    Thank you, I enjoyed this. Please, please do more of these Coffee and Books segments. I too feel that computers are no replacement for books. I am interested in finding out where good aquarium books are found beyond what Amazon's algorithms show you. A couple months ago, I picked up a copy of your book "The 101 Best Freshwater Nano Species" and I love it. I carry it with me when I go to the aquarium store to check out their inventory and "imagine the possibilities". Now you've got me thinking about that book on the Orinoco basin.

    Yes, I'd be interested in more content like this (I'm also a "printed book" person). It's difficult to navigate in the jungle of books. I bought a book called "Aquarian Atlas" by Dr. Rüdiger Riehl and Hans A. Baensch and the content, knowledge and ambition were there, but I could hardly read it, because the translation into Swedish was just awful. Google translate would have done a better job. The book isn't cheap, so I don't get why they didn't take the translation seriously. So yes, if you'd guide people like me, I'd be ever so grateful!

Do you have books you've encountered that were similar for other geographic regions that you have found useful and would recommend? I know for example you've put a *ton* of work into the hillstream tank, which has a bunch of southeast and east asian species--did you encounter any awesome print resources while researching that tank that helped you decide on plant choices, stocking choices, etc?

    I love books. Fiction, non fiction it doesn't matter. I recently purchased your book on Amazon. Listing said like new but if Amazon had used common sense to box it, then it would have been new condition haha. It is a great little book by the way. Really love the page thickness, photos of the fish- the shrimp look amazing, and it's incredible how much information is packed between the cover. I know most viewers aren't into the science or book discussions or anything remotely educational, but I am one of the few who does enjoy that kind of content. Product peeks are nice. It spreads the word and gives us an idea of the quality. Thank you for another wonderful video.

Side note: we took our kids out to explore some small waterways and took binoculars to observe the fish from a distance. Everyone was so intrigued! • @JoshsFish

      Hi Craig, I'm dyslexic too and understand where you're coming from! I wrote and designed The Bichir Handbook, and also designed Fishes of the Orinoco in the Wild, so know the struggle with dyslexia and books. I actually created both with a consideration of dyslexia!
      In the bichir book, I keep things to the point and take an almost infographic approach, keeping important pieces of information within easy-to-read graphics. I keep things visual throughout, big blocks of text can be intimidating and are hard to focus on! I had a similar approach with Ivan's, treating it more like an art gallery than a book, text is minimal, it's the images which take the stage.
      I agree, Rachel does an amazing job at conveying great information, but definitely don't write off books, there are so many amazing dyslexic-friendly ones out there! :)

    At $35 the Bichir Handbook seems like a real bargain. The Orinoco book at $125 is definitely overpriced. Ivan must value himself highly, LOL. Books are obsolete as far as I am concerned. Hauled around books for many years and am so glad I can have all the reading I desire in the palm of my hand! I much prefer the 21st century. In deepest gratitude for technology, I will pass on any more books. (And have been for over a decade, got my Masters Degree and never bought a book! Yes, we are truly in the age of abundance.)

    • @JoshsFish
      @JoshsFish 3 года назад +2

      I did the design and production for Ivan's book and it was expensive to print haha: 400 pages, large format with thick, silk coated paper, H&T bands with an antiscuff lam jacket. The pandemic also doubled shipping rates since last April, and I believe most of the postage was covered in the cover price. Ivan isn't making a lot of money from the book, he wanted the book to be as affordable as possible for what it is. While the book is understandably still a lot of money, production-wise it's great value, especially if this is the type of book you're after!
