This is actually kind of fun! I never knew there were so many varying facts about american monies. Thank you for your videos and for taking the time to instruct us.
The thing about Barr notes is, when they came out people were aware that this was an anomaly. Likely to be the shortest tenure for a Treasury Secretary ever. Therefore, tons of people kept the ones they came across at the time. That has kept them from being worth more. I too pulled them out initially because they were from the early 60's. The signature stuck out to me because it looked sloppy and big and I was pretty sure I hadn't seen that name before. It wasn't until later that I learned why these were special. Love the channel!
I would have left a like. I do every video I watch of yours but we all know how RUclips works we all know why you're doing it and we all know why you want the algorithms to work for you. Inform us on what brings us here. You are very informative and in your element dude
When I was a paper boy in the mid 80's, I had a customer who said she was looking for those bills. I sold her dozens of the Barr notes at face value. Sigh.
Gothmolg ..... Don't feel bad I got talked out of a silver Morgan dollar? I sold it for a lousy $2. I still get mad at myself! I know the person but I am sure it's worth lots of money 💰 now no way am I going to get it back! Just have to learn from our stupid mistakes! 😥 😠 😢😕😷😷😷😷😷😷😷😷😎😎
This comment is fake. Why would you sell a 1 dollar bill for 1 dollar? Even if you thought that they were only worth face value, it would be a pointless trade. Also, when a kid heres that something they have is cool, they aren't going to trade it for a less cool version.
@@chachcadi271 You were obviously never a paper boy. It was all about making your customers happy and getting tips. For the second time time today, I feel old.
Know this is 3 years late, but your video popped up on you tube yesterday afternoon and unbelievably, I actually got a Barr note in change this morning. San Francisco. Is in rough shap though. Just thought it was cool to get one the next day after watching your video.
I get $100 straps from the bank all the time to search through them for rare notes and about 4 months ago I found a bar note and I just I could not believe it because the bill was such good shape it didn't even have any creases in it it was immaculate so they are out there I know from personal experience that they are
For some strange reason I remembered my Dad talking about these back in the 60"s. So I have always looked for them. I found one a few months back so it's in my currency collection!
@@Silverpicker Long story but no. I started back in the early 60's with a bag of Walkers, Mercury dimes and Buffalo nickels and some other stuff. Had a pretty good size bag, maybe a couple pounds? Mom took it cause she needed cocktails! But off and on over a few decades I saved, collected and sold. Then I got back into it kinda heavy over the last 5 years or so. Have been coin and currency searching pretty heavy. Probably something like 10 or 15 thousand over the last couple years.I've found what I think are some pretty cool things. Star notes, a Barr note, Radars, Repeaters, Binaries, etc. But also a lot of coin errors also. Plus those key coins many like to keep. I was going through a $500 box of quarters while watching your vid. Ist time I'd seen a vid on the Barr notes. Found a 53 Silver Quarter in the middle of your video!
I've been a bartender for too long to mention and have always squirreled away older bills. Paused this early on and checked my stack. Found three, all J's! I did not expect it to be a financial windfall, but still super cool. This is why I collect, just for the fun of finding something different. Thanks picker, liked and sub'd.
Super, super happy that this video helped you find some additional value in your collection. Banknote searching was always my favorite fringe benefit of tending bar. What kind of bar do you work at? I was at a performing arts theater.
I work at a dive college bar, have for a long time, it keeps me young. Just finished a 16 hour shift on one of our local schools homecoming, I feel old.
Geez! Silverpicker, You had me stopped at the middle of the viewing. I thought, I had 1963 dollar bills. Unfortuneately, I only have Series of 1963 and 1963 A, No Series B. I thought I saw this a long time ago. But, thanks for "Woken" me while on you tube.
I actually had a similar story to yours, I had gone to KFC to pick up supper and I had gotten a 1963B $1 bill as part of the change, So I thought “Hey, This isnt something you see every day” So I took it home and put it in my currency album and kinda forgot about it until I watched this video, Turns out, Its a Barr note from New York! 😄
I know this video is 3 years old but, my dad back in the 70's started collecting the Barr notes, he had if I remember correctly a little over 6000 of them. Well he decided he needed a car and paid cash with those Barr notes (remember this was back in the 70's so car prices were a lot cheaper).
I actually found 1 about 4 months ago searching through bank tellers $100 strap of singles and the bill didn't even have a crease in it it was immaculate I couldn't believe it when I saw it
I have 4 of these Barr notes. 2 are from the Chicago Illinois bank 1 from Richmond Virginia 1 new York One of the Barr notes is in uncirculated condition ( worth around $4.00 ) And I managed to find the bills in Ohio at a antique store.
Great, informative vid. I actually thought Mr. Barr's term was cut short due to his untimely passing. Happy I was wrong. I do have 100 consecutive 1963B Barr notes in the original bank strap in excellent, uncirculated condition. Acquired well over ten years ago, maybe closer to twenty.
Thanks! I just binge-watched (and subscribed) several of your videos on the $1 bill. Of course I also checked all of mine...nope, not a single special one. I'll be going to the bank soon!
@@Silverpicker Actually my favorite note right now is not a fancy serial number but instead is a large size two dollar United States note series 1917 that my son and daughter in law gave me for my birthday last month. I recently did a video showing it.
@@Silverpicker I like hearing the history about specific coins. There was a RUclips series, I forget who, that talked about American gold coins. Interesting stuff
It's been 60 years. $1 bills usually get recycled and burnt after certain years or get too torn. There is no way you can get one Barr bill in exchange. Maybe you can find one if you work in the Fed facility recycling the bill like the 3 women in movie Mad Money. I had about $200 - $300 used $1 bills, and all I could find was one 1995 $1, all else are 2003 or later years.
Hey Silverpicker: Quick Question: How rare is it to have four $1 bills with consecutive serial numbers(every number the same except the last) Stumbled across it yesterday and found it pretty neat
I have 3 uncirculated Barr Notes (1963-B) in sequential order. My uncle used to work for the US Treasury. Unfortunately, I had sold much of my collection of Peace Dollars and Morgans to a dealer and only got melt values for them. Now in looking back that was a stupid move by me since the 1922 Peace Dollar - depending on the type could have been worth a fortune. But I was not into the coins that much and needed the money. So, if one uncirculated Barr Note sold for $125.00. What would you think 3 uncirculated notes in sequential order would be worth. I would think at least $500.00. I also have a trinary bills and radar's and a super repeater which I would like to sell. But I am thinking of going thru an auction to get these sold.

I have five that I've had since the '70s. Two from New York and one from every other mint except San Francisco and none of them are star notes. They are in heavily circulated condition.
Does anyone know someone I could show a few error coins I think they are punch throughs or when you can see the back on the front and parts of the front on the back and also I've got a ton of Star notes I'm going to go check them out and see if any of them are special so I appreciate that

Not at all actually. If you go to the bank and ask for a stack of brand new ones, they'll give you 100 consecutive notes.
Not all that rare or valuable unless it's a very old bill or has interesting serial numbers. For example if it was 00000001, 00000002, etc
