I use the Braun Series 9 to shave in the Air Force - No BUMPS

- This is how I shave to avoid razor bumps in the Air Force. Being a black man, I've dealt with shaving bumps for years. I tried special blades, special creams, and none of it worked. That's until I discovered the Braun series 9 (amzn.to/3wjdsCZ). Actually I started out with the Braun Series 5 (amzn.to/3vk2ID2), but I eventually worked my way up to the Braun series 9. I am not on a shaving waiver, with no religious reasons why I cannot shave, so I have to shave my face everyday. This thing changed my life. I don't get bumps anymore. It is a little expensive, but it's definitely worth every penny to protect your face from the burn.
I created a video where I compared the Braun Series 5 to the 9. You can watch here. • Braun Series 5 vs 9 Af...

I’ve been in AF 29 yrs and will retire next year. I was using the Series 3 for five years then watched this video. Upgraded to the Series 9 Pro…game changer. Keep up the great videos 🇺🇸
😵💫29 yrs!!! Yes it’s time to enjoy the fruits of your labor!!! Congratulations 🍾 🎉
Your channel is a treasure. Just started shaving and did it completely wrong. Broke out baddd. Shipping out in a few months and knowing which option will leave me with no bumps is relieving to me. I’m going to practice using all this before going, THANK YOU!!
I use to have a shaving profile in the army. Now that I’ve switched to electric shaver, I no longer have problems. Been spreading this to other brothas as well. Thanks!
Thank you so much for that vid currently suffering razor bumps at the moment. Being in the Marine Corps myself you already know the vibes. Really appreciate this video my brother.
No problem good Sir. If you get it, I hope it helps you as much as it helped me. 💪🏽
Did this help w your razor bumps?
Best way to stop razor bumps is to use a very slick shave cream/gel, and then after you shave apply an aftershave lotion with a moisturizer in it. I was getting really bad razor bumps for years until I finally started using quality shave gel and aftershave without alcohol. The razor bumps come from having thick hair that gets trapped under the skin, or the tip of the hair splits and irritates dry skin. The shave lotion softens the skin so that the hairs can easily break thru.

Just saw the video, you got me really excited to see my results. I’ve been researching like crazy to find a solution. I’m actually in BLET right now and have to shave everyday, and my face and neck is terribly broken out, I’ve tried so many different things. I tried the double edge safety razor because I heard it helps and found out it does me no good either. After watching your video I felt such a relief to hear that I’m not the only one who has struggled with this. The only method I haven’t tried is an electric razor. I actually ordered the Braun 9 before I watched this video and all you did was make me more eager to receive my purchase. Thanks for the information.
No problem at all. I hope it works for you as well as it does for me. This is my go to shaver. Good luck with yours and thanks for the support. 🤙🏽
Thank you! My little brother hates facial hair and has been struggling with razor bumps since six years ago, having tried most trimmers he's given up and accepts having stubble - I'm going to surprise him with that Braun Series 9, thanks a lot!
Ayeee. I’m glad I could help. I hope it works out for him like it helped me. 🙌🏽🙌🏽
If he still has issues try a Double Edge Safety Razor. If you or he research what causes razor bumps and how a double-edge safety razor works, you'll see why.
A good alternative is the Philips Norelco OneBlade, but daily shaving costs will equal the same as the Series 9 over time. If you want to see how let me know, and I’ll comment on the numbers explaining exactly how.
Each progression in shaving had me weak, and I definitely caught the references lol I am in the fire service and feel the struggle of consistently having to shave & have purchased a Braun 9 as well and have to share how much I also love it. Sure makes it easy and quick! I have never had bumps on the face, but I use it to shave my head and the back of my neck gets pretty irritated at times. Definitely was worth the investment. I use a DE for the face now (braun will miss a few hairs on my neck), and Braun for the head! Good video thanks for sharing
I was just wondering how people shave everyday without getting out the shaving cream. This is so timely!!
I've been struggling with razor bumps for years without knowing thats what it was. Thank you!
Glad I could help. 🙌🏽
Brother I just came across your channel, I liked and absolutely subscribed!!!
Thanks a ton for giving me options to avoid bumping up as a black man!!!
I'm mixed and with my hair texture I have so many problems with shaving so I'm watching men's videos now, so glad you mentioned the part about the razor bumps due to the coarse hair. Side comment you have really good teeth!
Solid video! I appreciate you taking the time to pass along these tips.
No problem at all. 🤙🏽
THIS VIDEO WAS MADE TWO YEARS AGO AND YOU STILL SAVING PEOPLES LIVES IN 2024. Man... First off I've been watching your videos like crazy to help me out with my new journey in life. I was so worried about this situation because I'm new. and trying my best to get into the air force. But all I was thinking about is, "man know I this razor burn is going to be crazy and hurt like H,E double hockey sticks." because it's hurting AS I TYPE RIGHT NOW LOL! I was thinking about getting a wavier but I felt like getting it checked to revalidate the card was going to be a drag. And basic training is going to be a pain as well. With this product I should be set!
Hopefully man. It worked for me with no problems. I would say this though, getting that shaving waiver is usually as simple as telling a doctor you need a shaving waiver. Most of them don’t make you do the extra stuff required, they just take your word for it. At least that’s been my experience. Either way good luck. 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Thank you for this recommendation Jody!! This is honestly going to change my life too!
I really hope so man. It did for me.
Mike Epps coming with the shaving tutorials, respect! I'm looking to get the Braun to avoid these bumps. I want a clean shave. Thanks again for the vid
Thanks for the helpful review for guys who suffer with bumps and irritation.
I think your review might be the one that tips me over into getting this thing. I've only started getting razor bumps and bad irritation in the last couple of years when my trusty Mach 3 I'd been using for many years started to cause problems. I really have tried pretty much everything else these last two years and nothing has worked. Tried DEs, both razors from Leaf shave, Henson razor, Broman razor, Gillette skinguard, Gillette heated razor, Philips oneblade. Tried various creams, soaps, brushes, lengthy face prep, cold water shaving, pre shave oils, shaving oil, bump gels. None seem to work for me, some even seem to make things worse, and I get a mix of bumps, pain, burn and/or irritation every time.
So this has to be worth a go at least. I am hoping and praying it could be the final stop on my shaving journey for now. I love the feel of a really smooth shave and actually enjoy the whole vibe of wet shaving and wet shaving products, but if I have to sacrifice that for something that's close-ish but is pain and irritation free then I'm willing to give it a go.
Definitely not a “smooth” shave, but it’s close. About as close as I can get before I bump. Which is why I’m a big advocate for it. Hopefully you find as much satisfaction in it as I have. Good luck. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
@@Jodywithawhy Thanks man, fingers crossed. It was either the Braun or the Panasonic Arc 5 which by all accounts gets closer but some reviewers report it causing razor burn and irritation which is a no no!
@@Jodywithawhy Yeah I want that clean look but not too close that it causes irritation. I don't mind the slight stubble as I'll will shave at least every other day.. Thanks for the vid. All the best to the commentor here.
@@Jodywithawhy An update that I went for the Braun in the end and am having really good results with it. There was a learning curve at first and I have given myself irritation at times by going a little hard with it, but the difference between this and shaving with a blade are just night and day. I generally use it wet, using a sensitive face wash then a sensitive shave gel. That for me has been the best at getting a nice smooth shave and minimising any irritation. Yes it's not as close as a traditional wet shave but with shaving irritation reduced about 95%, it's absolutely 100% been worth it!
Thanks for the update. Great stuff. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Thank you very much. I’m tired off all this hair left over on my face after I’m done shaving. I have a braun but it’s pretty old and bottom of the line. The 9 is too expensive for me, so I’ll check out the 5.

ended up getting one but sadly, still gives lots of tiny red bumps on my neck :(
I did find if I use my oneblade, and use no pressure at all, it leaves stubble but no irritation. Guess ill just stick to doing that.
Wonderful advice yet unfortunately when checking Amazon it seems that Aftershave is no longer in production. I asked on one of my accounts if they'll start back up with production/selling soon, fingers crossed man.
Gonna give this a try. Thanks for sharing

Anybody else struggle with getting the Braun 900 to remove hairs in a single stroke? I've shaved over the same spot 15 times and still can't pick up some stray hairs. CRAZY!
You need to do a video on the Braun series 9 foils, there are three different kind, 92s,94m and 92b.
what do you recommend for someone that never shaved going into basic as a blackman that has sensitive skin on the face?
Ima try this. I’m active duty & man the razor burn from regular razors gets me..
Have you tried a double-edge safety razor? Start with a single pass with the grain. Then once your skin is bump-free, then move to a second pass across the grain. For the closest shave you can add a third pass against the grain but it's not necessary and may cause the shaving bumps if you have curly/course facial hair.
Yep. I’ve tried the Bevel. Bumped me up pretty good. It had a whole kit too, to help prevent bumps. But anytime I put a blade on my face, I bump up. The only thing I had success with was the Braun. Wasn’t my first electric razor either. Probably my 3rd one, but once I found it, I’ve been faithful.
@@Jodywithawhy A preshave and a good shaving soap like Proraso will give you a nice cushion on your skin. But, if you've found what works for you, then no need to look further.
@@Jodywithawhy I've never heard of the Bevel. A good razor like a Merkur 34C or Muhle R89 is what I recommend to start with.
@@Freddels1 razor bumps are definately better than cartridge razors. But if you're black and have curly hair, then it is still game over for you unfortunately. And i only ever did one pass with the grain and never across or against. But still managed to get razor bumps. The only thing that truly worked for me was an electric trimmer.
@@COLDoCLINCHER37 which electric trimmer do you use if you dont mind me asking
I suffer from razor bumps too, My skin is terribly sensitive!!! I cannot use a ton of products on the market because of harsh chemicals and fragrance.... I use mostly Aveeno, Dove, Cetaphil, CeraVe etc... Note I did buy Braun series 9 and I absolutely love it, I do use a de safety razor as well....
How's that Braun series 9 working for you? Still love it? I'm thinking about getting it but the price is a shocker but if I don't get bumps it will be worth it.
What up Jody. I’m in deps right now. Am I able to take some sort of electric trimmer to bmt? I’ve been trying to shave every other day to get my face use to shaving. Preciate the vids bro.
Yea man. You can take electric shavers to basic training. If it’s better on your face, i definitely recommend it. 💪🏽

The cream to me is the most important part. That stuff keeps your face moisturized and smooth. I definitely recommend it or something like it.
And Brody even does a clean cut with it good review
No problem bro 🤙🏽
Can you actually bring an electric shaver like this to BMT? I’ve never used a razor in my life and I’m worried I would tear my face up and then have to go through the long process of getting a shaving waiver
They are allowed bro. I wish I knew that before I joined. 💪🏽
You won’t be able to bring any clippers though. The good thing about the braun is it has a T trimmer on the back that you can use to trim down any hair. When you get to tech school, you can have clippers though.
@@Jodywithawhy Can you bring this shaver to BMT?
Yep. This is allowed.
@@Jodywithawhy no cap fam? cause this is like literally my biggest fear bro i'm just like you i get torn TF UP from a normal blade, i always used jawns like this. everyone trying to tell me i can't use this type of stuff in BMT. i'm about to order this RIGHT NOW if so bro
I’m mad bc when I was deployed I had ordered the series 3 but that thang is trash so I never even use it. I might have to invest in the 5 or 9 bc I’m tired of having bumps
What are the biggest differences between the series 5 and 9? Noticeable difference in closeness of the shave?
It’s honestly really hard to tell the subtle differences. I guess the 9 does glide over my hair a bit better, but it wasn’t like the 5 didn’t do it’s job. They’re both solid.
14 yrs into AF as well. You just convinced me to spend 330$ lol. Thanks for the video

I recommend the Arc 5 for sensitivity
I see so many different prices for the series 9 , I'm confused from 80 to 350$
Excellent!
The shave serum for bumps has been sold out. What else do you use or recommend?
Oh no. I honestly don’t know. I don’t wanna steer you in the wrong direction and recommend something I don’t actually use. That’s crazy this sold out. Now I gotta find something else.
Is the Braun Series 3 any good?
i use this in the shower with cremo.. it feels like i used a safety razor when i’m done
Can you make a tutorial on how to oil it ?
is this still your shaver of choice? i bump up incredibly easy but hoping to find a solution do you use any aftershaves or exfoliate? thanks!
I use this shaver religiously. It’s the only thing that helped my bumps. This has been my most successful shaving tool, but I’ve seen others who still breakout even after using this. So I guess it’s not a one size fits all kinda thing, and varies from face to face.
I do use an aftershave called era organics after shave, but I think they discontinued selling it. That stuff was top notch.
@@Jodywithawhy have you replaced era organics w anything else ?
Do you still use this after shave? I looked on the link and it’s not available was just curious if you still use this.
My mans hit em with the holla holla holla! 😂😂😂
Lol. 😂😂
Thanks for the review. The cleaning stations always seemed like a complete gimmick and just a company trying to upsell the consumer. Why not just use soapy water and let it dry? Replace it at ~1.5 years or so.
Im curious if this will provide a close enough shave while in BMT, or will I get chewed out and still have to use a razor to get as close of a shave as possible?
This is close enough. The MTI’s understand that some people have to shave with electric razors, so you shouldn’t have any issues.
@@Jodywithawhy Okay great. Really appreciate your timely reply!

Dinwiddie in the face
(Edit)
I shaved with a blade when I was younger and got some bumps so I like my clippers. Are yall allowed clippers after BMT?
He said Dinwiddie. Lol. Yes you’re allowed clippers after basic. I used clippers for a long time while serving. I just had a huge 5:00 shadow by the end of the day. This is the closest I can get before bumping up.
Hahaha like our time in the Army Waiver all day everyday them bumps was atrocious. Tried the trimmers, clippers, razors, scissors… skin was bad bad
Mannn. I swear. Lol. 😂
Can you bring your own clippers to bmt?
How long can you wait before shaving again to avoid irritating and bumbing the skin? once every 3 days will work? or once a week?
I shave everyday with this.
@@Jodywithawhy That is great. This might be the solution I was looking for.
Good video. Did you try magic shave the blue and grey can? Lol...it smells......Good content.
I tried that before. I tried the norelco and some expensive blades. All of it bumped me up. Lol.
So the t-outliners aren't allowed only the electric shaver ?
In basic training, yes you’re only allowed the electric shaver. But after basic, you can have your t-liners. The cool thing about the braun is it has a t-liner built in to the shaver.
lol rocking the spoon stash like I’m in the 80s-90s
You see it. 😂😂
havent used a razor blade on my face since teen years. I use Andis T Outliners for my entire face and neck. No bumps.
Can I reply Andis with this so I can use one thing for face and head? or have you seen bumps come back because it cuts to close on the face?
*replace
I used andis for years as well. Just wasn’t getting close enough, and I would have a heavy 5:00 shadow. I will say with andis, I rarely got any bumps, but with the Braun I get a few bumps from time to time. Just less than any other shaver/blade I’ve ever used. If you want a closer shave, these are great. If you’re ok with the shadow, can’t beat the andis.
@@Jodywithawhy thanks!
Can I just clean shave weekly with the Series 9 without using the Wahl trimmer? I don't have a big beard. I've been using the Andis T-Outliner to shave but I've been getting bumps and dark spots. I'm Black with coarse hair, btw.
They do have a t-trimmer installed into the shaver, so you would be able to use that.
Series 9 Pro you can do up to 7 days, I personally have only gone 4 days and it had no issues. The regular Series 9 says 3 days. Sure you could probably push it more, but I would imagine you would wear out the blades faster since its not designed for more.
Did you feel like having a shaving waiver would have a negative impact on your career as you moved up in the ranks?
I personally do, which is why I got off mine. I hate to give that advice though, because it’s an opinion I have, which I can’t prove.
Definitely will.. I made SSG in the Army before switching over to Officer (LT) I’m almost positive my packet wouldn’t have gotten accepted if they seen a 21111 PULHES on my ERB meaning I have a permanent shaving profile..his video is a BIG HELP
Can you adjust the shaving depth on the Braun 9?
Not that I know of. 🤷🏽♂️ i think it’s just one stage that’s not adjustable
Are you using this every day or only when enough hair on your face grows back?
Everyday. I grow hair fast. Lol
Have you ever used the Panasonic ARC5 shaver?
Not recommended for sensitive skin. I am trying out an Arc 6 and while I would not consider my skin sensitive, it did give me irritation. The 6 is considered to me more friendly than the 5.
Brilliant review mate, will 100% be buying one 👍🏻
Awesome. I hope it works for you as great as it does for me. 🙌🏽
Holla Holla Holla 😂😂😂, I send allot of your videos to my son, he's DEP now.

I have a question. So after I shave with the Braun S9 whenever I put on the (After Shave Serum) do I use the (After Shave Serum) everyday? Even if I don’t shave everyday?
I only use it after the shave. Some people use it everyday, I personally don’t and don’t see the need.
@@Jodywithawhy okay, so like the day after I shave or any other day, just use moisturizer or leave my shaved beard blank? But the After Shave Serum isn’t needed
Right. Your daily moisturizer should be just fine on days you didn’t shave.

What about the manscape 3.0? Water proof shaver? Thoughts
I honestly don’t know. I’ve never used it, so I wouldn’t be able to give a good opinion.
I don’t like the fact that you had to cut your hair so short before using it if I had it that low I would just go ahead and use a razor. After that then I would use this like every other day
The neck is a tough to shave tho no, I got a Braun too but neck is tough to get the spots
Does the Air Force have personal trainers??…if so are they free with joining the military or is there a fee we have to pay?
They have trainers on some bases. As far as free I’m not sure honestly. I’ve never used them, nor do I know anyone who has. I do know we have free access to the gyms, and they have free exercise classes on base as well, (spin cycle, Zumba, strength and cardio classes etc..) for free.

Electric razors never get a close enough shave for me
This one gets close man. I’ll say this, it gets just close enough to where my skin doesn’t bump up.
I used this and it gave me bumps man, what do I do?
Your face may be too sensitive. I’d recommend getting some after shave and also make sure you do a thorough face exfoliation at night. You can do that with a buf puf sponge, or something similar. If that doesn’t fix it, you might wanna shave 3-4 days instead of daily. I hope that helps.
You look more handsome after shaving.
it’s called the flavor saver 😏
This actually made my skin worse to the point i now have severe folliculitis barber and damaged folliculitis all over my scalp.
Ahh man. I’d recommend not to use it any more. Have you had success with any shaver in the past?
Black men have adult acne. I tweezed my husband's face at night when he was in his twenties. I added a facial scrub, witch hazel, and bump stopper.
My wife used to tweeze my face too. Lol
Thank your for sacrificing your face. Got to get it. lol
