Something that would have been in the high $5000 before , is now available to the mortals for under $700. I can not wait to see all the videos and your recap on the PGA show. Nice job Gabe
I’ve finally started the buildout on my simulator in one of my detached garge and I’ve been having some misgivings about making my FlightScope Mevo+ as launch monitor to build around. while I will certainly use it, this device seals the deal for me. As soon as he listed the various ways to connect to external viewing sources, I was sold.
The guys at golficity hit shots on this and the $20k GC Quad at the same time and the numbers were basically identical, including driver. This thing will be amazing for the price. If they can somehow get 3rd party software working with it, they'll have a huge hit on their hands.
Game changer but I’ll keep my R10 for now. Let you guys work through the kinks in the first run and I’ll come back and scoop one next winter!! Thanks for always giving us the truth!!
Given Rapsodos history that's a good idea. The original MLM was horrible for over heating and shutting off, no reads, and let's not forget no Android support up to now when they said it would have it.
And plus, unless I'm missing something, this is still a Doppler radar based unit. So... it still won't incorporate the gear effect of side spin because the radar just cannot see that. Hence... shot shape will be slightly off just like on the R10 (which I use). Now if the high speed cameras were reading shot and ball data... that would be a game changer - but it would cost 3 or 4 times as much no doubt! Keeping the R10.
@@MrRobertLavala I saw on another video of t his product that it comes with specially marked balls and it does actually read ball spin so it should pick up on spin axis as well.
@@paulw7405 Now that you mention it I saw that too. I discounted it though as I don't want to have to buy their special balls but rather use what I play with on course. Thanks Paul.
Looks like a great year for golf launch monitor and simulator. Can't wait to see in-depth reviews of MLM 2 Pro and the new Swing Caddie launch monitor.
Gabe This device looks insanely good for the money. Interested in battery life as well as cost of Callaway RPT balls and their availability. I am guessing they could be as costly as the Titleist RCT balls which would be a shame. Rapsodo should consider making a ball stencil as well so that users can draw on the spots so that it will measure spin with any ball (maybe not to the same accuracy but still better than no spots). Looking forward to seeing you try out the simulation mode later on and how it deals with putting.
A bought a dozen of the Titleist RCT balls from the Titleist website. I live in Canada so they were about $100. After about 300 shots they start to look pretty beat up. Something that I never considered.
I like your videos because you are an average golfer and so am I. I hate videos with people reviewing clubs that are all most scratch golfers. All of them hit a driver 300 yards off the tee. I am lucky to hit a ball 265 off the tee. Well love your videos keep up the good work.
I like the camera system, but my favorite feature on the Garmin R10 that has helped me the most is the club path and face data. While the R10 has some flaws with distance and the occasional launch direction issues on their app, a lot of that is fixed using other software. I use Awesome Golf (one time $350 cost or $200 up front and $10 per month) and it has fixed a lot of the issues many people have had with the R10. While some may not like paying for another company's software after purchasing the R10 hardware, you have to consider that after the first year you will be paying $200/yr to fully unlock this Rapsodo device's features which does not include the simplistic yet all important club path/face data that most amateurs REALLY need. Would love to see you try Awesome Golf on the R10 and give us your thoughts. Their "Coaching" section in particular may be the best game improvement feature I've seen on the simulation market. It keeps all the important data on one screen so you spend less time scrolling through every shot. Still needs the ability to save sessions so you don't have to screenshot everything, but their team assured me it's on the way. P.S. - I am not hating on the MLM 2 at all. I think it would be a great purchase if I didn't already have the R10 and would LOVE to try out some of those camera features. I just think that many people need to try out the R10 paired with different software, instead of deeming the device as faulty when the problem lies in the Garmin software.
There's a video out comparing this unit shot for shot with GC Quad. Wedge, 7 iron and driver shots and It is literally almost spot on. Having a comparable unit to a GC Quad for under $700 is a game changer. People who mention the R10, it's not even in the same ball park. I've seen the R10 compared to a GC Quad and it kept me from getting the R10. These will be sold out so fast that you'll probably see them on ebay for more than the stated price.
I was at a golf scramble where they had a $20,000 trackman measuring the long drive hole. They told us the long drive was 350 yards. I measure it with my gls watch and it was only 310 yards. So even the top-end units aren't always accurate. I have an R10 and Mevo. I trust them about 90% of the time.
Bummed. Gabe, while working at the convention center, I was able to walk the PGA show a lot. I didn't get a chance to meet you, and wasn't sure what day you would be there. I did meet Jon and Ash from Stacked Golf. Also, shook hands with Rick Shields, and Larry Bobka from 2nd Swing. This year seemed way better than last year. Hope you had a good time.
I really liked when he said you could Airplay to TV/monitor instead of having a projector. That would be convenient although having the image on screen/net to hit into would be optimal.
I have a Garmin r10 and I love it. But I can say the new Rapsodo 2 looks really slick. The cameras with built in shot tracer is a great feature. The sim courses looked very nice. better then the garmin app for sure, not as nice as E6. I heard that to use the full camera features you need to pay for the yearly subscription, which is the only thing I wouldn't like. I use the free E6 on my r10. But I bet this thing will be very popular. Happy to see so much happening on the budget end of launch monitors.
One thing I didn't like about the R10 and got returned for that reason is, when hitting into a net at home outdoors, it was about 30 yards off in distance and no matter how much I tweaked it, it didn't make a difference. But the feature it had that I really liked was being able to play my home courses with Home Tee Hero. If this has something like that plus E6 that I use with my SLX, it would be pretty cool! So I am looking forward to your evaluation when it comes in.
I too was an early adopter of the SLX. Really hoping their nano revision works out. When I can get it to read shot shape, it's pretty darn good. Regardless, I'll be thinking really hard about picking up the MLM2. Just based on the spin accuracy alone. This thing was crazy impressive against the GCQuad in Golficity's initial review.
I got slx basically because I have room in the house to use it. It's fun when the weather isn't good and could be a good swing training aid. But that is about it. I can adjust the setting a little to give me some shape tho.
@@thecringegolfer The space requirements are a big advantage to the SLX. The biggest "issue" is that getting in early means some growing pains. They seem committed to getting it sorted out. Just sucks waiting and trying to figure out what to do in the interim.
Here it is 8 months later and it’s still not ready in my opinion. Getting close but had too many bugs, the disconnects and the distance of woods were horrible. I wanted to love it but my driver, 3, 5 and 4 iron all carried the same when in person the driver was off 80 yards, 3 wood about 60 yards, 5 wood about 40 yards and 4 iron about 20 yards. No matter the distance or environment I experienced the same thing.
Any information on distances? From ball and to screen? Part of the trouble with the Garmin is it requires that ideal 14 feet in total setup... you can do it shorter but you get more inaccuracies and missed shots.
Rapsodo was the first one to bring Radar+Optical sensor fusion to the entry level with MLM1 but their success was limited due to the reliance on iPhone cameras. Now that they managed to integrate the camera while staying in the budget price range means that Garmin is dead while Skytrak and Mevo+ are seriously threatened. There are a couple things I hope you will address during your full review: While the 240fps camera is the game changer for Spin measurement (R10 proved that launch angle and azimuth can be measured accurately with Radar but requires 90mph ball & 20ft flight to measure spin) Rapsodo demo'ed this capability using their proprietary ball that appear to have nonrepeating patterns on it. My question is will the player be locked in to buy Rapsodo balls for the rest of the life of this product, or can other marked balls or even DIY marked balls work? Also, outdoor users will definitely NOT be using these balls, so what happens to Spin? Can MLM2 measure spin outdoors like the R10? Another question is Garmin only locks Simulation behind a subscription paywall. With Rapsodo, they use your iPhone to record and store your swing but make you pay subscription to see it, which I feel is pretty greedy. Hype is building around MLM2 now. It would be a shame to find many of these exciting features just simply be locked behind subscription again, which makes the $699 pricetag merely an illusion.
699 comes with 1 year of simulation not sure what the subscription price is after that 1 yr. also second hand will dramatically impact the price of these.
So the device itself has two cameras. That is different from the dual camera shots though. In order to accomplish that you need to use your smart phone or tablet.
For me the R10 was either way too inaccurate, or at the range, things like concrete etc was interfering with the readings. Certainly not something I’m willing to faff around with. Looking forward to seeing more tests on the rhapsodo, but from what I’ve seen so far it looks so much better.
I saw Golfcity got their hands on one and got to test it. They just compared spin numbers to that of a GC4. The spin numbers on wedge, 7 iron, Driver averaged less than a 100 rpm difference. Spin was pretty much the only metric the original MLM was missing the rest of the data was good to great. If that all holds true then this kills the Skytrak and Mevo+ they’re obsolete unless they drop the price. And now there’s now really no reason for anyone to buy a GC3/4 or trackman that’s not doing professional fitting.
mevo+, skytrak also have attack angle, launch angle, and spin direction, mevo+ just added impact location. the prices of launch monitors is not reflective of features or market value of metrics, its more a reflection of the niche size of the launch monitor market.
@@nickbryan217 sure just like how the garmin r10 made those launch monitors obsolete ;} also like i mentioned the whole space is over priced cause of the small number of units sold
@@jimecherry unlike the R10, the MLM2 actually measures spin rate. And based on a head to head test with the GC4 it does it pretty well. Just saying if the MLM2 is as advertised I’d be very nervous if I’m Skytrak or Mevo+….
@@nickbryan217 There's still plenty of indoor spaces out there where photometric launch monitors work better. I understand this unit is both radar and photometric, but I guess time will tell how it performs in indoor noisy spaces.
Ok so R10 is 6 feet behind and needs 12 feet from mat to net which is 18 total and Rapsodo is 6.5 feet behind 6-8 infront so 14 total? Wondering because I’m maxed out in my garage and feel like R10 needs more room for better reads so if Rapsodo needs less space that’s ideal.
More reviews are coming out on this. Seems like the best budget device. Would have been nice to include several free courses. I guess we can't have it all.
This looks like an amazing MLM for the price. Too bad I just bought the original Rapsodo MLM for $350 at Xmas! Should have known something better was right around the corner but that's technology I guess. Love the original Rapsodo so far. I live at high elevation (cool country) so have not experienced any over heating so far. Thanks for another great product update Gabe!
Do we know if the subscription is 100% need to operate it, or does that expand the use into the courses, skill challenges, etc. Would be nice if you get a driving range without the sub so it's not a $700 paper weight without being subscribed.
I want to invest in a launch monitor that is less than $1,000 CAD and the two best one seems to be the Garmin R10 and the Rapsodo MLM 2 Pro. Is the data accuracy/reliability of the MLM 2 better than the Garrmin because of camera/doppler radar? I will be using the unit mostly on the range outside and in a bakyard net. Thanks, Luc
Gabe - love your content, and your enthusiasm! You seem like an average golf nut like most of us - very relatable. Here’s my question - I use the Skytrak indoors and find it very reliable. I own a Mevo+ that I tried inside but found it cumbersome. I was going to keep it as my outdoor monitor, but I’m thinking I might be better off with an easier unit. I simply want something that gives me accurate distances on the range and while I’m chipping. What would you recommend?
An optical system like the Skytrak is always going to be the best bet in terms of accuracy indoors. Outdoors, most of the little doppler devices do pretty well. Best of both worlds is the Bushnell Launch Pro, but it's hefty and has a price tag to boot. This new Rapsodo, looks like it could be the best of both worlds, but I need to take a deeper dive testing it to be sure.
Be interesting to see your in depth review Gabe . Does it do putting also ? Good that units like this are coming to the market can only help bring prices down and make more affordable for all of us to enjoy sim golf. ⛳️🍻
@@Daviddear30 thanks so much for the response. Might be a legit option for me. @@craigrapp9469 after the latest Skytrak update I’m getting both game improvement packages for free, unless it’s just a free 30 day trial. How about you?
@@LetsPlayThru - That is my real Q - they have the camera put that stat in the UI - one second on a clock represents about a 6 degree angle - not sure if even a fighter pilot could tell the difference between 2 degrees O to I versus 2 degrees I to O - just sayin' :) - hopefully they do what mqueue76 states in the 2nd comment below - Thanks for listening!
I am looking into an indoor golf simulator that easily accommodates both lefties (me) and righties (everyone else!). This looks awesome. I assume an iPad is the screen of choice? How about short throw projector? I would appreciate any and all input. I have a 20x15 room with 10 foot ceilings, by the way…Thanks! 😊
If you need to accommodate righties and lefties, a Doppler device is always the best bet. Because it is behind you rather than to the right or left of you. This may be a good option, but I want to test the accuracy more. If you can stretch the budget Mevo+ is a great option to look at.
@@LetsPlayThru With either, the touch screen would be an iPad? Also, any thoughts on decent but not very expensive short throw projectors? I am starting from scratch - even thoughts on enclosures are much appreciated!!
So are the cameras really being used for flight data or just to record impact and give a shot tracing? I thought it might be a hybrid with the doppler like you said but I’m not sure. Most camera based systems are on the side or above, not behind.
Hi Gabe! Great initial "review" and this is very exciting to see at such a orice point. Do u know if 1/ it will measure angle of attack and 2/ will it work for lefties? If no AOA w this unit, what in your opinion would be the best way/best affordable unit to measure that metric? Thanks and keep doing excellent stuff for us golfers!
I have to do some more testing for sure but from what I can see it’s as good as I’ve come across at this price point. When I get a demo unit I will dive deeper for sure.
thanks a lot for this. A very "real life-ish" report.. and honest impressions.. Those devices are clearly getting better, more affordable and there is an increasing choice.. - which makes choosing even more difficult..
Did you hit the balls that had some of the dimples colored? I know for indoor use it's ideal but outside on the range just not sure how it would pick up the spin rates. But I'm very intrigued by this product and the price is very nice!
Does it need marked balls to measure spin? If so what is the quality of those golf balls. I'm guessing they may be 2 piece rocks that I wouldn't normally play anyway. If you take it to the range you would not be able to hit the marked balls unless you want to run out to collect them over & over. For what it is it's a nice piece of tech.
They partnered with Callaway on a ball that is specific for the system. It has black dots on it. It’s only needed indoor though, Outdoor you can use a range ball or any ball.
Gabe.. thanks for the quick video showing what I also think will be a good piece of tech for us golfers.. I passed on the prior version due to my world is Android.. definitely worth looking into this one. I recall he said $699 includes first year of software, any idea after that the price?
One word, Game Changer! Spin axis is the differentiator here as far as I'm concerned. Unlike the R10, it should be able to emulate draw/fade -hook/slice ball flight patterns for a more realistic simulator experience, and for < 700$! What!. This renders the 500$ Garmin R10 obsolete.
I’m interested to see what courses it will have. I wonder if any of my local courses made the roster. Is there a way to see the course list? I know 30K courses is a probably going to have them, just want to make sure lol. Great content sir!👊🏽
@@LetsPlayThru in your opinion sir, do you think I should wait another month or so for this, or just get the R10 now? I’m really at a crossroad because I want a simulator. When it sounds to good to be true it often is …. Other balls not picking up spin might be a catch and will be interesting on the range. But sounds amazing for $700

Does it show where you hit the ball like the new mevo
No but there’s a high speed camera to show impact
this is amazing Love Rapsodo listening to the customers this will be on top my list to get :D
@@jimecherry skytrak and mevo+ are $2500-3000…. MLM2 is $699…. And it’s every bit as good as skytrak and Mevo+, they won’t survive in that space.
I didn't read all the comments so it may be answered already but how much room is needed in front and behind the ball to get best readings?
Unit sits 7-8’ behind and you’ll want about 8’ in front for accurate readings.
If you listen properly then the first year it’s free what does it cost in the second year ???
$199
Do you need dots on the ball for spin to be measured?
No but there will be special Callaway balls with black dots to use
@@LetsPlayThru If you don't need the dots, why have balls with dots?
@larrybud I think you need the dots to measure the angle of desent and maybe spin axis? 🐊
What’s distance needed from hitting area to net for best results?
6-8 feet they tell me
Ok so R10 is 6 feet behind and needs 12 feet from mat to net which is 18 total and Rapsodo is 6.5 feet behind 6-8 infront so 14 total? Wondering because I’m maxed out in my garage and feel like R10 needs more room for better reads so if Rapsodo needs less space that’s ideal.
Will it have putting?
I don't believe it'll have putting options, so you'll get standard 1 to 3 putts on auto putt depending on your distance from pin?
Awesome review can’t wait to see ur full review. Side question where did you get the AP logo hat love it.
Thank you
Bay Hill pro shop
More reviews are coming out on this. Seems like the best budget device. Would have been nice to include several free courses. I guess we can't have it all.
Great review and can't wait for your full review when you get one in your hands..Thanks and Hit them Far & Sure....
Thank you 🙏
This looks like an amazing MLM for the price.
Would be nice if you get a driving range without the sub so it's not a $700 paper weight without being subscribed.
most of the time the premium sub is to access the full set of courses via e6 / awesome golf. the range will be free by default
The $200/yr subscription is needed to get the spin #'s.
Thanks for the replies 👍
I want to invest in a launch monitor that is less than $1,000 CAD and the two best one seems to be the Garmin R10 and the Rapsodo MLM 2 Pro. Is the data accuracy/reliability of the MLM 2 better than the Garrmin because of camera/doppler radar? I will be using the unit mostly on the range outside and in a bakyard net. Thanks, Luc
I’m not able to say definitively just yet. I have not fully tested it.
Did you get to see any of the 30,000 course.? That seems like a lot.
I'm curious as to why there are no reviews on this product yet, despite it being on pre-order. Have Rapsodo not sent out review units?
No they haven’t sent yet. 🤷♂️
I hope this will be compatible with TGC 2019 eventually. I was very close to getting a SkyTrak but this is making me reconsider
Can you do multiply player?
Be interesting to see your in depth review Gabe . Does it do putting also ?
Good that units like this are coming to the market can only help bring prices down and make more affordable for all of us to enjoy sim golf. ⛳️🍻
How much space does it need to operate? Wondering if it can replace my sky trak for a garage setup
6.5-8 ft behind the ball. 8 feet of ball flight (in other videos)
@@Daviddear30 thanks so much for the response. Might be a legit option for me. The garmin r10 seemed to be way off when used in my garage, so ended up going sky trak, but I can’t say i love sky trak’s subscription model for what feels like basic features, especially considering how expensive the device is.
@@craigrapp9469 after the latest Skytrak update I’m getting both game improvement packages for free, unless it’s just a free 30 day trial. How about you?
Good find Gabe. Any other interesting finds at show?
Srixon ZX5, Mizuno 223 STX, Voice caddie SC4, and Golfzon Wave would be the standouts for me.
Great first glimpse Gabe! Thanks for posting right away - two Q's for you - no Club Path or Face to Path still?
Doesn’t seem like it. But you do have the high speed camera that will show you the impact position
They will most likely do what mevo+ did ; you will have to pay extra for that later :)
Big thing is data collection, and update/add on costs
Great Preview
I started out with the mevo, then the R10 and now I have to get this. Lol w
So are the cameras really being used for flight data or just to record impact and give a shot tracing? I thought it might be a hybrid with the doppler like you said but I’m not sure. Most camera based systems are on the side or above, not behind.
I’ll know more once I can test the actual unit in my studio. Hopefully sooner than later.
No angle of attack?
With the Callaway golf balls with dots provided, YES
Hi Gabe i have a question for you... which rangefinder would you recommend BLUETEES S3 MAX or PROCISION PRO NX10....... thx.... cheers from Canada
Of those two, I’d go NX10
This is great. How accurate are the numbers? to me if it's not telling me true numbers it's not really helping me improve.
I have to do some more testing for sure but from what I can see it’s as good as I’ve come across at this price point. When I get a demo unit I will dive deeper for sure.
@@LetsPlayThru at this price point. How would it compare to Skytrak?
Man this looks sweet. Just pre-ordered.
For the price and features, that thing is a steal if it is moderately accurate
thanks a lot for this. A very "real life-ish" report.. and honest impressions.. Those devices are clearly getting better, more affordable and there is an increasing choice.. - which makes choosing even more difficult..
My pleasure. Yes, it's exciting to see the progress tech makes each year. And it's great to be spoiled for choice.
This could be the launch monitor of my choice. Looking forward to the review.
Can you go without the subscription??? That seems like a big difference between this and the R10
It will limit a number of features and metrics and the impact camera, but you could
Can we get an accumulated dispersion average? PLEASE say yes.
I’d be interested to know what it’s able to do without the pro membership, it’s basic functions
They told me you would still get the driving range in the basic Launch monitor capabilities.
What about the new sky caddie 400
Why didn't they have this set up to be connected to like a PC or something like a Microsoft surface?
Did you hit the balls that had some of the dimples colored? I know for indoor use it's ideal but outside on the range just not sure how it would pick up the spin rates. But I'm very intrigued by this product and the price is very nice!
Yes I use those for the indoor test. Outdoors any balls should work. Doppler devices outdoors are generally pretty accurate with regular balls.
Look forward to seeing this when it makes it to market.
Sounds like it's mobile device only? Would be very interested if its pc compatible
i've heard this will work with pc e6
The one thing I found was the wait from hot till it showed the back.
Supposedly it will only measure spin with the special Callaway balls AND an active $200/yr subscription.
Wow, looks great, It would be interesting to see a review of the Uneekor Eye Mini. Will it have club data?
Stay tuned I checked that one out too
Gabe.. thanks for the quick video showing what I also think will be a good piece of tech for us golfers.. I passed on the prior version due to my world is Android.. definitely worth looking into this one. I recall he said $699 includes first year of software, any idea after that the price?
First year Premium Subscription included with initial purchase, and the Premium Subscription will cost $199.99/year (USD) thereafter.
This looks great! I also saw a very small tidbit of the new VoiceCaddie CL4, were you able to check that out? Wondering the comparison.
I did, it looks great too
@@LetsPlayThru Are you going to be getting this for review? Any Idea when these will be available?
Nice looking device. I look forward to your review.
I think they are using one of the main course databases out there. Should have just about every one similar to home tee hero.
@@LetsPlayThru in your opinion sir, do you think I should wait another month or so for this, or just get the R10 now? I’m really at a crossroad because I want a simulator. I guess this reads spin more accurately with the balls it comes with compared to the R10. Maybe I should just wait and watch the reviews on your channel🤔
If you don't have a place at home you can set it up at the range. But...range balls give you different numbers--lower and less consistent.
That's the best new product and great price!
Australian launch date??????
He sort of ignored your question about the allowable hitting zone left or right of the launch monitor…did he clarify this off camera?
It’s about the size of a sheet of paper 7x11 I think
Does it require your phone to work? That was the big problem with the original as phones would overheat outdoors and it'd nuke your battery.
We cover that in the video, but that's the best part, it doesn't require the phone other than to run the app.
Just need a device to see data/simulation. No phone needed to capture shots/data
Did Rapsodo just reuse the Ubiquiti AmpliFi High Density Mesh Point case lol?
Does it tell you club path
Yes
@@Gatorgolfusa it doesn't
When it sounds to good to be true it often is …. Other balls not picking up spin might be a catch and will be interesting on the range. But sounds amazing for $700
That’s true. Hoping I can I get a unit in the next week or two so I can really put it through the paces.
No AoA?
I love Garmin watches and they’re a great company however I’m afraid this will kill the R10, which I believe is also a great product but the Rapsodo has SIM with better graphics and will be more accurate.
No club path?
Yes, it does record and video club path! 🐊
