bell in Carmina Burana by Carl Orff Cape Town based percussionist and a huge fan of your channel Ethan
I impulsively bought almost everything you listed. Unfortunately, the stick bag you linked is too small for the marimba mallets you recommended. The zipper doesn't close over the top of them. Probably going to get the Galaxy Grip bag instead...
I have two pairs of Innovative Percussion Tom Rarick medium vibraphone mallets (IP3006), one pie of Vic Firth Ian Grom (M267) hard vibraphone mallets, one pie of innovative percussion (IP240) medium marimba mallets, and one pair of Vic Firth Ralph Hardiman marching snare sticks for clicking.
i feel this mallet bag is more solo focused than orchestral focused this is what my cheapish band/orchestra mallet bag looks like pair of timber soft rubber mallets: basically very cheap soft rubber mallets that work well with vibes /marimba in large ensemble pair of timber very hard rubber mallets: very cheap mallets for xylophone aux percussion or soft glock playing IP fundimental F9: good for loud xylophone or glock playing Innovative Percussion F1.5: if i need to play marimba in its low range but mostly used for cymbals Vic Firth SD1 gens: Concert snare stick I like spending a bit more on my timpani mallets because i see them as more important Vic Firth CT1 gens: used for medium or soft timpani playing Vic Firth T3 staccato: loud or stacatto timpani playing
My current mallet bag: Vic Firth bag 2 pairs of Malletech MM17 2 pairs of Malletech BB26 2 pairs of Malletech GS13 1 pair of Malletech BB34 1 pair of Malletech BB32 1 pair of 5B drumsticks 1 pair of TXDC50W snare sticks 1 pair of TS8 tenor sticks 1 drum key
If you're still looking I would go with the Adams 4.3 Padouk Concert instead of the soloist series because the soloist does not have graduated bars like most concert marimbas do and going from practice at home to your marimba at school will have different size intervals. I'd say it's worth the extra $300.
My mallet bag: fyi im in 8th grade 13 yrs old 4 marimba one dhr3 2 vicfirth m3 2 vicfirth bell mallets idk which ones 2 vic firth 5an 2 vic firth sd1 generals 2 mike balter b22r And vic firth mallet bag

Adam Tan Hi Adam, I wanted to ask you to watch this, ruclips.net/video/hN58yfow_mw/видео.html you’ll love it
College senior here!
So after my years of doing this cute little thing called music edu major I've gathered quite a lot.
Starting off with the 6 slotted liberty 1 mallet bag
I have 3 pairs of timpani mallets
1 wood.
A pair of the softer white ones and some acrylic ones I never really use becsuse our conductor always wants the cheap really bad brass mallets that are bent plastic shafts and screw on heads
I have too many snare drum sticks to count. A couple pairs of brushes. Timbale sticks.
Field snare sticks (for pipe band snare)
For accessories I have 3 different drum keys.
My go-to sticks are:
Snare: Innovative Chris Lamb CL-1
Xylo: Malletech Enhanced Fundamental (ER41 I think - Red ones!); Acoustic Percussion OS5; Chalklin MS5
Glockenspiel: Acoustic Percussion OS1/2/5, Chalklin MS2, MS3 for solo/duo stuff, Chalklin MS19 for swizzle!
That's a pretty nice rounded setup! Haven't heard of a lot of these brands, I have to get to the UK sometime :)
Personally I would change the VF sticks for some promark equivalents or IP just because VF wood isn't what it used to be and you're 12 year old sticks are definitely much sturdier than the SD1/2 you can buy these days.
Hi Adam I was wondering what a good next marimba solo would be . I have played “YelLOw AftEr ThE RaIN “ what’s next ?
Hey man! Maybe try something like ghost garden, rotation ii, Michi, there's heaps!!
I would suggest Path by Adam Tan
Therese Ng i wanna play that song actually
@@RK-yg7ne You will love it
Adam Tan what would be a easy 4mallet solo I suck at four mallets
You are very neat and organized :)
I picked up 2 pairs of Vic Firth M25 Gary Burton mallets on sale instead of the Balter 23R and they've worked out nicely (primarily for my son for his middle school stick bag)
Ah yes I have the burtons too, definitely a great mallet if you don't mind the softer attack :)
Adam, I would like to see do a presentation of the encore DW 1,2,&3. Malletech Dave Samuels series. And encore DW vibe series. Thanks!
I'm more a freelancer but my setup is as follows
Kolberg Viennese series (cant remember all the model numbers one is DFP 30)
Vic Firth M3 staccato mallets (Timpani)
Vic Firth M3 (yellow yarn)
Vic Firth M125
Innovative percussion CL25?(the sticks Rob Knopper uses haha)
Innovative percussion 5AB
Vic Firth SD 2 Bolero
Vic Firth Brushes
Vic Firth SD6 swizzle
Pencil
Metronome
Ear plugs
Drum key
At one stage I was carrying a hammer in my stick bag for the ships bell in Carmina Burana by Carl Orff
Cape Town based percussionist and a huge fan of your channel
Ethan
I impulsively bought almost everything you listed. Unfortunately, the stick bag you linked is too small for the marimba mallets you recommended. The zipper doesn't close over the top of them. Probably going to get the Galaxy Grip bag instead...
Oh man you are quick!!! Yes these small bags can only really carry so much unfortunately
I have two pairs of Innovative Percussion Tom Rarick medium vibraphone mallets (IP3006), one pie of Vic Firth Ian Grom (M267) hard vibraphone mallets, one pie of innovative percussion (IP240) medium marimba mallets, and one pair of Vic Firth Ralph Hardiman marching snare sticks for clicking.
in marching band i break at least one or two pairs of sticks a season!
i feel this mallet bag is more solo focused than orchestral focused
this is what my cheapish band/orchestra mallet bag looks like
pair of timber soft rubber mallets: basically very cheap soft rubber mallets that work well with vibes /marimba in large ensemble
pair of timber very hard rubber mallets: very cheap mallets for xylophone aux percussion or soft glock playing
IP fundimental F9: good for loud xylophone or glock playing
Innovative Percussion F1.5: if i need to play marimba in its low range but mostly used for cymbals
Vic Firth SD1 gens: Concert snare stick
I like spending a bit more on my timpani mallets because i see them as more important
Vic Firth CT1 gens: used for medium or soft timpani playing
Vic Firth T3 staccato: loud or stacatto timpani playing
Oh hey, I have the same exact stick bag, and it's my first one as well
Any chance you think you could review the Anthony Di Sanza mallets from Encore? I've been looking into them but I haven't seen much about them.
I carry Vic Firth 5a sticks
TJ2 leggerio snare sticks
Bb billy club tenor sticks
Vic Firth Nylon metals
And two pairs of Vic Firth M3s
I’m cheap
My current mallet bag:
Vic Firth bag
2 pairs of Malletech MM17
2 pairs of Malletech BB26
2 pairs of Malletech GS13
1 pair of Malletech BB34
1 pair of Malletech BB32
1 pair of 5B drumsticks
1 pair of TXDC50W snare sticks
1 pair of TS8 tenor sticks
1 drum key
I am looking forward to update to Promark System Blue mallets rather than Malletech.
If you're going into MS percussion try to buy Vic Firth SD1s, because many middle schools REQUIRE you to buy one.
Is a Adams 4.3 oct Soloist padouk marimba good for beginners or do you think a pearl em1 malletstation would be a better choice?
I have the padouk adams marimba and i love it! I would reccomend it. Unfortunately idk abt the Other one
If you're still looking I would go with the Adams 4.3 Padouk Concert instead of the soloist series because the soloist does not have graduated bars like most concert marimbas do and going from practice at home to your marimba at school will have different size intervals. I'd say it's worth the extra $300.
Nice
Can't believe you completely skipped over timpani mallets!
My mallet bag: fyi im in 8th grade 13 yrs old
4 marimba one dhr3
2 vicfirth m3
2 vicfirth bell mallets idk which ones
2 vic firth 5an
2 vic firth sd1 generals
2 mike balter b22r
And vic firth mallet bag
Do more video man or something 😑
