With the introduction of a few new ChromeOS tablets in the past year, it can be easy to get a little confused about which one to pick up if you are in the market for a detachable Chromebook. But the brutal truth at this point is the only Chromebook tablets worth considering come from Lenovo, and that means one of the toughest decisions for anyone reading this right now comes down to the differences present between the older Lenovo Chromebook Duet and the newer Duet 3. They look a lot alike and come with many of the same features, but don't be fooled by the lower price of that older model. Instead, let me show you why in every way, you should really consider an upgrade to the newer Duet 3...even if it costs a bit more.

I bought the original Lenovo Duet when I was studying beauty therapy.
While I already had a powerful desktop pc at home, I wanted something small and portable that I could take with me to class. I needed something small and light enough to fit in my handbag, had a camera so I could quickly document my work, and could easily piggyback my phone to get online when out and about, and a battery that lasted all day.
Now I put it in my handbag for job interviews for purposes of resume and/or portfolio.
I did consider upgrading to one of the newer models, but they are bigger and heavier, which is a deal breaker for me, again if I need more grunt, I got the desktop pc

I have the Duet 5, and wish I'd bought a Duet 3 instead: lighter, more compact, as powerful... When I move around, I always grab my P11 which is the same size than the Duet 3, rather than the Duet 5.
But... Getting my hands on a Duet 3 is really tricky here in France. I can't find it anywhere. Lenovo's website lists is as 'coming soon', and that's it.
I would like to have the full spec version with more storage and maybe a SIM tray.

I wish you would have made this video comparing all three Duets. I think there's a lot to be said for the Duet 5, meaning more screen real estate and larger keyboard. While the purchase of the more recent USI Stylus is a consideration for additional cost to add on to the 5, I think it would have been great to spend more time on a video placing all three of these devices side by side with the pros and cons for each also compared. You might have already done this, but my quick scrolling through some of your past videos didn't show it.

Duet 5 is a Chromebook with secondary function as a tablet. The Duet 3 is the reverse, it's secondary function is being a portable laptop. Duet 5 has OLED screen which is better than the LCD screen on the Duet 3. Both have the same Snapdragon 7c gen2 processors. Duet 5 battery lasts longer. Other slight differences are that the Duet 3 does not support USI 1, it's required the new USI 2 stylus. It also has newer version of the USB C ports that support faster data transfer speed vs the Duet 5.

I got a surface go, because I needed a full desktop browser, even it is better device it is hard to use it as tablet because of the weight. I got the old duet when the prices got down and it is just enough. Lightweight and easy to carry around. The big limitation is when connecting an external display. But other than that it is still a good device. I feel Like using it for a couple of years is still a good choice, 8GB of ram would make the new ones a solid better choice.

I have the 10-in. If I get a new one it would be the 13.3 in OLED one which has the 8 GB of RAM. That way they're at least different form factors and potentially hit different use cases.
Although I already have a tab S7 so it would probably be a little redundant.

    • @cobaltblue5523
      @cobaltblue5523 Год назад

Exactly Lenovo duet 5 is far better at every way possible and it's better value for dollar it goes on sale with ton and it's sometimes just cheaper than the Lenovo do at three which makes no sense so yes if I were you you already have a tab at 7:00 so that's good for another like what year or two I would wait definitely these are these are not bad these tablets but hands down I'd recommend the Lenovo duet 5 simply because it has doubled the ram the three Lenovo do at 3 tops out at 4 GB of RAM and that's we're talking about a Chromebook Chrome uses a ton of RAM Chrome browser does so you should definitely get more RAM and then and you know the the five has quad speakers I think it has Dolby Atlas don't quote me on that It has an OLED screen so it's richer darker blacks all that two USB type-c I think they both have two I'm not certain and the bigger keyboard like if you're going to you know actually type like do some papers the bigger keyboard would just be much better If you're just using it the type like maybe a small email or like a comment in the comment section the the 11 in is okay but it's still cramped and it's not even 11 in it's 10.8 10.89 or something so it still doesn't even hit that 11-in mark on top of that I don't know not never mind I won't say it I know someone said the speakers got worse than the 11 I'm not certain on that though I'll actually leave that out but yeah the tab at 7:00 incredible device The tab S7 sorry I'm using speech to text and if you have your own keyboard then boom yeah that's redundant

I live in Canada, so finding the new Duet 3 in this country, or the Duet 5 with 8 GB of RAM, is a bit of a challenge. I bought the original Duet two years ago and now I only keep the tablet on my desk and use it mostly to watch simple videos or use RUclips Music to change the tunes on my smart speaker. The cramped keyboard and thick back plate are on the far end of my desk and I seldom use them together.

It's a choice between buying an original or a Duet 5 locally or importing a Duet 3 and paying a fortune for shipping (and Best Buy/Walmart etc don't ship here so it's either buying from someone who does or using a freight forwarder).

The duet 5 I have just pushed it to the limit. the original duet seemed magical compared to a surface go (original) for battery life etc. as well as completely usable. Price is a huge factor but so is use case and keyboard. I bought the Lenovo Chromebook 3 for $100 recently. It works perfectly for everything I want it to do which mainly boils down to writing and editing documents with a long battery life while being portable. For me, it didn't come down to the screen or speakers since I only use it for on the go text editing so the battery life and keyboard mattered a lot more and most bluetooth tablet keyboards such for long writing sessions. I could have bought a more expensive chromebook but the Lenovo one had the better keyboard so that's the one I went with. In my case then the first duet would make more sense since I have my more powerful laptop to do everything else on but if it was my only device then the duet 3 would be better
Edit: I have small hands so large keyboards aren't comfortable to use

I am still not sold on Chrome Tablets. They are so far behind Android tablets that it seems to be an option no one should bother with. I still find Android apps on ChromeOS a painful experience, and turn that off for most of my Chromebook work.
I suppose they have to exist, in the hope that they improve. However, with Google claiming there will never be another Pixelbook and that they are now focusing on tablets, then I would recommend a good Android tablet, and there are some great ones out there in Europe; OPPO, Huawei, Xiaomi, to name a few. I suspect that with Chrome devices sales in freefall, a combo of over saturation and consumers upgrading to other OS'es, so going forward Android, iOS or even the dreaded Window's Tablet will be better choices.

    • @dave_w8476
      @dave_w8476 Год назад

The demise of the pixelbook flags up a warning that all is not well in ChromeOS land. The writing is on the wall so there will be no further purchases from me. A quality android tablet, whilst desirable, seem overpriced in the UK and so I will be looking towards an ipad and then an iphone, where the frequency and longevity of security updates is exemplary.

I'm noticing the battery isn't lasting as long and considering having it replaced (rechargable batteries have a shelf life of about 2 years, right?) The biggest thing Im hoping for is the keyboard magnetizing to the unit to protect the screen from scratches when I put it in my bag as I also use it for my business. I've only had lenovo tablets for the past several years, starting with the Yoga Book and still have one that works, but can't upgrade past Android 7, which is why I got the OG Duet in the first place.

I picked up the original Duet during the half-price sale. Can't say I regret it (yet) for how I've used it, but would still like to get a more powerful Chromebook down the road (like the Dragonfly if it wasn't so damn expensive).

Hi im looking for chromebook for digital artists, detachable is must have, + it has to have Windows 11pro + being capable of running photoshop, and other digital artists tools. Cheaper the better, its just for the time when my main PC is rendering 3D. So i wont be waisting time meanwhile

I bought new one in the UK for £399. I loved most of the hardware, looked great and keyboard was good. The speakers were absolutely awful.... Very bad. The performance heavily lacked and just constant bugs throughout. Spotify was unusable with crashing and RUclips consistently froze. The screen was also so big in the hands it wasn't a good amount of use for anything but Netflix etc. I have a 2 year older laptop that is nothing special and it hands down wipes the floor for with the duet. I wouldn't recommend it at all myself. Save your money and buy a better Chromebook 👍

I have been a regular viewer of your content and I do subscribe to idea that Chromebook are 👍 however I did purchase my Lenovo duet Chromebook the first version (early adopter) and it's been almost an year now that the keyboard is not getting recognised when connected to the Chromebook, such reports are also shared on Lenovo forums but the answers are not working. Can you please look into the same with Lenovo and post an update here in comments or via a video, as you are truly a voice for Chromebook in this universe hoping this leads to fruition of good results.
    Thanks,
    Love from India

Had the original Duet - until it fell down with a case on and the screen broke, revealing why its so cheap.
If the screen breaks you'll hurt yourself like madness and its in no form protected like guerilla glass or anything else like it.
Tried to replace the screen with spare part from AliExpress - screen cracked since its so fragile and cant stand any form of slight bending (by that I mean not even 1%).
And obvisilously you have to snap the new screen back in ...
Especially bad since the Tablet was used by the kids - the glass was really really sharp and cut me trought the gloves I wore when doing the replacement.
Such things should be forbidden ... never be released.
Seriously they could've used cheap plastic for all I care but this is beyond bad.

Okay unless you want a I think it was 10.8 in so it's not a full 11 but unless you want that that sort of a screen size I'd recommend getting the Lenovo duet 5 it does have a big screen I understand that but most cases you don't If you do that you know traveling with a bigger screen I forgot it was like 13.5 or 14 in but it's bigger If you don't mind traveling with a bigger one then I'd recommend the smaller one but usually people just use their laptops and Chromebooks at home If you're one of those weirdos who take it to the cafe well okay great but still the Lenovo do it five base storage is 128 base ram is 8 gram and it has a much larger OLED screen quad speakers it has two USB type-c it has a much bigger keyboard so it's easier to type on and what else oh yes the most important thing is usually this thing dips in price a lot Don't ever buy MSRP don't ever buy the full price that's what I mean because I I seen this thing dip all the way to what was it three 3:50 ish around there and for what for what you get it's incredible so keep in mind I think it went down to 329 I'm not sure but it goes down a lot and it goes down pretty low for what it offers oh and it's a snapdragon 7C Gen 2 so just the same as the regular new Lenovo do at 3 so the Lenovo do that three has no more than 4 GB of RAM and this is Chrome we're talking about Chrome browser Chromebook so the more RAM the better future proof it make it last longer all that cool stuff and it has the same processor Snapdragon 7C Gen 2 it has a 10.8 inch screen this is I believe LCD which is not bad it does have a higher resolution I believe and what was it I believe there's the 64 and the 128 GB storage I think the 64 is the 379 price tag I'm not sure and I have to look out of that that again but anyways smaller screen quad speakers and then it only supports USI 2.0 which there's not that many of so any previous USI styluses don't work with it. And all the Lenovo duets are non expandable storage so get the higher storage always recommend and then that thing goes on sale for 329 I'm sure it'll go down to 299 but still like for the the price difference the Lenovo do it three just doesn't make any sense because the Lenovo do at 5 is just far superior far more bang for your buck but it again if you do prefer a smaller screen then great but to be honest with you I would much rather recommend a tab S7 from Samsung or a tab S8 cuz if you're looking for a good reliable tablet the tablet 7 and the tavis 8 both have decks so it's pretty it's pretty flexible it's not a full chrome browser so that's the the caveat but it has a much faster processor and it comes with a stylus You do have to buy the keyboard separately it will be more expensive the tab has seven I get you can get a refurbished one for around the same price around $300 to 400 bucks or you know a newer table S8 which are the sales is was Christmas it's almost November for the Black Friday tab has eight I'm sure they'll do some bundles so if you really need a 11-in tablet I much prefer to recommend the tab S8 or the tab S7 and then if you prefer you know like Apple get the iPad depending on your budget right I would actually wait for the iPad 10 the base one if you want that budget or I would recommend the iPad Air but the way it's made once you hit your price point If you have the money I'd actually much rather recommend the iPad pro the base model that the newest model it's just better value You could always get the air but seeing how it's all priced out with Apple The air is again in awkward place kind of like the Lenovo duet 3 is it's kind of just too expensive for what it gives you for just a little bit more money you you should get the pro hands down so for example the Apple what iPad Air the base model I think it was at 5:30 no I'm sorry it was a was it 6:30 it's up there and that's only 64 storage that's it and if you download any games or you know store files on there or photos whatever right then it's going to fill up super quick so then they only option is to get the 256 model which is another what 150 or 200 bucks which puts it puts it right below the iPad pro so it's 50 bucks less than iPad pro so why not just get the iPad pro and get much better features I don't know it's a it's a bunch of crazy crap If you read this far I'm glad I could help if I if I have and I love tablets I just want to pass on that info

@Alex From Boston Yep. I got the HP X2 11 Chromebook which has a stable unibody aluminum build, is super fast, and has had no problems, and of course... This RUclipsr totally trashed it. He hated it. Could it be because HP isn't sponsoring him. I never trust these RUclipsrs anymore. They're all biased based on who they're getting a check from. Unbox Therapy is the worst.
