Hi Jackie! I loved this video! You did a fantastic job and what a wonderful birthday present. You’re going to have so much fun. Keep up the great work sweetheart. And thanks for the mention of Monet café in your awesome video.
Well Happy Birthday and congrats on such a wonderful collections of pastels! SO Many, Cool! I have had troubles with my Blue Earth sticks I hope you can show us how to use them to better effect! I am looking forward to more info! for sure! I would also recommend Alain Picard here on RUclips for the painterly effect painting with pastels videos. He is truly amazing with his mark making, I am quite envious!
I plan on finding out why they're so fragile, and what techniques are best with them. I think I will follow in the footsteps of Richard McKinley, and use them very gently in a "bridging" technique over watercolor or oil wash underpaintings.
I ordered Blue Earth's ultra darks and they are lovely, but too soft to be practical for my style. They crumble just pulling them out of the foam. I wish I would have gotten Terry Ludwig instead. I will use them because their dark pigment is exceptional and exactly what I needed to augment my other full sets of Richeson soft homemade half sticks lacking ultra darks, but so far I have only been able to use them with a soft pan pastel tool to apply. They crumble during application even with a light hand.
For Blue Earth, the top foam is only there to protect pastels during shipping. It should be removed ( permanently ) and not re-attached to the set. The sticks rest halfway into the lower foam which holds sticks in place, and the padded board insert and wood lid slide into the box to keep everything in together.
Yes, I know, thank you! I did remove it off-camera. It just took a bit of time to remove it carefully. I was on my way out when I made this unboxing, so I didn't do it on camera. There will be a separate video reviewing these pastels with a demo.
This paper is based on the legacy surface of Kitty Wallis and the renown Wallis paper. If your looking for that surface. I used it for color sticks or pencils years ago.
That set of pastels looks amazing! Have fun with your new supplies!
Happy birthday 😊

Did you ever end up doing the full review? I don't seem to be finding it on your channel.
How do maintain them organized
