Some people said, having affairs are personal, so long as they have done a good job, who cares about their personal life. Mind you, if a politician claims his duty is to serve the country, promise to do good work for the people yet he/she can lied to their spouse whom they vowed to love and care for, what makes you think that he/she wouldn’t lie to you? If he/she cannot resist the temptation for lust, to make a right choice behind closed door, what makes you think that he/she can resist corruption, coz it boils down to the same thing, and that is, integrity.

When you're not caught in the adultery web, it's very easy to judge others. If you're caught in it, it's extremely difficult to disentangle yourself.
All the mental strength exercised between both parties to disengage is insufficient. Why? There's the strong emotional, physical, sexual pull towards each other in that technically illicit affair that needs to be addressed. Not to mention the push factor/pressures faced by both parties in their individual married circumstances.

Don’t ridicule others. Don’t make fun of others, it’s so rude. Show some compassion. It’s always easy to criticise.
Please respect the family and give them time to heal.
Tell us honestly, have you guys ever admired someone secretly in your hearts and lust over him or her? Can you honestly say that you are holy? For having lustful thoughts and hoping for a right moment for it to happen? Don’t laugh, some of you are not caught yet. We are all humans. It just that some of you can control or suppress the temptation from time to time through divine help but that doesn’t mean you are completely free of sexual impurity. We humans can fall given the right conditions. Remember that.

What happens in marital affairs? Cheating, lying, covering up, and so on (not only to spouse and family, but also to everyone else) will have to take place. That leads to the issue of integrity. Are political leaders involved in extramarital affairs fit to have the trust of people? Eroding trust will destroy this rare quality Singapore has.

The stark difference in the management of these two scandals, one fresh and one two years old, presents a notable contrast and prompts the question of whether the same standards of accountability and transparency were applied to both situations, or if we are witnessing a double standard.
In 2021, Raeesah Khan, then a WP MP, was found to have lied in Parliament. The subsequent investigation into not only her actions but also the conduct of her party leaders was both intensive and extensive.

If adultery is morally unacceptable and we allow such MPs to continue their duties as representatives of their constituents, can their constituents trust their MPs to make morally correct decisions in their interest? To add, their adulteries wasn't a simple once off lapse in judgement, it was a conscious decision to cheat on their partners despite being found out by their respective Party leaders.

If you have the time to do all of this stuff, are you spending enough time at your job? Spending time with your kids? Keeping up with your relatives. It's interesting watching this from the US as we've moved to a more anything goes environment.

I really feel for our MP feelings and he had to came out for the press conference to explain their wrongdoings. So simple punishment just quit and settle the matter ? Really ? 😮
Their family are the worst situation .. their kids and devoted wife must face the humiliation for the rest of their life if they can’t disassociate themselves properly or legally . Regardless ..
it is gonna remain as crack in their family relationship and obviously a bad memory they have to bear . Respectfully , i wish the individuals at fault will learn this valuable life lesson and mend their ways with their own spouses and their kids. Just Hope time will be the healer for all hurts . ✌🏻

Political Leader have the responsibility to lead the country towards a more prosperous, harmonious and etc. however, if they can’t even have a harmonious family (due to the adultery), how can they even bring the country towards that.

WP still serves a very viable role of providing a credible opposition. Any government, no matter how proficient, should still be held accountable as the public demands more transparency. Perhaps the key benefit of seeing such a sizeable number of MPs this past four years is that Singaporeans are now cognisant about the need for more opposition in Parliament as a check and balance. The WP, to their credit, have played this role very well.
If we focus on the WP’s achievements as a merely PAP-WP face off, we might feel a tad disappointed, for the WP is still currently a very small force. But if we place it in the incumbent-challenger perspective, and given the greater number of highly electable opposition politicians across all opposition parties.

Look Adultery does not disqualify an MP from serving in Parliament. Ultimately it's a party discipline issue and interestingly BOTH parties acted the same way. i.e. sat on the thing until it came out. Which tells you both parties think that an MP committing adultery is something that will turn off voters and affect the party brand. I'm kind of skeptical that Pritam fired the MPs because they lied to him not because of the adultery. Is he saying that if the pair was honest about the adultery and was committing it openly, it's not an issue for the Worker's Party?

Politics is not the epitome of High Priesthood. Family affairs are private matters and where Ethics is an issue, it is best to get professional experts to help sort them out. The best solution...one person has to resign from the Party. That removes the Party from having to sack both persons.
Marital breakups are common. In fact, pre-marital breakups are common. Politicians are humans and will face relationship problems.
As for honesty...tell me who is 100% honest, never telling a lie to achieve an objective? The key is whether it is a crime to lie. In many circumstances, a lie can be a criminal offence. In others, it is just part of life.

I would like to note on a policy that Cao Cao (Late Han - period of the Three Kingdoms) implemented which Singapore actually also has till this day, Meritocracy.
He stated his willingness to accept competent individuals to work for him even when they lack sense of morality. He described those people as "those who carries a bad reputation, those who once had humiliating scandals, those who are unkind to others or unfilial to their parents but has the ability to govern a country and win wars."
I believe one's moral compass shouldn't be mixed up with his ability to govern the country. In response to the question of " Competent politician with a shitty marriage VS Mediocre politician with a perfect marriage", my question will always be "Which of this 2 politicians can lead my country to a greater success? Which of this 2 politicians can bring prosperity to my country?" Are we electing someone who's morally upright or are we electing someone who's competent? Is our country going to give up a talented individual because of his/her affairs which has nothing to do with their ability to govern?

So there is the debate that should they as politicians lose their job with this scandal? Does being an adulterer affect their work? Yes. The answer is yes.
There was a study done in 2019 that linked marital infidelity with professional misconduct. Also when your job is a politician. your core value should be integrity and honesty especially in a democratic society which values transparency above all else and obviously, being an adulterer means you do not possess those traits in the first place.

Both political parties MP 'kinky' activity is kicked into high gear now, getting ready for coming election. There is no short of extra- juicy political drama production in the year 2023 for Singaporeans. 🤣😁Undoubtedly it is an exciting year in Singapore.

I agree with Jon Chua on this. I don’t think we can risk losing talent in Singapore because we are a small country that desperately needs good governance. I think this incident may even cause younger people from even going into politics in the first place because their lives would be under such intense scrutiny. Adultery isn’t ideal and it is very harming to the families involved but at it’s core, it isn’t a crime. I personally would rather have an excellent policy maker and politician who commits adultery than a sub-par politician who is loyal to his wife. The well being of the country comes first and this is even more important with a small and vulnerable country like Singapore who cannot afford to have bad governance

On the point of role models and the people giving them "power", Ryan (and other Social Media Personalities) - they used the platform(s) available to showcase their works, and results in a transaction of support for enticing works that aligns with their liking; they weren't chosen by the public - i.e. there is no election process. That said, it is a bonus if said persons have good moral attributes too, but it'd be naive to view that the people were the ones that gave said influencers the power and hence expect them to be worthy of being a role model.
On the other hand, the same cannot be said for politicians - they were given a vote of support through a deliberate act of election - which results in decisions that would affect their (electorate's) lives. Hence, I reckon it's only fair that politicians (regardless of affliations) are held accountable (within reasonable limits).
