Jay, a couple of things:
1. Your videos are great because you communicate well. Unlike other channels, I get the idea you're talking to *me*, not to yourself, a camera, or nobody.
2. Regarding tyrranids in general and this model specifically, does the idea that GW just made a gun that looks like an arm offend you? it's one of the laziest, least imaginative sculpting decisions ever, IMO.
3. Regarding the gargoyles being hard to move without snagging other models... (a common problem with genestealers too...) can you opine on the difference between a sculpture and a "gaming piece" and if the difference matters to you? For example, this gargoyle is a great sculpture but not a great gaming piece. Conversely, a chess pawn is a terrible sculpt (looks nothing like a soldier) but a great gaming piece.
please acknowledge the admech in any way, maybe paint some or kitbash them
Instructions unclear, I gave my rod a rubbing with fine sandpaper and I'm now at the ER.
If you paint it the white stuff will go away.
I took your advice and raided my cat's litter box for some basing material, and grabbed some pellets. But luckily for me, there were some cork pieces in there as well!
Found the Death Guard player!
Ewwww
My brother under the emperor that’s not cork
Get them from the bag you sicko
Brother, that isn’t cork
since they are flying creatures anyway. maybe make the metal pin longer in some of the minis so they won't interfere with each other?
That work. But I believe they're is a height restrict for minis! So they can remain a unit with other members of the team during play!
@@Tarzan2319 Doesnt that apply to the bases? Since that's how coherency is determined
@@mmjsfca yeah, you're right!! I was mistaken thank you
Model height does play a part in the game though.
Really digging these new Monday videos. There was a while there where Monday's video was feeling like Models and Memories. But now it's like a mini Wednesday! Keep up the good work!
It's Tuesday though timmy
"I gave my rod a robbin' with some fine grit sandpaper[...]" average Emperor's Children.
Agreed that the curved flying stands, also on SoB Seraphim are dreadful
Sob are the best case scenario even they suck ass for them
As a sisters player, i agree that building seraphim is miserable
As someone who has 70+ Tau drones, I despise the flight stands. I used a 32mm base and made concrete walls with rebar sticking out and just drilled into the drone and glued metal wire into it. Paint it like the rebar and now you have a "floating" drone.
Why do they give us so many...
Using kitty litter to bulk out your milliput because it's cheaper is one of the same reasons they put gravel and sand (coarse and fine aggregate) in concrete because they're cheaper than cement.
I did metal rods for my gargoyles as well but I used different heights . It adds a lot of movement , mimicking a wave of flight. It took a while doing all 30 different angles but a great improvement!
i love the recurring jokes like the sander holder downer and kitty litter pinch. it’s like a reward for having watched you videos for years. love it
no, its a bad joke and not funny - deranged and dangerous
Just a quick tip - brass rods can be a tad expensive but wire coat hangers are cheap and the metal can be surprisingly sturdy
Was thinking the same. Steel rod can be much thinner and will be just as strong. Just need good cutters.
Not sure if anyone else mentioned but if you drill the hole slightly larger where you insert the stand, and go ahead and snap off that little piece at the top, you can insert the stand at a wider point and I highly doubt it will snap beyond that. I have had great results with this.
As a kid my dad bought me a Revell Magic Flight Tomcat. Basically a magnetised fighter jet hovering on a huge a** magnet. I wonder if you can do the same with such a small Mini.
what i want is Night Gaunts.
they are basically Melee Gargoyles, so Hormagaunts with wings :D
they would fit the new Swarm detachment really well. :D
Finally a RUclips painter who has figured out that wood glue (particularly Wood Glue Max from Elmers if you can still find it) is massivley superior to PVA/white glue in almost every respect.
I use Elmer’s school glue
Yep, the only flight stands from GW I’ve used are the ones with suppressors and inceptors. Can confirm it’s the absolute worst and I never want to do one again (one unit of 3 of each was enough)
I always go with a piece of brass rod painted matte black. Matte black flying stands are less visible than "clear" plastic
Please stop suggesting people use their used cat litter, the game stores have enough mystery stink without that added into the mix
Good ol’ Jay, working on bases, gotta love it.
The Inceptors stands are infuriating. I jumped back into this hobby after playing 2nd edition 15? years ago. I went with the Dark Angels Combat Patrol to jump back in, and they almost caused me to quit. I was so mad at how flimsy and near impossible they are. I finally had to drill a hold and use JB weld on them.
i love the bubble stands, used to base the bottoms with pva glue and sand
+1 swoop stand take
Should have just went all in and paint veins on his big strong rod
I love that, " in a pinch raid my cats box"!!!😅😅😅
I like the use of brass rod for the flight stand! Secure, strong, and sassy!! Thanks gents!! Fantastic as always!!!
as a tau player dude i feel this more than you can know, every single drone is CONSTANTLY breaking, constantly coming loose, looks stupid and is stupid
Jay and the Black Templars have one thing in common and that is their eternal crusade against their respective enemies, be it xenos or clear flying stands.
Oh man, I hate these things too.
I like to add smoke, poles, ruins etc to elevate models instead of these dumb things
The thing is... all the work and it still is a flying stand. Either you don't bother hiding it, because you just can't. Or you make a different base. This looks just as bad, but with plants.
Interesting, I've been gluing the clear stand+base to a GW base (so I can put a magnet in the base, another problem the clears present) and then just glue basing materials to that so it hides the glue on the clear base
My Inceptors wait for the day I touch them to snap clean off their flight stands, and that day I will give a hugely exasperated sigh of disappointment. I think they will be replaced with bits of sprue that I cut into the shape of one of those WW2 tank hedgehog spikes
Having the flight stand color mimic the base to hide it was quite neat!
As a tau player, all the drones are on those clear rods.... i have so many broken rods.....
I'm thinking about a 3D printed one with Rotation Magnets. But Inceptors' Bases are still freaking... !
I think you can try to use some magnets for magnetic levitation next time. So, as momma said, forget about the thick rods
Building a 1000 point nids army made of just the winged units, on my Gargoyles, I'm just replacing the clear base with normal 32mm base and some ruins bases can't really say I thought of a good alternative for clear rods
I'd love to see how you do a Heldrake, they're my favourite model of all time and even though I got one ages ago I always hated the silly stand
I use "Ace Hardware" model train rods(they size perfect and are basically the same thing). After purchasing the rods I put a washer in a base before drilling a hole and gluing the wire to both the base and model with loctite super glue.👍
I did not know that you didn't have to have the rod painted with super glue to prime it and could just sand it(I had a problem with paint wiping off of my metal rod).
Actually, the new grimnyr's e-cogs also use flight stands. But I personally like them
White with the base overspill looks great! Nice job.
Heh heh self edging 3:53
0:45 That lightsaber hilt is upside down, also from experience lego quality control is good at preventing air bubbles.
I put together a Grimnyr lately and I have no idea how to even prime, let alone mount, the little helper robots. Would appreciate a video on a solution to the swoop stand.
I like the old ones, although I generally anchor them to a proper base instead of the clear disk.
Yup Never used those plastic stands. Always swapped them out for Brass rods and ive never had trouble with them.
Replacing flying stand pegs with metal is the reason we have no metal coat hangers in my house😂.
I just made my own for 20 gargoyles. So much happier. Look forward to seeing your way of handing.
The only flight stands that I do like is from X-Wing miniatures. The epic ship flight stands. Big, strong, and sturdy.
Those were legit. Shame that Asmodee gave that game to AMG to turn into a dumpster fire
The Rev Seekers have those things too...I've just replaced with brass rods too
I just replace them with a 32mm round base and 2mm or 3mm wire, no problem so far as long you can drill a hole and use superglue.
Am i the only one who thinks clear and glossy is better than solid black or grey ??
Think so.. it's the shine that's really the bothersome aspect.
Try to take some of the spare ones and matte them up using a sanding sponge from a hardware store. You'll be amazed at how much more they disappear from view. Give it a shot, seriously, then let me know what you thought of it 👍
that sounds sick, will try that
@@d-emprahexpects
X-Wing Miniatures Game has square clear stands with the ability to slide a card into the base for in-game info. IMO these bases are much better then the SW smaller clear bases.
Some very good points. GW should be using White Dwarf to release new detachments. Also, Necromunda is amazing! So much you can do with it.
You could disguise the metal rods as trees maybe
I also hate the clear bases so I always replace them with normal 32mm bases so they match the rest of my army and use clear rod set in rocks.
GW flying stands are better than having everyone hang onto a tactical rock by their toe, like the new jump intercessors
kitty litter one that just gross man
My first venture into 40k was 8th editions starter box, with the inceptors. Yeah that wasn’t newbie friendly lol.
They are still broken.
Where do you get your cork bark from? I’ve tried everywhere.
Space hulk episode 2!! Thanks gents!! Fantastic as always!!!
The inceptor stands certainly make them LOOK cool, but, they would also look cool if you just like threw them in the air! Those poor chaps are always falling off.
Try purchasing the 2nd edition all metal Space Marine Landspeeder and trying to make it perch on one of those...
you can use cotton to hide the rod
'You can raid your cat's litter box'
I threw up a little, thanks Jay
Pteraxii are impossible to stand next to each other
I reckon go the other way. Replace the rods with bobble head springs.
what is the blue you use for the carapace?
I'd be painting that stand matte black.
Thanks for this video ! Was Wunderfind your opinion on avoiding them. I like black metal rods mostly.
We need new Gargoyles models without clear flying stands...
Any good ideas on fixing the swoop stand???
So.. if you have any flying stands to spare, mind sending them a T'au player's way? I got plenty of drones who need a base to spare lol
2mm is a THICK rod, why not going with extra thin piano rods ?
My cat is going to be so pissed for invading his space 😅
I played my first 40K/any miniature game yesterday! I have the tyranid battle box and I want to add gargoyles to my team so this makes me jealous!!!!
I just 3d print normal bases with a hole and keep the upper part
I like the idea of gargoyles grabbing each other like barrel of monkeys.
Barrel of Gargoyles 🤣
The terrain has always looked so good on your patreon. I haven’t delved into the world of 3D printing yet. But can anyone recommend 3D printers that could do terrain? The Elgoo mars and photon mono have looked good, not sure they’d be big enough though
For Resin, go for a Saturn 2. That little bit of money gets you a whole lot of build plate volume which helps a TON.
@@khanayudash2475 thank you 🙏
Never forget the tactical rock.
I really hope the user cat litter thing was a joke.
Wtf ? How can you not like sliced bread ? Thats just inhuman 🤔.
Where does one obtain these brass rods affordably? I could use some for my RPG models.
They kinda look like the Rathalos from Monster Hunter and thats a compliment
As someone with exactly one unit of tomb blades.......I agree.
Please don't use used kitty litter. That's yucky, ducky.
Hi Eons I am a great fan of your work and need some help, I appreciate you are busy guy but will ask anyway. I have recently purchased Kill Team starter set for my son, I am taking his gift to the Philippines in January but I need to get him some paints and tools, there is very limited availability so I will be travelling from the UK, I have looked at the 40k paint set with tools but the colours available do not seem suitable, when I was a gamer there was a dedicated Ork and Eldar paint set.. showing my veteran status as I stopped playing after 3rd edition.. If you have time I would appreciate some pointers as to what paints to get in addition to the set. Best wishes for Christmas and 2024. Barry Hunter
In Rod we trust.
Im doing a book report on the 40k novel "Horous Rising" any tips
do you have any solution / tipps for my " Gothic " models ?
Socket over top of them with brass tube. So glue some brass tube of big enough internal diameter so it fits over the flying stand to the bottom of the "I can't believe it's not a GW BFG model", paint it black, and just socket over top of the flying base.
Too bad the thumbnail showed exactly what you were going to do. Otherwise id have guessed the outrider kit to be the worst GW has put out
Can you please try bolt action. I have been commenting on so many of your videos, and it’s a really fun war game. Also, I subscribed.
7:59 his what
Please do your desolation conversion
I was gonna say the Drop Pod is the worst miniature to build
Sliced bread is bad?
See, this here is the reason I support stupid tactical rocks, anything but those flight stands!
I like the cloud exhaust ones
IMO admech birdbois have the worst base overhang
Rod was said many times in this video
Woo Hivefleet Behemoth Represent!
