I have a 6309 7040. It was my Pop's. He got it new, I think in 1985. He didn't like the strap and tossed it. It just became mine lately. It had a weird strap on it that was too narrow. So, I looked for a makers mark. He had put a damn cheep Casio strap on it. I tossed that strap. I don't like the rubber straps either, so I purchased a black mate leather, alligator, water resistant strap. It looks really good, Thanks for the video my Timely Brother 👍 ⌚
Im actually on a smaller budget, so I search the good deals. I lucked out on my 6309-7040. Got it for $70. It is running well had it run through, and for almost $150 I have what now is fully restored watch my local repair shop says "is worth $500 or better" Im ok with it being a $150 watch. I as much in it as I do my invicta, and it is just a fun watch to wear. Im glad I got it for the price I did. Im pretty sure Id never own one if I had to spend $500 for it.
Some people didn't like the style of Seiko turtle watches, not me, I find that it was a sport looking watch with excellent accurate, and the price is very affordable as well, a perfect jewelry for men.
The 6309/SRP777 always looked space age modern to me. The silver cushion case resembles something out of a 1950s Sci Fi movie. The design really is timeless.
My understanding is the first digit of the unique serial on the watch refers to the year it was made. Yours if I'm seeing correctly is a zero so that would make it 1980. The second digit I have been told refers to the month of manufacture. Hope this helps.
i have the same one brought it in manila for 120 Australian dollars in 1985 was going to sell it but found out its so popular i will get it repaired when i travel back to the Philippines as repairs costs are crazy in Australia .
Hey Ryan! I think some of the models will see an increase but I think it depends on the reference the diver models and some of the more iconic models will for sure. Vintage Grand Seiko is moving in pricing a lot and i have seen more dealers offering vintage grand Seiko then ever before!
Cam, do you sometimes think the 6309 seiko looks better in appearance than Rolex sub or no...I have both and at times the sandwich style case or the beefier appearance looks better...thanks
yes, you are correct! was discussing it as Seiko is leveraging a more classic interpretation of the "turtle" style of case and looking to its roots on the modern reissues! :)
Cam, please advise what exact watchband you got from Miltat...looked @ their assortment of Jubilee but did not see the exact band specified for a 6309. Thanks, Bill
Hey Cam, Thanks again for link ref Seiko jubilee....hit link and it stated sold out. Do you know if miltat and the seiko jubilee from Uncle Seiko are the same ....yours looked really perfect on 6309......also, what's your opinion on the 6309 president @ uncle seiko. It looks nice imo, but doesnt look like it tapers @ all. Thanks, Bill
@@williamstalvey6920 Tyler actually has an @uncleseiko for his vintage Pouge and the build of teh bracelet is quite nice, I actually like the look of the president style bracelet on the 6309 and have seen a couple over the years! just looked at the bracelets via uncle Seiko and MilTat and they look like the could be the same actually!
I own three of them. Nothing but classic and I still get compliments. Thank you for giving Seiko some love.
This is one of the best videos I've seen on the Seiko Turtle! I'm loving the "what's on my wrist series". Keep them coming!
Thanks,Ben! it's one of my favorite references and a must have in any collection in my opinion!
Glad you’re giving Seiko some props!
This is one of my favorite watches in my personal collection!

Hey there. Love what you do. With Seiko prices creeping higher, do you think these or other vintage Seiko models will see a price hike as well?

I like them both differently, I prefer my Seiko 6309-7040 on a bracelet whereas I prefer subs on natos or leather straps!
@@craftandtailored yes, I agree....Check out Graham Fowlers milsubs and Tudor mn....you may have already seen his collection.
@@williamstalvey6920 i have seen it for sure and it super awesome!!
It wasn't a re-release of the Turtle but of the Captain Willard !
