My brothers, Don't do what he did. If you got a few days worth of beard, trim it down with the back piece (that's what it's there for) than use the foil on the now shorter hair. It will be much quicker and more comfortable! Pro Tip!
Sure thing. But I take it as an experiment how it goes without trimming the hair first.
Definitely was an experiment. lol. I thought I was pretty clear in the video I was testing to see if it could. 🤷🏽♂️
Bro, been in 12 years and as a black man unfortunately I just thought having bumps with shaving was life. Really appreciate this video.
No problem bro. I hope it helps. 🙌🏽🙌🏽

safety razor also works
@Zack-xz1ph The absolute best, only thing closer is a straight razor which takes lots of practice.
@@ljohnson9440safety razors still bump me up 😭 a sad life
Thank you for this video. I was contemplating which one to buy. You made that decision clear. Thank you fo your service
Good video, I just got the 5 series a couple months ago for $79 at the BX. Saw the 9 series is $50 off for $149 at Costco this Friday. Definitely getting it now. I've had same experience with the 5 as you do in your video... it's good, only after going over and over on the same area.
Thank you for your service! As a not black man, and maybe related to your bump problem, is that I can tell you one thing I loved about switching to the Braun razors was no more in-grown beard hairs.... and my Braun never 'bites' like my old norelco did if I was rushing.
Does it nick you at all? I had a Norelco as well and it would pull and leave little cuts all over my face. It was just a cheapo on that I used about a decade ago, so I’m hoping that they’ve gotten better since then.
@@eclipsetuner99 I had recent top Norelco, and it bites still. It seems, like it's just a signal to change the razor. But Braun 9 Pro bites me once or twice in 2 months as well. Still, I like Braun more.
Thanks was looking into the 5 or 6 .. but u convinced me the 5 is just as good thank u
My series 5 is still going strong after all these years. Your video is very informative. I'm keeping an eye out for the series 9 at a reasonable price.
$150 at Costco, but it's the last day than goes up to $200
My series 5 cost me $79 on Amazon delivered today. Your not comparing apples to apples
Hey, i just bought series 5 for my did since he cant use normal razors due to heart surgery medicine, but he tells me that the machine doesnt shave, any tips for first time shaving?
@@saeddiab98 the thing about the series 5 was it was marketed to black men back then and I picked it up from a cool Mom and Pop store that was Black owned in Philly. The owners were cool and would have replacement foils that had a hexagon pattern that were supposed to prevent razor bumps and such (wasn't a problem I had tho). Of course the shop closed right before the pandemic. I've been using the Cut Buddy for about 4 months and I'm very pleased. It's not that expensive and you can pick it up at Target's and Wal-Mart. Works best if you use it everyday. Good luck.
The 5 looks like it did a better job. It might didn't feel like it to you but it sure looks better.
FYI guys applying a good pre-electric shaving gel really does help your skin and facial hair.
Fire information 🔥🔥🔥brother!!!
Thank you for the vid, very helpful!
Very useful and informative. Thanks for the vid
No problem at all. 🤙🏽
Great video Sir. Thank you.
Great video. Very helpful
I'm retired AF myself. We couldn't have electrics in basic. I have a 3 series. I like it but it has good days and bad. I have places on my neck like you that are tough to get. I may upgrade to a 5 series. Best of luck in your Career.
Get manscape
Looking great with the moustache Jody. Hoping to see it again soon?
I use the series 3 pro love it Braun makes good shavers.
I have been a wet shaver most of my life using some great DE razors and vintage SE razors but my passion is straight razor shaving. I began having many problems with that type of shave and grew out a beard. I carefully honed my favorite straight razor and promptly remove my beard. The only problem was my chin, when done it was bright red so I'm looking for other alternatives. I may suggest to some of the guys to shave after you get out of the shower or use a hot towel applied to the fact to soften the beard before shaving..
9 Series is my fave.
yeah the demo of the shavers is cool and all, but can we just take a minute and appreciate the jaws on this man. shit so sharp he could cut a AAA steak with them.
Sussy😂
I'm in the air force and I suffer from razor bumps as well, but when you use the braun shaver, do you use it everyday/morning like the air force wants? or like every few days etc?
Bought the 5 today and used my regular cremo shaving cream along with it. Afterwards it feels great and not irritated at all. Still used the andis t-blade to edge the mustache because the included blade sort of pulled. Great buy so far 🤝🏽. Appreciate the review
Glad you like it. 💪🏽
Ayee, nice self cut system. I also cut my own hair been saving a ton of money that way and is a good skill to have 👌
I save a ton of money with that
The Series 5 still works especially well having purchased in 2017. In the video I didn't see much difference between the results of the 5 and the 9. Both sides looked clean and smooth.
Thanks the video; I just ordered the series 5 because I can’t deal with the bumps.
Thanks.
As just a man thanks for this video
No problem at all bro.
You should be openminded about using shaving cream and shaving while in the shower. Speeds things up by a lot.
Black hair changes everything thanks for your suggestion though
Thanks
TY Jody! Goin with the Braun 9 pro gotta keep my bald dome tight
Ayeee. Is this Freddy from Hurlburt Field??
TBH, the 5 did a much better job on your face. Assuming equal time with each razor, the shave made by 5 was much closer
Don’t know if it’s sold in the US but the Philips Oneblade does a good job for the price.
i just wanna say...thank you for your shaving. _JC
Thank you for this I'm going to get the 9 series right now lol
I hope you like it as much as I do. 🙌🏽
use either magic shave or use edge up clippers
did u replace the blade for the series 5 do a fair comparison?
Been thinking about getting the new Braun Series 9 Pro…..have you used it yet??
Jody i have a quick question.. Is it possible to buy/pay monthly for a House and utilities as a Single Airmen?
Wet shaving with shaving cream works best for me
That difference in power was real 🤣
That's 2 weeks? Man you lucky, I'm looking like that 3 days after I shave with a razor.
Can you put shaving cream on when using this or is it best to dry shave and put some type of bump control on after shaving
I write from Italy , the Braun 5 series we have here is different .. it came out in 2020 but it is different from the one in the video 🤔
Your hair cut clean af bro 😅
Ayeee. My guy. I had just cut it right before I did the shaving review. Appreciate the love bro. 💪🏽💪🏽
I wonder how good this works for body hair not just face 🤔.
Have you ever tried using manscape!?
This is truly one of my fears of joining, how OFTEN do you shave? Because after ONE I’m hurting the next day. Please help I don’t want something this small to stop me.
I pair my s5 with a fx3 👌🏾
Also what’s the difference between the numbers on the 5 is one more power
As a black man, I had a negative experience using the 5 for the for time, but I'll try again after watching this. It's just hard finding something that doesn't damage my skin
My tips are not to press too hard, and also use a good moisturizing after shave. If that doesn’t help, you might have one of those face that no matter what you do, you’ll get bumps.
Update. I used it again and it wasn't too bad. I had to go over my face several times, but I eventually was able to cut a good portion before having to use the mini shaver on the back to get the stubborn hairs. I'll try using shaving cream and see if it helps. The first time I used it, I might have pressed too hard and got bumps. Dry might be the way to go for me
@Titanusphoenix after you're done shaving try using some tendskin for irritation
@@Titanusphoenix how was using it with the shaving cream?
For basic do you recommend these or norelco one blade??
Army guy here, I always get bumps when shaving with a normal razor especially multiple days in a row. Just got the 9 today hopefully it helps.
How did it work ?
@@HunchoTheDon it’s been working great! Very close shave and it doesn’t make my face feel sensitive and red. I believe the self cleaner is a big part of it too. Hope this helps.
So no more ingrowns ?
@@BSRBenLadenSTOP USING RAZOR. I switched from a razor to just the Braun series 3 310s and I no longer get shaving bumps. Unbelievable. I will buy the Braun series 5 or 9 because even though I don't get bumps with the current one I have, it's very slow to shave.
@@Wingerella I don’t use razor bro I’m 21 I use trimmers and foil shaver but the foil shaver always break me out I use the same ones the barbers be getting like I got the Andis one now and man it breaks me out every time.
Hey there are there tech schools for officers?
What’s a good one to have that’s not electric…I don’t want to have to worry about razor bumps in basic training but if electric is the best I may just get it
I tried a the bump fighter razor at wal mart before. A lot of black men say it does good for them, but even that bumped me up. I would say try it and see how it works on your skin first. If you get bumps, electric will probably be the best way to go.
@@Jodywithawhy ok thx 🙏🏾
Get a safety razor and learn it.
300...I'll wait😢
Are we not gonna address how clean your cut is??? I need your barber!
☺️☺️☺️. You always come with top tier compliments. 💪🏽💪🏽
After youve shaved dry and got rid of most of the growth, try some shaving gel and finish of with a wet/electric shave, then youll be smooth I promise! Love my series 9 !!!
Never tried that. I will definitely give it a try.
@@Jodywithawhy oh man trust me its a great improvement. "this electric razor is also 100% waterproof and can be used with foam, gel or even under the shower."
@@Jodywithawhy I think you have a new video idea there, dry vs wet shave wwith your series 9
why dont we get a shaving allowance? that gets expensive
Not sure if you mentioned it but how long does the AF give you to shave? I know using electric can take longer. But being black myself I can NOT put a razor to my face. I’ll pump up something crazy.
They want you done pretty quick. I would say 5 minutes at most in basic. Once you graduate you can take as long as you want. Anyone recently gone through basic who could answer this more accurate??
I would say that you get maybe 5 minutes to shave during bmt but usually you definitely won’t have enough time to shave properly. I never had any issues with bumps from shaving but during bmt I started getting them. They will give you a shaving waiver though but they have to see the bumps when you go to the appointment.
Thanks Sean. 🤙🏽
If you have problems with razor bumps, i would try the Philips Norelco One Blade. It doesn't cut as close as the Braun or a traditional razor but you'll still be in regs without irritation
@@seangehrke2913yeah i got a shaving waiver before i even left reception 😂 not but my drill sgt even recommended me to go on Day 1 and then a care lady grabbed me out of the sick call line as she was walking thru.

I’m glad I could help. Hopefully you find a razor that works well for you.
just picked up the series 6 with the dock/cleaner for 99...hopefully its decent
How's it been for you?
Hello, are there currently any sign on bonuses for linguistics?
Yes there are. This video explains all the bonuses. ruclips.net/video/_Y71r5CMVGo/видео.html
I have the 9 pro too. Great shaver. Question, I'm heading to BMT April 2...can I take and use this shaver with me while I'm there?
You can take it. From what I hear there’s a mixed review on if the TIs are ok with it. Every TI I ask if they’re ok, they all say yes. But some of the recent graduates comment in my comments that their TI told them to put it away. So I just recommend bringing it, but also bring a razor and blade just in case.
@@Jodywithawhy awesome! Thank you
Are there new specifications for BAH if you live off bsse? Has BAS gone up?
BAS is $406 a month, but while in dorms the member doesn’t see that money because they have dining facility access for free.
BAH varies from zip code to zip code, but this new year we’re supposed to receive a big raise from what I hear.
As for me i enjoyed watching how ur doing it
Thank you. 🤙🏽
have you tried rotary shavers? supposed to be better for curly hair that grows in different directions than foil shavers which are supposed to be better for straight hair that all grows in the same direction.
I tried the norelco before and it cause as many bumps as a blade. The only thing that worked for me was the Braun.
@@Jodywithawhy have you tried the Norelco 9000 prestige. It's amazing and cased les irritation for me.
Does the five give you a good close shave or leave it prickly
One thing to remember is neither one of these will give you a blade feel. Both will shave close, but not blade smooth. Which is why I like it, because it’s close enough to look clean, but not close enough to cause bumps.
Good video....is it true that women who are pregnant can now join the usaf? Do you know? Have you heard anything about this?
Good content
I haven’t heard that. You know I get all the latest news, but man I haven’t heard that.
Do you get any irritation from the blades when shaving dry? On either series’
I don’t. I honestly feel like I get more irritation when shaving wet.
@AF_Recruiting_Jodywithawhy am the same I feel like when shave wet with the bruan I get more skin irratition but don't when dry

I'm interested in growing a stubble beard (wife's request) instead of the clean close shave military look I have now. Will any of these products work for that purpose without price$$ overkill considering I won't be close shaving anymore? Pls advise, thnx in advance‼️
Maybe a (newer type) Braun 7 series with trimmer piece might be a good joice for you then. The 5 and 9 are more aimed toward getting a close shave I think
@@doubtingguy6922 thanks
I think you should have use some shaving cream
You should make full videos of you shaving and lining up your mustache without music like I like when I hear the sound of the trimmer and show preparation and stuff like that
Hello Jody,
I just wanted to start of by saying your Channel has been a blessing to me and I am grateful for how much it has helped me! I have been doing a ton of research on USAF and I genuinely want to enlist as a Special Reconnaissance or TACP as soon as possible! However, when I went to a recruit I was told I can’t get those jobs because I don’t have a citizenship yet and I would have to apply for it through enlisting as a civilian or a US soldier. So I wanted to ask what is the best way of getting that job? Because that’s my dream; to be in the USAF Special Warfare. As of right now I have 2 ways of going about it:
1. Apply for a citizenship and wait for then upon receiving it, enlisting in AF as soon as possible.
OR
2. Enlist in short-term contract and try to change a job to the Special Warfare… OR Wait for the contract to be over and Reenlist as Special Warfare once the contract is over and I have my citizenship.
So which one would be best for me and allow me to get out of the military without serving excessive years?
Because I would like to do no more than 6 Years of service (preferably) to go to college and do other things early in my life. I would like to also note that I heard some people not being accepted to transfer jobs or branches and others not accepted to be in USAF despite keeping a clean sheet and having all the requirements met. So hearing that, what do you recommend?
Thank you very much for your Service,
I've been in the USAF for 10+ years and we are not the experts in how to get certain jobs. We have experts in this field and they are recruiters. They are specifically trained to answer these questiions that us normal USAF people don't know.
I am not and have never been Air Force. I joined the Marines to do a very similar job. So first, keep pushing to make it happen. You won't regret it.
As for the question, there are people far more qualified than I am to answer. But I am going to offer my thought.
Think about the worst case scenario. You could talk to a recruiter and be told that you can change jobs once you get your citizenship or at the end of your first enlistment. However rules like that can change. The Air Force could decide that the job you have is vital and undermanned and tell you that you can't change. The command of spec ops could change and decide they don't want to accept someone from outside the community. Or any other scenario that can be dreamed up. Only thing we can say for certain about the future is that we don't know what's coming.
If your main goal is to serve, go sign up and take your chances. But if TACP is the do or die goal take care of all of the requirements before you sign up. That's the way to insulate yourself from rule changes.
That machine does harm?
neck looks more red with the 9. Dunno if this means it's more aggressive on the skin.
I had just finished that side when I did the comparison. I guess to make that fair, you would have to look at my skin when I finished with the 5 and compare.
Have you ever gotten a food allergy waiver approved
So my recruiter has mentioned you wont be allowed to bring electric to bmt. Is this true or depends? Appreciate any info. Thanks in advance
Just got my answer. Sry. Other question is is there a specific guideline if these trimmers aren't available?
You can bring an electric shaver. Just be aware of the limited charge times for it.
No guidelines, just bring something that won’t take up too much space, and is easy to present in a neat and organized manner.
Thank you soo much. This question was killing me, I suck at shaving but luckily i been blessed with not much facial hair in my genetics but better to be safe than sorry. Appreciate it
@@kubrah779 If you want a small electric shaver look up Braun Electric Razor M60B it runs on batteries no charging which is better in my opinion since you won’t have to worry about charging it at bmt, on Amazon for $15
Was your shaving profile Service connected?
I’m still in so I don’t know yet. If I were to get a rating, I’m sure the most they can give is 10%.
@@Jodywithawhy okay
Quick Question I have a friend that just asked what is age limit for active duty? Is there a waiver if your over the age and never been in the military, is there a age limit if she wanted to join the reserve and never been in the military.
I’m having trouble getting my neck. I still have hairs at the end with my series 9
You may have to use the clippers that are attached to it. That’s how I go about those difficult hairs.
Is it as smooth as shaving with a regular razor tho?
Not as smooth, but close. That’s why I like it, because it gets close but not close enough to cause bumps.
Please do your research ; foil shavers are stubble shavers only . End of discussion .
I been using the Series 3…but have a few bumps under my neck….
I will say you’re never 100% bump free especially if you bump up pretty easily. I would recommend using the bump patrol after every shave, that stuff works pretty good.
I have the 3 also, but its not powerful enough for a 2 day shave, i only use it for touching up, or max 1 day shave, you will need more power for a real shave. I use the panasonic arc 3 or phillips series 5 and above., or braun 5 and above. Ive tried most of them including remingtons and have come tot he conclusion that Braun, Phillips, and Panasonic are best. but definately need power series 5 and above for great shaves. except Panasonic, the Arc3 has a lot of power.
braun series 9 is 700$ in my country 💀
got myself braun series 5 for 150$ on black frieday sale
Do this leave a dark cast?
If you seen his other video, you can see it gets it lighter than clippers
Nah the series 9 doesn’t cut clean for me always leaves patches of long hair unless my beard is really short maybe a day-2 day growth
What do you recommend?
Man, you're neck was tore up from both razors, especially the Series 9. I switched from an electric razor to the Gillette Skinguard and I no longer suffer from skin irritation, razor bumps or ingrown hairs. And it gives me a closer shave than any electric razor can.
Totally agree. Skinguard is the only razor I will use. Others may be closer, but the cuts and bumps aren't worth it.
His neck was tore up because he did not use as designed. My Series 9 Pro is designed for up to 7 days growth. I would not push it past that. One cannot expect good results if not used as intended.
Can this be taken to BMT?
Yes it can.
I have braun series 5 and I am sick of it. Very slow and irritating! Going back blades
Can you use this on your head?
You can. It’ll shave your head just fine.
