Nice one pal, this is my local stretch of canal, I've lost count of the number of blanks I've had here! Yet its stuffed with fish, silvers, lots of small perch. I don't know why it's so hard, as its not hammered nowadays compared with the 70s, before the commercials appeared. There's some poaching of pike going on, that's why there's a lot of small jacks. I've Done better for perch on lob and waggler, last time under the railway bridge where you finished. Also done better with soft plastics on the river at the bottom of the valley there, though its pretty wild down there!! Well done dad too! All the best for 2023👍
Thanks for this ! It’s a very insightful comment. Great advice! I definitely wouldn’t have liked to drop a lure in that river today 😂 it was steaming through!!! What kind of fish are in the yarrow going through Duxbury? I have seen a couple of small trout over the years. Anything else I know it’s quite shallow! I was fishing today on the canal and after reading your comment I swapped to a spinner and had a perch 😂 just shows you the perch aren’t interested in the plastics on that stretch !!
@@WestysAngling I think the only angling that goes on in the canal is bfs perch guys, with an occasional pike deadbaiter. I've coarse fished over the summer and had good bags of roach, perch and skimmers in the evenings, you'd be amazed at the number of fish in there. But they're streetwise, maybe they've seen too many shads and ned rigs ! Nobody bothers with worm and float anymore so maybe it's come full circle?? The river is mostly shallow, but there's odd spots where its 4ft or so and that's where you might find a chub, roach, dace or perch. There's lots of small trout and I enjoy trout fishing with very light fly tackle through spring and summer, but they're out of season now and are crap sport on bait (way too easy to catch!!!) even when in season. It's given me a some half decent you tube footage but I don't mention the river's name!!! It's too fragile to get too much clobber. Douglas is probably a better coarse river, but duxbury has lots of charm
Hi Adam! Yes you are meant to pay for it mate it’s on a Wigan card ! I know it’s really annoying that you need different licences to fish all these different places when I have never been asked 😂 I just feel more comfortable fishing having paid ! 😂 it’s also annoying who covers where, it’s not massively obvious for some canals.
I've watched a million perch fishing video's and your the 1st I seen using a worm when drop shotting, I'm new to this and I've only ever caught my perch this way. I'm the exactly the same with my baitcaster. Brilliant stuff buddy 👏
Happy new year, ur dad smashing it as usual. German lane for me on bank holiday monday, fingers crossed i dont start the year with a blank. Keep up the videos, quality as usual.
Perch are not too keen to chase down baits in cold conditions. Very often fishing dead stick with the odd twitch, only turning the reel handle to take up any slack. Also, I've had a Perch of 41cm on Dropshotted Dendrobaena hard to the inside, only twitching it, not retrieving. Hope this helps, Tightlines!!
I just think it’s tough fishing ! Especially in the north. I think when you are watching professionals do it, it’s in well stocked areas… that’s my excuse anyway !
Happy New Year. I think the baitcaster with 40lb braid was too much for such a light jig, that’s why you had the issues. I use a baitcaster BFS setup with 9lb braid for that weight of jigs. All good learning though. Tight lines to you both.
@@WestysAngling some of its owned by club todmorden AA some stretches are free I think. Nice canal though not polluted. I've lure around Adlington and some parts of Wigan and nearly blanked Every time. You want a pb perch try there.
I reccomend concentrating your dropshotting under tunnels and on canals not to cast as far many perch hang out on the close margins as you said at the begging you should also lengthen the length between the weight and the hook but apart from that your looking good 👍
You spend too much time in a swim you should take around 10 to 15 casts in a swim spend around 4 to 5 mins in a swim you should see signs quickly of fish in the swim
Probably right with this ! I think it’s because I’m spending time trying different actions and techniques. When I get that sorted I will have more confidence I have worked a swim effectively 🎣👌🏻

Covers the Rufford canal as well which I hear is much better!
Well done Dad with his old school Rucksack. To many tackle tarts buying expensive Rucksacks that do the same job. Thumbs up for Dad
I throw handfulls of groundbait as I go to wake the fish up and get them moving, then drop shot through the groundbait on the way back.

I feel like the movement in winter of natural baits would be unbeatable ! However saying that most of my canal perch have been on spinners ! 🎣
Yes man I’ve been waiting for this remember I recommended dripshotting anyway keep the videos comin mate tight lines ❤✌️👍😎

Still grinding Dylan ! 🎣
Loving the videos keep em coming mate 🎣
Cheers guys 👌🏻🎣 looking forward to you showing me how it’s done 😂

Definitely rewarding when you get one ! No matter the size it’s always a shock 😂
hi westy ..stick at it .maybe try some river stretches!..tight lines to you and ya dad...
Happy New Year!
Gotta say you done most of them right, just unlucky that session
Happy new year buddy ! I know ! 3 sessions 3 Blanks. Had a perch on a spinner today though !
@@WestysAngling that’s good though, keep at it

I avoid wind knots by using 30lb braid with a mono leader.

Thanks Jason ! Happy new year mate 🎣🥳 I agree !
Is this the stretch that goes under the 3 way lights near the car sales place A6?
Does it come under Wigan angler ticket?
This stretch is Wigan yes 👌🏻 but your better off trying the Burscough stretch 🎣
@@WestysAngling thanks I only ask because I live in Eccleston area, does burscough come under Southport AA ticket or still Wigan?
@fir3mansam123 Wigan and Southport I believe
@@WestysAngling cheers
You should try Rochdale canal near littlebourgh and todmorden good perch fishing there
Who owns / has rights to that canal Dave ?

Summer is strictly feeder fishing mate 🎣😂 maybe I will have a bash when the carp are spawning 👌🏻👍🏻
