    Hi,
i don't know if your really trying to do this, but i've watched through almost all of your recent videos and it really helps me to (hopefully) understand my boyfriend. I don't know if anyone has ever told you, but i think your videos are not only providing help for people that are actually affected in a rather direct way, but they also help people who are in a close relationship, or an actual relationship :), with Trans-Persons to somehow help them to make it through the day and provide some feeling of stability.Your vids really help me to provide him with (hopefully atleast a bit of) the feeling of "being understood". This sounds fucking stupid and i know it isn't really possible to relate or anything, but it is really a huge challenge in my eyes.

Doesn't sound stupid at all. Quite the opposite in fact. It is one of my aims to help improve understanding of transition and trans folk and what we go through so it makes my day to read tour comment. I am so very very glad to help. Sending you a massive hug! Thank you x

I’m trans who was diagnosed with hypothyroidism since I was 8 I’m 19 now..
It sucks because I experienced all the symptoms and it’s very unpleasant, especially the mental health and the swallowing.
I had blood test every day for almost 2 weeks back then, because they said I was too ‘young’ to get that lol, so they kept a close eye on me for a couple of years. But here I am now, still on meds, severe anxiety, depression and a suicide survivor.. but now I finally got goals for my future, so the suicide attempt was a huge mistake.
    Hypothyroidism sucks

Ah the thyroid is a ticky beast! Im generally now a lot better than I was, but I am still having the occassional boats of wonky thyroid. Just keep chatting to your doctor, it is so important to advocate for ourselves and get the right treatment. Good luck!

Low SHBG = higher levels of testosteron in women.
It can be because of hypothyrodism, pcos and so on.
I have low SHBG and up and down mood.
3 weeks i can feel manic, and then crash down in a depression. It’s fucking awful, and it has worsened through the years. After some research myself, I finally am gonna ask for a in depth of my thyroid. Cause I think all of this is related to my mental health.. I don’t believe i got BPD, as my recent diagnosis. I fully believe it’s because of my thyroid.
And unfortunately, you gotta be your own advocate. Mental health is directly linked to your thyroid, no joke.
The doctors don’t have a lot of knowledge in this area, and they often than not miss the link between body and mind. They don’t fully have a holistic view yet..

I'm going through something like this. Though I have a great GP. However I am not being told much. I also got my gallbladder removed in December 2020. I'm not T been on T for 6/7 ish years. I am FTM. I had a few years ago with a blood test that was off with my thyroid being underactive and it was checked again and was fine This time now it is underactive again and I have more signs and symptoms of a underactive thyroid but since I had a break through in bleeding the past 2 months now...and they sound something on the ultrasound I had done with near the cervix.
I just turned 24. lol. My mental health, mood, body temperature , joints, headaches, skin, appetite, sleep, depression, low energy, swallowing trouble, etc. My doctors response was to deal with one thing at a time but my counsellors and some family members are like depression and encourage me to talk to my doctor about anti-depressants again. I really hope I get full answers in June next month.

Thanks for sharing this! My thyroid level is on the low end at And I have to go soon to the endocrinologist
I’m on hormones as well (testosterone) and I have a severe b12 deficiency for what seems like no reason I am not vegan , I eat b12 foods it’s so so low. I also have a vitmain D deficiency now as well.. can T affect your vitamins and thyroid? Or is it separate I don’t know if anyone in the comments would know

From my understanding, T can make underlying/preexisting thyroid issues worse, but it doesn't really affect treatment other than you need to keep an eye on it, same as like cholesterol or anything else. My thyroid had been borderline low since puberty (round 1), but as of starting T 7 months ago it was actually normal. I have bloodwork today, so we'll see if that's changed. I do feel like shit in ways that might be attributed to thyroid, but I think it's more likely just the stress of moving back in with my parents...

three years ago i was diagnozed with Hypothyroidism and at the same time started my medical transition. my Endocrinologist set a condition that i must balance my Hypothyroidism before getting Nebido because the thyroid responsible for hormonal body balance and since then (i take every morning one pill) and used to do blood checks every 3 months for one year and after that every 6 months and now once a year because i'm balanced. it took me one year to balance my thyroid and since then i don't suffer from migrane depression ect.
I hope you managed to get over the medical thyroid issues - feel well and stay full of life and joy.

Hi Finn! My cis sis and I were diagnosed with hypothyroidism just 24hrs apart about 3 weeks ago. She's 61, I'm 59. My GP said it is hereditary, and we think that our mum probably had it, too, but was never diagnosed. I also have the mood swing, weight gain, loss of appetite, exhaustion, I put it down to T until big sis said she has the same. Had to push my GP to test it but when the result came back it was blatantly obvious that it wasn't side effects of T. I'm on 100 microgr. of Levothyroxine, my sis only on 50. May I ask how high your dose is? Oh, yes, I've been following you for yonks now, (bought the forks t-shirt) and must say your windmills are definitely getting an upwind, in todays videoI thought you were going to take off! Hugs, Gideon.

Is it possible that hypothyroidism and the resulting hormone imbalances played a role in your feeling you were meant to be male? Please don’t be offended by my question. It’s just that there are parallel explosions of Hashimoto’s and of girls adopting a trans male identity, and so many FTM who have hypothyroidism.

    • @FinnTheInfinncible
      @FinnTheInfinncible  3 года назад

I have never heard of "parallel explosions of hashimotos and girls adopting a trans male identity." Do you have a link to that information?
I do not think HT played a role at all. It doesnt effect testoserone/estrogen and doesnt play a role in gender identity development either. The reason HT more common in trans men than cis men is because we started out with a female biological system, and generaly HT arrises more commonly in female biology more than male biology

I also have hypothyroidism Finn, if you need a shat about anything you're welcome to mail me. If it makes you feel better I have had the same thoughts regarding thinking I may have been diabetic and/or bipolar when my medication dosage was unstable. I have found that puberty has had an effect on my thyroxine treatment. Although I can relate in a way, I have congenital Hypothyroidism, which was diagnosed at 6days old so have had more time to get my levels stable prior to starting T. The doctors I've spoken to don't seem to think that there's a link between testosterone treatment and my thyroid. Although evidently I think it does considering how unstable my testosterone treatment made my TSH/T3 levels, but it did the same during puberty the first time, so it could just be due to hormonal changes in general.

I admit, I know NOTHING about the health care system in England, but would it be possible to be seen by just ONE GP who will know your medical history so you don't have to repeat it every time? I can only imagine how frustrating that is and how much it almost defeats the purpose of SEEING a physician! I'm excited you at least now know why some of the things are happening, and what needs to be done to start correcting it. Hang in there kiddo, it WILL get better! I was thinking of asking my GP for a thyroid test as my symptoms are similar to yours. I also have skin problems which can also be thyroid related and I have developed bad circulation whilst being on T. But my metabolism is basically dead right now (fatigue, depression, slow digestion, etc.). I am just waiting the blood results from my endo appointment first. They said that my problems are unlikely to be related to my transition and I need to go to my GP for further investigation which as you said at the beginning of this video, is very difficult! It takes at least a month to get a routine appointment. :/

I was diagnosed with thyroid problems back in January. I have been on medication since then. I don't think it is doing much but then I ha e a terribly stressful job. I don't think my thyroid issue is due to testosterone. I think it is simply old age. But it is a tiny little pill once a day and I take it most of the time. Sometimes I forget even though Alexa reminds me. Lol I haven't had any negative effects since I have been taking it.

Hi Finn I also have an underactive thyroid.. It may have been slowly deteriorating for years. Make sure you get bloods taken regularly at the start to make sure you have got the right dose. I am not transgender but I know it controls your whole endocrine system it played havoc with my hormones. I would speak to your endocrinologist My mum also has hypothyroidism. There are different causes of underactive thyroid I have Hashimotos which is when your immune system attacks your thyroid glad this type is hereditary and also goes hand in hand with Addisons disease but not always. I would get checked to see if it is autoimmune hypothyroidism as your medication may need to be adjusted from time to time. But once the thyroxine kicks in you will feel like a new person. Tip take it an hour before you eat when you get up in the morning and don't have it with canine or calcium supplements/foods I.e. milk. But on the plus side you get free prescriptions for life. Get an exemption form from the docs. Best of luck Finn

Thank you my friend. I have now registered with a new doctor and I plan to ask for a detailed screening, especially as my mum had both under active thyroid and addisons. Thank you so much for your helpful comment!

Great advice, completely agree. See the British Thyroid Foundation for some fab info leaflets and newsletters to learn best practice for both patient and doctor. When your thyroid is low it's like you're slowly going mad and aging at the same time. The tabs take several days to kick in then you'll start feeling the clouds lift. You'll be able to think and move again. Then your skin and hair will improve. And lots more, including wound healing. Just beware overshooting. Being over active isn't pleasant either and is dangerous if left too long.
Well done you for switching Drs. That takes guts and oomph! Good luck!

Since I have quite a few medical issues and a family history of thyroid problems, I've had my thyroid check several time and thankfully it's not misbehaving. I know all too well though what it's like to not have your doctor listen to you. I had that problem with my chronic pain. The doctor I have now is pretty good. The doctor I loved recommended her when my doctor left, so I got lucky there. But before I swichted to the clinic with the doctors I love, I kept getting crappy doctor that rotated every year or two. Like you described I'd have to give them a run down of my medical history. When I kept saying my pain meds weren't taking care of the pain, it was till impacting my life way too much. I never said anything about wanting more hydrocodone, my pain is actually better controlled with muscle relaxer. Anyway when I told the one doctor that I was still in pain, the first thing out of her mouth was "I can't give you anymore hydros." I was speechless for a moment then said something to the effect of, "I never said I wanted more, I just said I was still in pain." The next fly-by doctor I had after that, I changed tactics. I kept mentioning that I could do certain chores around the house because I was hurting so much. Her response? "You must like doing dishes, you keep mentioning it." Sigh.... I was so happy when friend told me about the doctor I had up until the first of the year. She was awesome, but her bosses switch her to clinic that doesn't take my insurance. I've only seen, the doctor she recommended, twice now but she seems to be just as cool.
I'm glad you finally got answers. :) We're our best advocates when it comes to medical stuff. The squeeky wheel gets the grease, and all that.

I'm not aware of a link. It might be an idea to speak to your endo ! Or if your GP is managing it, you could them to check your T levels as they're checking your thyroid hormones just to make sure they're not being affected by the new treatment

FinnTheInfinncible just to say that if you don't have a gap before food, nothing dangerous or horrid will happen - there's not a reaction or anything. The food just lessens your absorption of the thyroxine and so you need a higher dose to get the required effect. Just in case you were worrying or losing sleep, literally, which could be more damaging overall. Take care.
