When they toured this album in Europe, I had the privelige of being the tour drum-tech. Other bands on the tour were Demoniac, Bewitched, Swordmaster, Dellamorte, and Dark Tranquility, who was alternating headliner with Enslaved. Per was an absolute beast on those drums! I mean, the others were great too :p But I'll never forget, sitting backstage each night, watching the liters of sweat drip through the drum throne, at an insane rate. He never missed a beat, and every single night, he was perfect and solid as a rock. It was like he transformed, from this quiet, easy going guy, face half hidden behind his long jet black hair, into a possessed metronome, each time he got behind the drums. It was bloody mesmerizing!

Harald Helgeson contributed at least 50% to the atmosphere of Eld´s album. Eld shines among the discography in this role with a laudable offering of consistent musicianship, strong thematic content, and lean on a generally warmer approach.
Literally changed my life. Along with Borknagar's "The Olden Domain". This was my first major introduction to black metal. I listened to this album on repeat for weeks! Both bands are still favorites of mine. This album is a masterpiece.
I love Enslaved. Old stuff, new stuff, everything is just amazing! There´s not a lot of bands who change their stile so drastically, an manage to keep up the quality!
I claim the intro to this album ("793") pretty much encapsulates extreme metal in the 90's, and the nostalgic discovery of this brave new world called internet. It's painfully nostalgic for me. The effect it has + the enigmatic "viking" gaze of its cover is strangely hypnotic and heartbreaking. It's so damn magical, naive, mysterious and nostalgic. I wonder if I'm alone here. It's like an invaluable lost treasure of an era one can no longer speak of (the 90's, Black Metal and the beginning of the internet). A beautiful and forever lost time.

Best Enslaved album. What happened ? I mean, I still like Enslaved, but...well, you know. I love on the fast parts the drummer sounds like he's about to fly off the rails. You can really tell he's at his limit. Man, 1997 was a phenomenal year for metal. SO MANY excellent releases; maybe actually the best year for metal, and I'm old like 52, so I know all about the 1980's, but for sheer quantity of excellence, I can't think of a better year,.

Their prog albums aren't pretentious and filled with wank, just great riffs and harmonies that remind me of classic Opeth with a harsher edge. My favourite albums are Frost, Eld and Below the Lights! My favourite songs are either Slaget om Lindisfarme or Roots of the Mountain.
After 5 fantastic black metal years from 1993 to 1997, with an explosion of beautiful and unique albums, suddenly the spirit was gone at nearly all bands. Same with ELD, after the unbelievable Vikingligr Veldi and Frost releases.
I don´t remember exactly how many times I clicked liked on this album during the years... The perfect blend between our native struggles and Black Metal... Skål!

The man who played drums for this album is an incredible drummer! His Name is Harald. This is the only Enslaved album he played on.

Seeing this band live in Chicago was one of my best memories.
This album can be a very good assistant with self empowerment. i also personaly get drawn into this sound in a very hard way.
