As a crocheter with carpal tunnel, bigger yarn and hook, lightweight ergonomic hooks, and crafters compression gloves. Also watch how you're sitting, it does make a difference. Set a timer, every 20 or so minutes, stop and take a 5 minute stretch break. Stretch all your fingers. Happy crafting!

No matter what I do I cannot do it like I can physically do it right then and there but for about a week or two even sometimes three weeks after doing more than probably 10 rows my hands swell and burn and hurt so bad every night I get woke up 5 to 10 times a night and have to be up for a good 30 minutes for it to calm down and then I can’t do hardly anything throughout the day cause I’m in so much pain it’s insane so prayers to everyone that it never gets that bad and you can continue doing what you love And number one advise listen to your body and do what you can to prevent getting worse like the stretches mentioned here

@@mariananolasco2801 large companies usually don’t get crochet products ethicality. Cheap crochet is made by underpaid workers. It’s best to not support those businesses and instead buy from small businesses! that way the maker is properly paid and supported :D
@@mariananolasco2801 crochet takes a lot of time and effort it is important to support crochet artists through sites like Etsy as if you purchased a crocheted piece of clothing from somewhere like Shen or primark it is significantly cheaper than places like Etsy this is bad because the people who made it for fast fashion brands are not getting paid the correct amount for there skill and time this became a greater issue when crochet became popular
@@mariananolasco2801 hi! crochet artists are making those items by hand and by supporting them, you’re supporting fair wages and high quality work environments. crochet items you might find from places like target or shein for example are also handmade, but when sold at low prices, the pay to the actual artists that made them is so incredibly minuscule. for example, the backpack she showed may have sold for $20 at walmart (hypothetical ofc), and maybe 3 of those dollars maximum are going in the hands of the people that made them. it’s a similar conversation to fast fashion vs sustainable fashion except with crochet. or if sewing machines didn’t exist and all the clothes were hand sewn but still sold at the prices they are now. increased time & skill but insanely low compensation. i hope that clears it up! happy to answer more questions 🥰
@@mariananolasco2801 because it’s most likely made in a sweatshop by seriously underpaid workers. When crocheting a garment or even a blanket, it is so time consuming. Not to mention hard on your hands, shoulders, neck and back if youre not set up properly. I can crochet for an hour at a time at most. Can’t imagine having to crochet for a fast fashion company 10 hours a day x

Honestly, I don’t know if she is coming into her own, trying to be funny or down right insulting and condescending to her family at times. It is a whole new Mia, that I am unsure about. If it is all in good fun, no worries but something is a little different. I have been loving her channel for years and admire her ability to touch audiences of various age groups.

I absolutely adore Mia and her mom's relationship and how much of an iconic duo they are. During this video, I had the massive realization of why I enjoy this content so much and it was such an overwhelming feeling. I have a younger sister and I've always envied her and my mother's connection and how I don't have that with anyone, I've always been quite distant with my family and my not so long-lasting friends so watching this connection between Mia and Momma maples and feeling somewhat included gave me this rush of a kinda happy loneliness. I don't know, if you actually read this far I hope you have/had a wonderful day

I feel that too. It’s like bitter-sweet watching this at times.
I love it so much .I've always had that kind of relationship with my mom and my 16 yr daughter and I are the same . Most 16 yrs olds want nothing to do with their parents going through that stage ,but my daughter and I still do everything together. I got her into figure skating so I'd have someone to go with me . We also take a girls trip every summer to Padre Island for 2 weeks and we have a blast .
So I just love seeing other girls have such close relationship with their mom. It always makes me feel so bad when I hear others saying they don't get along with their mother. Scientifically the bond between mother and daughter is the strongest bond humans can have even stronger than the spouse relationship. I just saw a thing about that and really they were so right.

I still do it, even though I now own some very nice bags. It's just a habit at this point. I've been trying to break it with a very nice sports bag, but I still put everything into grocery bags and then dump the lot into the sports bag. 😑

Crochet tip: wrist pain is all about the yarn, hook, and posture. Acrylic yarn is a lot stretchier (than cotton specifically) which helps your hand take less strain, like running on a track rather than on concrete. I've found that good hook with a squishy handle helps my right hand cramp less. And, when it comes to posture, I feel less sore when I crochet at a desk in a similar position to typing on a computer. Hunching over not only hurts your back, but it can put your arms into cramped positions that can make you sore.
(I should mention that a lot of my tips I learned from Le Petit Saint Crochet on RUclips. She has a lot of useful info!!)

For your wrist aches crocheting: try a lighter crochet hook, addi has super light acrylic ones with gold glitter that i love for example! also there are some with ergonomic aka thicker handles. anything that makes you grip everything less tight! also if you have troubles crocheting with the "correct" hook size for a yarn, try going a size or two up, it sounds and looks like you're crocheting super tense so a bigger hook should ease your problems !! good luck on the granny squares !!
when you say a lighter hook, do you mean the weight of the hook?
@@misseselise3864 yes, sorry i should've specified! also often we grip tighter when the material is more slippery, like metal! so having something with a little bit of texture to grip the yarn, like bamboo, can also be helpful! ya just gotta figure out what it is that makes u grip ur hook with an iron fist haha
Since your comment has a lot of upvotes let me add:
- The pencil grip might be easier on your wrist. So if you are using the knife grip you might want to try switching.
- Take it easy. It takes time to build up muscles. Stop when you feel pain.
- Even though it isn't the quickest method you might want to let your hand that holds the yarn do some more of the work, like the yarn over. This isn't usually recommended because it can slow you down, but it might take some strain off your dominant hand.
Also try the video 'the perfect granny square' by 'sirin's crochet' to get a very good looking actual square.
I love the hooks with silicone handles.
The pink chaps were fun but when to turned around and revealed your butt to Mama Maples, killed me. I'm crying, laughing so hard, poor Mama Maples.

@@vzeimen Same for you, take some pictures and post the listings on Etsy! Nothing much to lose from doing it, other than a 20 cent fee per listing! Of course, you'd have to have a way to ship your items and print shipping labels. You can get free boxes delivered to you from USPS.

It can take some trial and error getting everything set up on the website, figuring out the most efficient size of box and what shipping materials you will need, as well as photos and listing descriptions, not to mention figuring out what you feel is reasonable to charge for the item itself. But, with all that said, it’s worth a shot once you get the ball rolling; there really isn’t much to lose.
I have hand issues and found a very helpful tool! It's a small business on Etsy called ChunkyBoyCrochetHook. They hand-make silicone ergonomic grips that you can interchange on different crochet hooks. They seem to have a restock coming up. The ChunkyBoys have definitely helped me be able to crochet more! Also I know you love Etsy too 🖤

Susan Bates has ergonomic hooks that may help with your wrist. I'm pretty sure Micheals in Canada has them and they're packaging free to be environmentally friendly :)

There's also two different ways to hold a crochet hook, you can probably find a youtube video on this. Maybe whatever technique you aren't doing will work better.

I've been crocheting for over 15 years. The pain in the wrist is common for new crocheters and is often due to not holding the wrist steady while you are crocheting. I would highly suggest looking up ways of holding a crochet hook because what works for one person may not work for you, same with holding the yarn. There are also wrist support braces you can look into getting and gloves made for people with arthritis that help. Also, thank you for supporting crocheters, it's very common for people to underesimate the time/effort and costs that goes into creating a crochet piece and a seller often deals with a lot of people who want something for nothing.
The fact being your Mum is soooo invested makes my heart warm. Especially your Dad. He looks annoyed but he's still there for you. Love it

Here in jamaica back in my days at least in primary school they started teaching us kids how to crochet since the 4th grade. We all started on the granny squares but we call them easy squares and once you master that you move to more advanced techniques. Then we displayed them on heritage day with the other things we spent the year making like embroidery, baskets, belts, bags and other stuff. I'm going to buy some more supplies and start doing those again. Love the video!
