I love the route Kendrick chose and that's why he has a lot of people behind him. He said in an interview while explaining why he changed his stage name:
"When people heard Kdot they was like: "yo the kid is dope, you can rap but who is he?" I mean that went on for years. You just another cat in the streets that can rap good right. So I was like you know what, I want people to know who I am as a person and what I represent. So I woke up one morning, I said the best way to start it off is giving me, my name change, some my mother been calling me for years."
Now we know who he is as a person and what he represents. By the time you go through all of his discography from Overly dedicated to Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers you are left with nothing but love and respect for him, not even because he raps good but because of who he is and what he represents.
So I think he succeeded cuz now the whole world wants to hear what he's got to say. As difficult as this is to achieve than proving that you're the best MC he still managed to prove his top tier lyricism. People who think he isn't a threat to top tier lyricists probably haven't gone through all his discography from mixtapes to albums, features and The Heart Part series.

I get what your saying but its kinda offensive to say Lupe is supposed to be where Kendrick is now. I have to personally disagree, what is for Kendrick is for him & him alone & what is for Lupe is for him! Kendrick worked his ass off to get where he is today, & thats where God intended for him to be. Whatever is meant for Lupe will be too, if he is supposed to be in the limelight, & big in the mainstream world no one will be able to stop him from getting that. Lupe is where God intended him to be, maybe God feels he will be more impactful as a college professor. Nothing in our lives is by accident, & Kendrick is where he deserves to be, he did the work he need to do to get there, while also obeying the Creator. We end up dismissing everything the other person has done! We end up discrediting all the hard work & sacrifice they did to get to where they are in life! Becoming successful isnt easy, especially bc Kendrick isnt what the rap world would consider the conventional rapper, & still gained success, because God intended that for him! Lupe is exactly where God needed him to be, & wanted him to be, its where Lupe would find the most success for himself, & his life! Not everyone is meant to have the same things as others, then there wouldn't be anything original about everyone. Dont mean this in a disrespectful way at all, but I just didnt agree with saying Lupe should be where Kendrick is.🙏🏾🙏🏾
I understand. I was speaking from Lupe’s perspective when I say, “Lupe should be where Kendrick is.” Lupe seems envious and bitter that he didn’t receive the mainstream success like Kendrick.
If Lupe says it's all about lyricism, he should be going after the guy with the ghostwriters, not the guy tryin to bring the culture back imo 🤷🏾♂️

I fuck with both these dudes heavy, But its like this for me when I think about them as artists, Kendrick talk with you, its a conversation, Lupe talks to you, he just says what he needs to say. I dont know if that makes sense, but thats the biggest difference, and why I think they had dif levels of success in the rap game. Again, I fuck with both heavy, but people like to be talked with amore then at.

I love both of them as artists... but Lupe better tread lightly. The best thing he can do really is try to reach out to Kendrick for a song and ride that into a solid album. Fans are hungry for real bars now more than ever before. Give the people what they want.
Don't try to go for somebody who just finished taking another artist's head off and there's a history of others who moved out of his way leading up to this moment. But honestly I wouldn't even entertain Lupe if I was Kendrick. Lupe got solid projects under his belt but he gotta get his weight up first before coming for Kendrick.

Being from Chicago I can say these young kids might not even know who Lupe is at all . Li Durk and G Herbo are more respected in Chicago by far as far as the new generation . Kendrick is the King of the west coast over Snoop , Ice Cube , The Game and Dr Dre . Kendrick has a whole coast behind him while being respected by crips and really surrounded and protected by real Pirus and Bloods from LA . Lupe could never unite real Chicago gangs like the GD’s , Black P Stones , Vice Lords , BD’s from the Chicago inner city because his music doesn’t relate to that type of energy like Kendrick’s music does . Lupe is a dope rapper but to me his music is for a different audience . Kendrick relates to me more with songs like MAAD City , The Art of Peer Pressure , Good Kid ,Sherane A.K.A Master Splinter’s Daughter shit the whole album is the day in the life of your average inner city kid from any ghetto dealing with gangs and violence . Lupe is dope at putting rhymes together like Eminem and Li Wayne but I look at Kendrick like a young Ice Cube , Nas and 2Pac .
I LOVE Lupe, love listening to him. I mean I grew up listening to him entirely.

Lupe to me is a superior lyricist. In mho I think Lupe is a better lyricist then Dot. However, I think Dot is a great lyricist that knows how to craft his storytelling that is digestible to many and still have that wordplay, entendres, similes, metaphors in a cadence that makes you be like this ish snaps. To me Lupe could be like Kdot, could have gotten there with or without his label but I think that he choose to make music that he wouldn't as he would say "dumb it down" to make even slightly digestible to audiences who like to listen to music more for detox than a study session. Lupe don't even want to lean people into his lyrical crafts. He certainly aint making dance, club, or getting women tracks which unfortunately for Rap as whole will lose you play with the crowd. Dot can make Poetic Justice, Loyalty etc for his 'get at the ladies' tracks. He can make Humble, DNA, Swimming pools etc for his club tracks. Dot is a more well rounded artist who still delivers exceptional lyricism. Unpopular opinion: 2pac was not a gymnastic lyricist, but he was a well rounded rapper who delivered on all aspects and that is why he was/is label King. Lupe is not well rounded. Sure if you look at 'The Cool" you can pull some of that but majority of his discography is one sphere. To me that is why he the best lyricist but in the other aspects of the Rap game...Lupe doesn't hit. So i would say Kendrick is a better Rap artist but Lupe is a better lyricist. If they went bar for bar. Lyrics only, I believe Lupe wins. If we review tracks as a whole Dot wins. In most crafts, all aspects of the craft are measured to determine how to rank it. We can give awards for aspects that a person indisputable did well in like Best actor, best writer but that will not when the title of best Film-the whole peice. Thats how I view the conversation of Lupe vs Kendrick. Still would love to see it. And yess... as an ♒️ myself I think Lupe might be bitter at Dot.

Yeah. I understand him not being happy with the way his career panned out. Unfortunately, he was slightly ahead of what would’ve been, “His Time”. I think “The Cool” is one of the best rap albums ever. He’s going out sad though. And you hate to see it. But this is what happens to “our heroes” when they live long enough to become the villain. Don’t think this is by accident though. It’s part of a strategy. What picture did Drake post to his IG when he was forced to admit defeat? …. A Samurai. Both these cats are offspring of Pac. That’s why Lu’s label was 1st and 15th. Kenny got the musical ear. He creates better music than Lupe. But in terms of lyricism, he is better than Dot. But, Kendrick got the support of the “culture”. Close to the way Pac had it. Lupe never got that embrace, and frankly he never will. As a black man, I wouldn’t hate on the ones I influenced because they pushed the culture forward. I would laude them and celebrate their victory. Because when you hate, you show that the “message” wasn’t the selling point, it was you being the e “messenger”.
This would be an amazing battle and id love for lupe to gain some popularity

Even though I think he does have some degree of jealousy, I wish people would see why. What I mean is he’s so trained and has many many styles in the sport of it. I love K Dot and definitely glad he could shut Drake up, but he’s more limited in his hiphop artillery. I personally don’t care because the techniques he got is good enough for me, but when you’re someone like Lupe who genuinely values the sport, you’ll get confused why folks don’t see how well the game is being played by him (I’m talking hiphop sparring, not music industry politics).
