    The recipe I learned was 1/3 each: beeswax, solid butter, and liquid oil - easy for me to remember 😉 and scale up or down. I usually use grapeseed or safflower oil to minimize the greasy feel. (Coconut oil dries me out). I have a friend who gives me beeswax from their hives, though I usually process it one more time to get all of the sediment out, especially for gifts. I like the giant chapstick holders, 2.5-3oz., TSA compliant; I've done body butter sticks, and for moms-to-be, belly butter sticks 🤰🏽🫃🏻- easy, quick, gift. 😊 PS: cornstarch can be used, but be careful if giving or selling because of allergies.

    Those bars are very cute, Im sure they are divine on the skin. I make a lotion bar that my coworkers love, We have to wash our hands a lot at work and gets very drying. My recipe is 1 part unrefined beeswax, add 1 part oils (coconut/avocado), and one part butters (cocoa and shea ) Its a solid bar in winter but I keep mine in the refrigerator in summer. I might try adding a little more beeswax for my summer bars. Sometimes I add a few drops of lavender or jasmine essential oil to individual bars as they are starting to solidify to retain maximum fragrance. I got some purple clay for soap making I think Ill try adding some to the lotion bars in place of arrowroot. I never thought of that until you mentioned it! Thanks for sharing! Ive been needing to make more bars and this is the inspiration I needed to get it done, thanks!

    What a great idea! I was thinking about a way to use my bees wax, but filling 20 lipbalm tubes was just too finicky for me. Lotion bars are perfect, and I will for sure also use them on my nose. :) I would use peppermint or eucalyptus essential oils. I understand that every EO has a different usage rate, but could you maybe just give me an estimate of how much EO you would suggest to use for this amount of product? Would you think that 15 drops are strong enough? The last time I tried EO in my soap it was a total fail - no scent at all. Your help is greatly appreciated! That's not how you double boil. Your container your melting in should not touch the bottom. Touching the bottom is almost like there is no water in there and it could scorch. Your melting container should be elevated above the bottom with water all around the container.

  • @d3k2p0
    @d3k2p0 Год назад

    I am not one of those people that corrects people on youtube...mostly because even when I think I am being polite, people think I am being rude.
    That being said, I have to ask about your double boiling. To double boil, the thing you are trying to melt should be melted by the hot water instead of being put on the heating element, hence the name. When you set something on the bottom of the pan, it is the same as putting it directly onto the heating element and therefore isn't actually double boiling. To truly double boil, your container shouldn't fit inside of the pan of water, it should rest on the lip of it. Are you aware of that or were you using the term to mean something else? Not trying to be rude, I just am not sure if this is a regional thing or not because katie on royalty soaps made the same mistake (you're both in the southern us is what I mean) when she was trying to double boil and well, you're not going to get the right results if the true objective is not having high direct heat do the melting. If scorching is a concern and reason for the double boiling, you'll burn it if you do it your way. If it is just a case of saving dishes, then it makes sense, but it isn't double boiling as I know it, hence asking if it is a term used different regionally.

      That's a very good point you bring up. Now that you mention it, I do realize that a true "double boiler" has the contents suspended over boiling water, so you are correct❣️ I've also seen folks set a washcloth in the bottom of the pan for the beaker to sit on, so it's not on the bottom of the pan, that might be another way to do it... I will say that the sourounding simmering water does melt the hard butters at a nice rate, and I've had good luck with it.

      It doesn’t really matter how you melt the oils, some people use the microwave, some people use a double boiler, some people use the method shown here and I just put a pot directly on the stovetop. As long as you don’t overheat, it’s fine but honestly, whatever you do in a video on RUclips is open to criticism. Sometimes you just can’t win.

      I'm sure for demonstration purposes this melting pot works perfectly...she's not making chocolate. Geez!
