  • Shinzen clarifies and responds to a student's report during a group process regarding global vanishings and "noting gone", which is a theme in the Focus on Change strategy. He answers the implicit questions 1) Why is this happening? and 2) What should I do about it?
Shinzen talks about noting primordial feel and working with vanishings. He goes on to say that this helps work through the first thing that in your first few hours and days after being born separated us from our spiritual source. The adult meditator applies the technique which helps work through the primordial freak out of the infant. That’s the linchpin of the freak out of the adult and the teenager and all the intermediate levels from infant to adult.
Eventually, an experience of the freaked out infant leads to the infant becoming its cosmic parents (expansion and contraction). Then zero is re-established - the next gone - and you are that. But this zero is inherently unstable. This gives rise to the expansive and contractive forces creating space while giving rise to the pure heat of feeling. If you go through this cycle enough times you will have completely reparented yourself, and the adult that will arise from that process will be called an enlightened human.

This is unbelievably helpful. I've been getting very agitated body sensations, like someone's walking over my grave, on over 50% of the vanishings. I knew it was OK, but despite having other teachers/pointers give me direction, I've not had anyone explain this so perfectly. I hope someone watching this channel can tell Shinzen thanks for me.

noticing the vanishing of the entire present moment into the void, total nonexistence, while at the same time arising of the new present moment cuts through conceptual frameworks of self space and time. noticing that continual interplay of reality and the void and knowing there is no difference between them is a powerful mindfulness practice

Só beautiful and profound words. They can almost describe seeing a pure heat fetus in a mirror, inside a snowy and dark winter garden, where a sad man also stands, just like you, although he looks much more sad than you, for you had such a glorious vision. You can only wonder what it might look like to watch Khnum holding the yellow jar with a red rectangle. I bet it’s like crossing the waters of Lethe and being received by the light of Ra, which will gently evaporate the cold water on your skin, like only a mother can do so gently.

I don't think nike would be very interested....seeing as they are so physically attuned to body beautiful imagery and displays of power! But thats just me putting in my two cents. These are interesting times!

I'm really interested in the commentary obviously that has taken place with Ahizen around his teaching "style" and how people like it or not. I would have thought teaching style is a tool...but not the experience...whereby experience is the work done in the practice? This video I found really profound that in a class session....someone is at real break through. I hope Shizen doesn't feel the need to prove his ability to teach by needing a confirmation to be filmed in order that we get a sense of success in this work! Although....it was satisfying and a little spine chilling to witness a moment in anothers breakthrough and how Shinzen responds to that. Very cool!!

Interesting. Wu Wei the baby with Yin/Yang Mummy and Daddy. Think that is what is meant. No wonder Chan is a term of endearment in Nippon.
