When you realize Nito's dominion over death and the undead extends to even the most powerful of being in Lordran, it makes a little more sense why Gwyn seemed to distrust him. Or, at the very least, why Gwyn would place more value on a despicable being like Seathe over Nito. The most prevalent lie in all of history is the lie that death has meaning/value, and I think this is something that makes Nito a very anti-loyal person. He has no interest in the makings of the world and more than likely only participated in the war against the ancient dragons because he deemed their deaths "a natural inevitability" which speaks a lot about the kind of philosophies he believed in: Virtually none.
Nito is very much like how other interpretations of death are themselves. It isn't a person. It's not about reason or virtues and the only true meaning behind it are those ascribing their own mewling ideologies to it out of fear or misplaced reverence. Death *is.* This makes Nito a very easy person to distrust since this very fact of death means that the Gravelord would seek no true loyalty to anybody. And since we know Gwyn to *at the very least* be fearful of the endtimes and paranoid about the implications of his age ending, that would make Nito a very concerning "ally" to him. If the Age of Fire is truly ending, does Nito truly not seek it's restoration? Does Nito's rule over all things deathly and undead prevent him from sharing those fears of the Dark? Will Nito not stand to fight to preserve all that he has helped to build? Will Nito truly place more "value" in the death of all things, no matter the circumstance?
I've always found it suspicious that Gwyn was so ready to make sure the Furtive Pygmy and the Pygmy Lords were satiated and tucked away in a place where he thought he could keep an eye on them, but when it came to Nito? No, Gwyn seemed perfectly happy to watch Nito vanish into the darkness of the Tomb of the Giants. And when vultures in the catacombs sought to disturb the nature of his being, Gwyn conveniently had no prescience to speak of.
I would kill to know what kind of conversations Nito had before Dark Souls 1. I respect the hell out of him for his seemingly unflinching nature. He had a duty, and unlike every would-be God that lived in the Age of Fire, Nito was committed to doing his fucking job, for ill or for good.

It's interesting because, if the Age of Fire were to indeed fade... ''death'' would not be a factor anymore, since basically it would be the age of immortal humanity. The natural ''death'' Nito embodies is only real under the Age of Fire, and not present at all in both ages before and after it. One would think he would fight to defend it, but perhaps, being death, trying to artificially not allow the Age to run its course *also* goes against his nature. Maybe that is why he simply abstained: he would not fight for one side or another, he would just let things be and see what came of it.
When Frampt says that the owners of the souls are no longer useful or ''chosen the path of the wicked'', it feels weird because we can point most of them towards the path against Gwyn: Izalith waged war against him, the Four Kings are his direct enemy, and Seath's madness arguably put him against Gwyn's progeny, with Nito seeming to be the only one to fall in the ''outlived his usefulness'' (we can argue the same for Seath, tho). We know the Lord Souls left the vessel after the events of DS1, returning to the world, and that's why ''death'' as a concept continued to exist, so there was no real pheasible reason for Nito to oppose us if his ''agenda'' was to continue the Age of Fire.

Sounds kinda like Hades, with that description. From memory, he was basically one of the only Greek gods to just do their job, rather than torment mortals, or do random nonsense. Nito falls into that same boat: Doing his job, largely leaving mortals alone, and all the other "gods" doing their own crap (Gwyn particularly...).

first time I played ds1 and saw the starting cut scene nito instantly became my favorite, I was first hesitant to agree on the fact that hes the most mysterious but thinking more about it you can envision each and every lord and their intentions except nito. He really does embody cold indifferent grim death

excellent point about Nito's covenent, very cool video! I noticed in darksouls 3 every lord of the first flame was mentioned, and followed up plots we did not expect, the high lord wolnier seemed to supplant nito's iconography

Yeah, seems like ds2 explored then ds3 flatlined exploration on Nito. They should've done a further exploration on the Fenito.
Are there going to be a future video on Patches or no?

Totally agree! I might do a video on Patches once I have something to say about him lol. Great character though. I am playing through demons souls for the first time and love his role in it so far

Carthus Catacombs sit atop the Lost Isalith though, just like the Tomb of the Giants did. Sure, it's not exactly in the same location, but it's close enough. It's basically the same place.

And I believe Nito's role as the god of death is the reason for his obscurity. He brings death and disease, who in their right mind would want his attention?

    • @xLevelT
      @xLevelT  День назад +1

Seems like a different culture to me. If it was the same place there would have at least been a nod to him or use of similar visual assets for storytelling like what we see with the dead demons and the daughter of chaos corpse in Izalith. Simply being a place where the skeleton enemies are wasn’t enough for me personally to interpret it as the reincarnation of the catacombs/tomb of giants. Thanks for checking out the vid!

I don't agree that Aldrich ate Nito. My theory is that there was a love story between Nito and Priscilla. Hawkshaw tells it. My theory is that when Aldrich ate Gwyndolin, he got her memories. And in Gwyndolin's memories he saw the forbidden love of Nito and Priscilla. This allowed Aldrich to “imagine” and use Priscilla's Lifehunt power and Nito's Sword. It is also very likely that it was Nito who gifted Priscilla with the Lifehunt power. The occult rebels wanted to steal Nito's power to harm Gwyn and the Gods. I think this is a sign that Nito is much more powerful than previously thought. Another interesting theory is that the poison inside the Sinh the Slumbering Dragon in DS2 was never actually planted by Queen Elena. There is a theory that Sinh swallowed all the poisonous miasma that Nito spread during the battle with the Primordial Lords in the Age of Ancients. Sinh is disturbed by this, and when Sir Yorgh thrust his spear into Sinh's stomach, so much poison was released that it is the source of all the poison in Drangleic. This explains why the poison in DS2 is almost as deadly as the “Rot” in the Elden Ring. Harvest Valley, Earthen Peak are all poisonous for this reason. I don't think it's a coincidence that Queen Mytha turned into a snake because of the poison, an ordinary poison can't be like that. That's why I think Nito is the cause of the poison in Sinh's stomach, but these are just my theories.
It's good to see Nito and Dark Souls still being talked about at this time, very nice video bro!

Yeah i remember nito... I remember how my knees exploded every time I jumped down into his boss arena wow he really didn't want guests.
I think he's supposed to be the other part of the duality. The dragons existed without true life or death, but Gwyn and his followers brought both. The fire gives birth to life, but the witches got too big for their brithches and messed everything up by cranking the flame. In comparison, I think Nito was responsible and didn't feel the need to chase ridiculous ambitions. Maybe he's on the opposite side of the spectrum if Pinwheel is taking advantage of his content state; his indifference causes its own problems.

When I first started Dark Souls, I was kind of scared, ngl. Hearing all the intimidating story exposition broken by the name “Nito” made me laugh, and I see, in a way, as the start to me enjoying Dark Souls.
