  • "Not having any substance behind the rhetoric. These are exactly the attacks you see on Keir Starmer now levelled on Tony Blair.”
Matt Chorley says he “never appreciated” how much Blair was accused of being “all over the place” in the run up to the 1997 election, in conversation with Times columnist Patrick Maguire.

Agree that Major gave as good as he got from Blair but Sunak is so bad at politics, Starmer runs rings round him everytime.
Most people can see Sunak isn’t a leader, he’s weak, he follows his party not leads, stark contrast to Starmer.

I think this will be none more blatant at election time televised debates.
Regardless of criticism of Starmer as policies, U-turns, etc, I think he's got the competence to lead better.
It may very well be more of a vote against the tories than for Labour, but hopefully they can prove themselves beyond one term, and prove credibility.
Regardless of those saying the current Labour is similar to the Conservatives. Nothing can be worse than the current government record of 14 years

Tony Blair was dominating at that time tbf, it was his charisma, and way of speaking, as much as arguments. But the Tory gov's incompetance at that time is echoed today. Not sure about the attempt to rehabilitate Major here.

I'm not a "traditional" labour voter, but I have to disagree with the two replies here.
I have never seen a political party cling to power & shred democracy like the Conservatives since 2010.
5 PM' in 14 years, leadership contest when they loose favour instead of a General Election
Local services & authority funding stripped to the bone
Removal of the fixed term Parliament Act
NHS & Police Funding in real terms cut
      Economic stagnation
      EU
      Partygate
Illegal suspension of Parliament to push through legislation
      Liz Truss
      Rwanda
      NHS Patient Satisfaction
      Schools literally crumbling/falling apart
I cannot think of a single metric that is better now than before the Tories came to power.
To name just a handful & that's not even getting into the detail.
Everything has gone backwards, I genuinely feel embarrassed by our Government.
I believe that there is a better alternative, I might not agree with all of Labour policies/visions, but I believe they are capable of being far more responsible & respectable than the Tories.
