That is a schielhau - it isn't just a matter of counter-timing, but rather a false-edge attack that looks like a normal one, twisting the wrists so you get more articulation. Very similar, but since European swords had crossguards and two edges, there are nuances Kenjutsu would lack, and Kendo especially.
Jodan no Kamae works perfectly in Hema too but there is downside, as you have to go full force with cut and you cant control your blows you WILL be hated by all your friends in practise. After I basicly exploded plastic pauldron on the shoulder of my buddy, I do not use it in Hema for humanitarian purpuses. Also the person do european style Upper Gate or something - it looks horribly ineffective, although it is kept to overall principles, although main purpose of the high guard stance is not understood. Although, even in Kendo you can start practice Jodan after 1st dan, not earlier. Some say it should be trained only on 2nd dan mark.
I always wonder how would Kendo technique perform. and it looks like there was one successfull attempt at 1:35. nice
Pretty sure that's actually called "High Guard" in European Longsword terminology, but I may be mistaken.
