Ivy will choke the growth on any tree. It is always best to cut the ivy at the base of the tree and pull the ivy out. You will have to keep the ivy out of your trees or bushes or the ivy will take over. I hope this helps.
Remove ivy from apple tree completely. It is stealing nutrients and will overwhelm the tree eventually. Also, I think you must leave some horizontal branches on the apple tree to give it better odds at fruiting. Your garden is so lovely! Thanks for taking us along.
I love your garden. So many interesting bits and pieces. I always think that once you make the first move after winter to get out into the garden, you get the fever again to do more.
I love seeing the signs of spring in the middle of winter, it gives us hope! Looking forward to seeing your garden blossom! Oh and the winter wreath looks so thoughtful on the door.
Your garden is full of excitement for this coming year. You work so hard, so just 10 mins here and there is an excellent plan. Im very excited to see what you do this year and watch things grow in your garden. Its lovely to see you so happy outside. The Garden gives the brain time to rest and it also heals the soul. The look on your face says it all. I cant wait to be back outside in my space pottering about too. Enjoy your magical space lovely lady x
I Love every video but you remind me of myself of the excitement of the Garden It's my peaceful place A place of creation and new hope Hope Rowan is feeling better xoxoxo
😊😊hooray, spring bulbs showing.I bought some yellow tulips to lift the house.Your coat is so cheerful.Just what we need. The pink lipstick looks great.Spring like with the yellow coat
You will have to build Maple a nice platform she can climb onto so she can still be Queen of her castle 😊 I would cut your hellibores old leaves back to the ground which will allow the new flowers to come through properly and stop any diseases passing onto the new leaves.
So lovely that we can all get out in the garden in England again! There are snowdrops out, and daffodils buds just about to open, here in west Devon. It is just such a treat when the clouds go, and we get to see a bit of sun, and blue skies for a change! It makes us more thankful for our beautiful world I feel. Blessings from Jilly & Madge. xxx
I , too, am envious of you working in your garden already. It was a low of 6F here in Pennsylvania where I live😮😮. "Bitterly cold " we call it ! Enjoy your mild temps.! Kathy from Pennsylvania USA ❤❤😊😊
The Hellebore outer/old leaves need to be cut off now to make room for the flowers and new leaf. It will also prevent disease and let the air get into the middle.
We should name your Robin Roberttó! Or, Roberttá! Time shall tell! Youave a lovely space there for growing! I'm in Upstate South Carolina, and we got snow today! The gulf states got a Blizzard, for goodness sakes! LOL! We had such heat this summer that it was difficult to keep anything alive. Then, I had a tree on my house in October from Hurricane Helene! We never know what to expect here, so we kinda do what you are doing year around. It'll probably be in the 80s next week! I look forward to watching your garden grow!
Bravo! You really did accomplish a lot in your garden in a short time! I’m the same way, I do around 30 minutes each day, tidying my garden to keeping it looking nice and welcoming. I recently allocated an area for all my empty flower pots and it really opened up the garden space and made it less cluttered looking. The next thing I’m looking forward to on my list is repainting my front door. I do this every year and it makes such a huge difference. I also repaint all my metal furniture in a beautiful moss green paint that looks perfect with all the plants. Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing your results 💚
Likely, that ivy has very large roots traveling up from the base? Best to get some help here, so I'd start recruiting! Take a small hand held hatchet (little axe over there?) to the very bottom at the roots starting up the three. Or, set your loppers right to the tree and cut. You may also make several cuts up, bc the roots may have really taken hold. A hatchet helps with slipping under the root and chopping straight upwards between the root and bark to separate from the tree. That will stop the growth right then. Work on pulling the ivy on the ground at the base away, so it will not start back. Also, that will clear a patch around the tree where you will not trip. That hatchet helps here, too ... I just chop straight down into the ground to get segments of the mature ivy that I can handle. With the lopper, I do the same. May need blade sharpening after many many times of doing such work, but those tool will survive just fine to handle this job. Now that you can get to the tree, start pulling, cut tangles, and pull some more! Your tree will be happier and healthier, and you'll get a workout!
Hi Louisa! I am envious. We were at 11 degrees F. in Maryland this morning, snow on the ground of course! I so love working in the garden, tinkering and pruning 30 minutes at a time. Enjoy! I enjoy your videos. Cheers
good morning dear Louisa.....................wonderful to see the signs of spring..........here in Kiel...........zero signs........................I look forward to can get in my little garden, but we have temperatures below zero..................thank you for sharing .................Greetings from Daggy,Kiel,Germany☘☘☘
It does the heart good doesn't it, Maple king of the castle! Robins are meant to be the soul of a departed loved one, dropping in to supervise your gardening!
I have still got my wreath up outside the front door the foliage still looks lovely i just cant throw it away, so just freshened it up a bit and its staying for a while longer. Ive been pottering outside as well but not for too long at a time.
Love the garden videos. Such a refreshing rewarding hobby, but hard work. Half an hour a day does wonders for it and for me!! BUT I am worried you are pruning apple tree wrongly. Not like roses which take a hard prune well, i think you must keep some fruiting spurs. Just take a third off at most. RhS website great for advice and you dont have to be a member. Last year i didnt get any apples i think because of a hard late frost that damaged blossom. Que sera sera. Xxx
I will look up apple tree pruning again, but this is how I've done it before and I know I researched it previously. Thankfully, nature is quite resilient.
Ohhh is it not too late to prune an apple tree...good to know. We will do ours this weekend. It looks like new growth is starting on ours...is that still ok? Are hellebores a bulb?
I would like to recommend a brilliant charity shop in wymondham called “the big c” it sell tones of fabric furniture cups ceramics buttons clothes vintage antique you name it they have it, also the furniture warehouse is brilliant in the next rd 3mins from each other I have bought antique mirrors pictures tables wardrobe jewellery the have garden statues it’s on 2 floors and is wonderful you would love it. We went today unfortunately there are road works . ❤
That ivy will not only choke out your tree by girdling it, it is stealing nutrients from the soil as well. I would pull up all that ivy and give that poor tree a good organic mulch to feed it.
Are you able to be kind and lend a suggestion instead of telling her what to do? The lady may love her hedge. It's her garden and its her that has to live there and rude comments can be upsetting . She's worked so hard this year as I've watched her efforts on Instagram. Let her take things slowly and do things at her own pace without being told what to do. I'd love to have a garden like hers. It's fantastic
I feel inspired to work in my garden after watching you. 10-15 minutes a day makes it seem not quite so overwhelming ❤
Great news! Have fun.
Ivy will choke the growth on any tree. It is always best to cut the ivy at the base of the tree and pull the ivy out. You will have to keep the ivy out of your trees or bushes or the ivy will take over. I hope this helps.
😊😊😊Thanks for the reminder
I came here to give the same advice. Ivy is never good on any tree.
Yes, that is my next job as I mentioned in the vlog
it's on my list
Remove ivy from apple tree completely. It is stealing nutrients and will overwhelm the tree eventually. Also, I think you must leave some horizontal branches on the apple tree to give it better odds at fruiting. Your garden is so lovely! Thanks for taking us along.
Yes, that is the intention. Tackling the ivy is my next job.
I love your garden. So many interesting bits and pieces. I always think that once you make the first move after winter to get out into the garden, you get the fever again to do more.
As Saturday was such a lovely day i went next door to trim my neighbours honeysuckle for him as he can't manage it, i love gardening.
I bet they were hugely grateful
I love seeing the signs of spring in the middle of winter, it gives us hope! Looking forward to seeing your garden blossom! Oh and the winter wreath looks so thoughtful on the door.
It certainly does!

Thank you so much for your kind words
Nicer to see you are able to work in the garden. We have -21.111 c and snow.
I feel very enthusiastic about my garden this year ☺️
Good work!
Thank you
I Love every video but you remind me of myself of the excitement of the Garden
It's my peaceful place
A place of creation and new hope
Hope Rowan is feeling better xoxoxo
The garden is my place to escape to.
😊😊hooray, spring bulbs showing.I bought some yellow tulips to lift the house.Your coat is so cheerful.Just what we need. The pink lipstick looks great.Spring like with the yellow coat
I have just bought my first British daffodils 😊
You will have to build Maple a nice platform she can climb onto so she can still be Queen of her castle 😊 I would cut your hellibores old leaves back to the ground which will allow the new flowers to come through properly and stop any diseases passing onto the new leaves.
A Maple viewing platform sounds like a very good idea
Thanks!
Thank you soooooop much 😘
Nothing better than being and working in a garden. I think your garden will be beautful this year. 😊
I'm hoping my garden will certainly take a big leap forward this year.
Ha you just inspired me - I was out front pumping up me tyres and while I waited my rose bush got a trim!
Your rose will thank me for it in the summer.
@elegantlyknackeredstyle It will 😇
😘

I love the southwest, especially at this time of year- you always have signs of spring about a month before the rest of the UK 😊
I , too, am envious of you working in your garden already. It was a low of 6F here in Pennsylvania where I live😮😮. "Bitterly cold " we call it ! Enjoy your mild temps.! Kathy from Pennsylvania USA ❤❤😊😊
I'm making the most of it whilst I can, trying to get ahead of the game.
I’m in Maryland and it’s bitterly cold here to, that what we called it back in England, I’ve been saying, this England cold 😀
And here in South Australia I’m spending hours in the garden watering to save my garden from the hot summer heat!
It always amazes me how we are all experiencing such different things.
That was an encouraging video, thanks Louise. Love your wreath. Good on you for keeping it up.
I felt my wreath was too nice to take down
Never ceases to amaze me how EARLY you get signs of spring there! 😍
I was surprised myself!
Love the chandelier, nice touch to the garden.
Thank you 😊
Thank you for sharing your garden video today. It's so encouraging to see signs of spring on the way. Take care.❤
It lifts the spirits when signs of spring start to appear
I hope Rowan is feeling better... Migraines are very painful.. Maple is happy on top of the world.
She has been suffering a bit lately.
The Hellebore outer/old leaves need to be cut off now to make room for the flowers and new leaf. It will also prevent disease and let the air get into the middle.
Thank you 😊 🙏

Gosh, you're garden is getting quite a weather battering. I'm always amazed how resilient plants can be.
Robin definitely deserves a name 😊
I love your Robins so much. Very different from ours.
They are really sweet and lovely company in the garden

That all sounds very productive answer satisfying
Any plans to trim/cleanup the hedge and do a little repair on the garden gate? All your hard work is paying off.❤
Of course it's on the to do list but so are lots of other things.
Yes - please leave the wreath up. It's so lovely.
A wreaths not just for Christmas 😊
@@elegantlyknackeredstyle Absolutely
And lights in the tree can be a welcome, not just for Christmas.
😊
They have now been taken down and packed away with all the Christmas decorations.
Well done Louisa! Yes get rid of the ivy and that seat is just crying out for some chalk paint too.❤
The ivy, yes but chalk paint is the last of my worries at the moment.
@@elegantlyknackeredstyle Probably just my love of the stuff!
😂

Yes, that is what I thought too. It has always cohabited with the apple tree but now's the time to set the tree free.
Enjoyed seeing your garden at this time of year. Gardens and nature are uplifting anytime we venture out!!
I agree!
I can't believe you already have things blooming in your garden!! It was only 20 degrees today where I live. Looks good.
I was surprised too but it is such a lovely thing to see.
Hi Louisa! I am envious. We were at 11 degrees F. in Maryland this morning, snow on the ground of course! I so love working in the garden, tinkering and pruning 30 minutes at a time. Enjoy! I enjoy your videos. Cheers
Hopefully you will be back in your garden soon.
I always leave my door decoration up til it goes past it's best..still looks good at the moment :-)
It's a good plan

Oh gosh, that's is cold. Hopefully, spring is just around the corner.
Loved this video. I can't wait to get outside.
Hopefully soon...
Your garden looks lovely. 😊🇨🇦
Thank you
So exciting to see life erupting in the garden Louisa. Maybe the ivy is the problem for the apple tree? Just a thought ? 💐💕
The ivy is my next garden task.
Enjoyed the vlog!
Thank you 😊
Thank you 😊
❤❤Love the hat
🤣🤣
It does the heart good doesn't it, Maple king of the castle! Robins are meant to be the soul of a departed loved one, dropping in to supervise your gardening!
I have heard that too about Robins. It's a lovely thought.
PS.you can cut the old helebore leaves off now which means you can see the flowers and make room for this years leaves which will appear quite soon. x
Thank you 😊 🙏
I have still got my wreath up outside the front door the foliage still looks lovely i just cant throw it away, so just freshened it up a bit and its staying for a while longer. Ive been pottering outside as well but not for too long at a time.
A wreath refresh is a great idea
I find little and often works for me in the garden. I'm still behind this year but I'll get there because I'm determined to do it 😂
That's the attitude 💪🏻
That's the attitude 💪🏻
And ivy off the tree trunk?
Of course. I think I mentioned in my vlog that it was my next task.
Do you know the ivy growing up your apple tree is killing it? It must all be removed. Good luck ❤
That's why I said i was going to tackle it next.

Also so lovely seeing you excited in your garden, it's infectious 😊
Cutting it now is the perfect time, even if new shoots are showing.
Aww, thank you. It felt so nice to be outside.

Why take the lights off the tree outside the entrance? They can just be “welcome” lights all year round. They look pretty.
Too late, they're down now

You need to cut the old leaves off the Helebore before the flowers bloom.
Thank you. I will do that this week. Hopefully it's not too late.
Poor apple tree will never grown or bare fruit until you kill the ivy. Love your garden cut your hedge is ruining the whole look of your cute cottage.
The ivy is my next job. The hedge is on the plan but needs proper care and attention. That's what this year is all about.
Are you able to be kind and lend a suggestion instead of telling her what to do? The lady may love her hedge. It's her garden and its her that has to live there and rude comments can be upsetting . Thank you. I can only do one job at a time
Good to know!
Roses?
@ yes!
I’d love to see a map of your gardens.
It's a corner plot, so wraps around the side of the house. I will show more throughout the year.
