Dude, watching this cover took me back. I remembered being a teenager, listening to Opeth and playing guitar. Nothing gave me more joy or felt as important as that, it was truly special. I've kept on playing guitar, joined a band and rehearse regularly but most of the times it feels like a chore. I like it but it doesn't move me in the same manner. While watching this, I saw and felt a glimpse of what I felt back then, a fleeting glimpse but still. I've been making a conscious effort to rediscover the fun and magic in playing and watching videos like this really helps. Thank you for that and hold on to that magical feeling. Life sometimes distracts us from these things and when you notice, they're gone and are harder to find, so don't lose sight of them :)
I subscribed to your channel when i saw your cover for "the moor"(probably my favorite from opeth),still the best opeth covers on youtube, good job!bravo from greece
I don't comment on videos often but I have to tell you this and your cover of The Moor are some of the best covers i've ever seen on youtube. Keep it up!
This is wonderful man. Doing mikaels vocal melodies with your guitar adds a weird awesome melancholic feel to it. You still nail the feel of these songs better than anyone else on RUclips. Next step is posting some of your own original material!!! If you can do justice to this stuff I’d love to hear some of your own stuff.
@2:38 that riff has always boggled my mind. I was convinced Mikael was on a different level when I learned to play that. How do you come up with that??
Man this is outstanding performance and mixing, your playing is flawless and you try to recreate every single detail almost to perfection dude, for real... Instant fan, greetings from Panama 🇵🇦
Jesus. Thanks for that. Masterfully played. I appreciate your attention to detail, not even you played the song, you did layers like the Akerfeldt voicings with the ebow and much more. Congrats man.
This is hands down the most solid cover of this song I've ever heard, but man! This cover really made me realize how much work the bass is doing because you can absolutely miss the low end here. Some of the intensity is lost without it, but it's also really nice to hear the guitar in more focus as a result. Big ol' give and take lmao
Best Opeth covers by far. Your videos helped me a lot! Would love to see songs like april ethereal, leper affinity, drapery falls, ghost of perdition and harlequin forest (all in regular E tuning if possible).
What is that device that you're holding at 3:00 that emits the blue light on the fretboard? I can see what it's doing, it's playing the note that you're holding, but I have no idea what this device is, how it works, or what it's called.
Subscribed bro, this was truly an excellent performance covering all the guitar tracks in this masterful Opeth piece. I'll have to check out your other covers too. I'm curious if you used tabs to learn this music? Got links?
This is so good, using these videos has helped me quite a bit in learning to play these songs. Thank you! I do have one question - the chord slide you do right before the Bm add9 chord (in the first part of the outro), what are you playing exactly? To me it looks like a tritone shape but it just doesn't sound right when I play that.
Not sure where you are getting the Bm but the first couple shapes are just octaves with the low E added on the slide into the first downbeat. G (octave) - D (octave) - slide into E (octave) with low E added. Hopefully that helps. Thanks for watching!
@@VignetteQ Trying that out, I think you're talking about the intro riff. Thanks to your video I've more or less got that down already :) I'm referring to the chord shape first played at 07:16 in the outro which goes into 7-9-11-7-7-7 (which I believe is a minor add9 chord, something Mikael uses all the time).
@@sarcalogosvermis Oh, my bad. It's just a fourth interval with the other strings muted, so x-7-7-x-x-x to x-9-9-x-x-x. Once the leads end and its just the rhythm guitars, I also let the open g and b string ring out a little bit just as a little added nuance (starting at 8:03) just because I think it sounds cool, but I don't think they do that on the original. Also the B add9 in question is just the 9th shape on the low three strings, there's no bar on the high strings to make it minor.
Hey Jack. Did you learn these tracks by ear or did you refer to a tab? Just curious as I play some of these riffs differently and I feel like your method is the accurate way. Just wanna know if I can find an existing tab or if I should just figure out how you're playing the riffs based on this cover.
I learn all the parts for all my covers by ear + some assistance watching live videos when I feel they're still playing it correctly live. Never used a tab for anything Opeth, and I'd very much doubt the accuracy of any existing ones but that's my prerogative.

nice to see a young person in this day and age appreciating Opeth, love the cover
I love how you included the melodies from the clean vocal portions
Holy shit man, This is my favorite Opeth song, and you spanked that song's ass! Awesome job!

I love this Green guitar
Dude you literally had me bawling 😢 best cover ever
The effort put into this is just tremendous. Wow, that was a brilliant cover mate.
Wow, such a good and accurate cover and very good mixed!
fucking incredible dude! i'm shocked of how easy you make this song look. so much detail in it.
Well done young man!! It’s good to see someone playing it the way Mikael plays it live and not following the tabs online which are rife with errors.
And your technique is flawless!
Incredible work!
Never seen a cover so true to the original song, easiest sub of my life :))
Wow !.. ❤ you did it😍this is one of my favorite songs !.. Thank you so much!... i am subcribing

Jesus. Thanks for that. Masterfully played. I appreciate your attention to detail, not even you played the song, you did layers like the Akerfeldt voicings with the ebow and much more. Congrats man.
Hey thanks a lot!

Holy shit man, that was impressive as hell. Awesome job! You even nailed the tone.
Wow impressive work!👏
Wonderful cover man! and extra props on the Zelda poster! \m/
Dude, ace job. Been trying to transcribe this one and it isn't easy. People often get Mikael's riff voicings and positioning wrong but you nailed it.
Much appreciated!

Thank you! No tabs, just my ear + the few live performance videos of this songs that exist.
Amazing cover, did you buy this guitar second hand? It’s really rare to see a prs artist 24 in emerald green
