  • This is a very short overview of molecular testing basics. It covers the main types of molecular tests pathologists use in practice, when we use them, and why we use them. The lecture was aimed at dermatologists, but it is applicable to medical students, junior pathology residents, or non-pathologists who want to better understand how and why we use certain types of molecular tests. This video was originally presented at the 2022 Atlantic Derm virtual meeting.

Thank you so much Dr. Gardner. This is extremely helpful in demystifying what I once considered a black box in genetic testing. Do you have any recommendations (books or online resources) for learning more molecular & clinical lab pathology? I've noticed that anatomic pathology resources are far more common, at least at my institution. Thanks!

I’ve heard there are other resources but I don’t have much experience using them. I asked on Twitter once but only got a few replies.

@@JMGardnerMD Thanks for taking the time to ask. I'll make sure to tour the internet and report back if anything seems promising.

If ngs becomes cost effective would it replace all other molecular test .
