Every time he goes into an element, I attack with say fire and he drops the form within seconds. But he keeps deciding he earned that tri disaster crap every time.

If you can't get every member to have all elemental materia remember to use synergy skills and elemental abilities. Also a good attack Is the sonic boom enemy skill, this casts bravery too increasing attack power. Hope this helps.

Did you do this in chapter 9? You have some weapons and abilities I don't and I'm wondering what I'm missing. I'm level 33, trying to beat it on full power but reeeeaaaalllly struggling, hah.
I did this in chapter 9 but I have done every side mission, every simulation and weapon abilities as I go. If you missed weapons in the story missions you can buy them from the weapons vendor and that will access weapon abilities too. If you need a specific thing let me know and I'll let you know where I found it

You can't. The way to stop it is that you dont let it attune to that element. To stop this, is to make sure to pressure him by using elemental magic on it till it breaks.
