    Got a set of these for my Civic Type R FK8. The FK8 has known overheating issues on track and in hot weather, 85-100F, we would get maybe 2 laps in a time trial event before we had to back off. After installing did an event at PittRace in August 90 degree weather and for the first time we could run full sessions in the car, and we had dual drivers over the weekend event. Best bang for your buck to keep those temps under control in an FK8.

    When it rains or snow does hood luovers actually potentially damage the engine?

      Most engine bays are pretty waterproof. But, you'll want to make sure your louver isn't directly above the spark plugs, distributor cap, or any other area that can hold a puddle of water around electricals. For example, my car has a kit that relocates the ECU, and that location allows water to pool on the harness connector under the louvers when placed for best airflow. The solution is a simple shield for the water to roll off of when parked. You probably also don't want rain soaking into an open air filter if you have an aftermarket intake. But you should avoid open filters under the hood regardless, simply because that's where all the heat is.

    This may sound odd, but I am looking at putting as pair of split center vents on my 2010 Tahoe. It's not a race car, but when it is triple didget heat In the summer I would love to give the engine as much relief from the heat as it can get when we are running it all day for work. I will also take whatever aero advantages it can give me on the highway as well & hopefully some intake air cooling as well while rolling due to reduced heat soaking of the air box & intake pipe.

    You mentioned front louvers should be front and centered 2 inches from radiator/support, that’s to extract radiator heat.. then you said for mounting further back 20 inches from the rear of the hood, would that extract over all heat? Or 20 inches in front of the back of the hood also flows with the radiator and extracts that heat too? I’m getting 7x11” louvers, and I want to extract heat over the intake on the drivers side, not sure where to mount them. I want to install on my Acura RSX I have a video of the car posted on my channel

      The sweet spot for our extractors is 2-4” behind the rad and not too close to the glass. There is a high pressure zone near the glass and if a vent gets to close air will go in instead of out.

    You said something about going with a lesser louver if you do sides along with the center vent, do you mean if I go with track trim in the center I should go with street trim on the sides?

    • @racelouvers7958
      @racelouvers7958  3 года назад

      Yes but only if the side hood vents are on the extreme side of the hood, if the side hood vents are say 6-8” or so from the side the same performance trim can be used center and side. What car would this be for?

    My car was running over 270 degrees water temperature. I believe that was because of my oil temperature. I'm going to install an oil cooler and looking into these hood louvers.

      @racelouvers7958  4 года назад +1

      what where your oil temps? be careful adding an oil cooler, mounting one traditionally in front of the radiator tends to cool the oil but increase coolant temps as it blocks air to the radiator.

      @@racelouvers7958 thank you for the reply. I have an oil cooler designed for my car and it should be offset to side. I currently have hood side louvers but I want more airflow. I like the center one you guys have. I will be running different oil instead of being ignorant running oem 0w-20. I have 0w-40 and bestline oil treatment I'll run for protection. Please watch my oil and water temperature gauge in my video. I kept letting off to cool down.

      @@334trax2 Ok so your coolant was 245F and your oil was 270F after a long hard session on track. For reference desired/normal hot temps for most track cars are 200-225F coolant and 250-275F oil so I wouldnt bother with the oil cooler. The only downside to hot oil temps is oil thinning with temp, easy fix is thicker oil like your 0w-40. Coolant on the other hand is much more important to keep cool as it can boil over, motor can pull timing or blow a head gasket. So I would concentrate on getting that 245F coolant down to around 220F first. I see you have the verus vents, while they make a decent product they dont work that well, at least slightly better than trackspecs. The issue with the vents are first they are tiny, design isnt great and they are off to the sides. FYI we tested verus, trackspecs, singular and several other vents during our product development, they all worked very similar to one another, so we put a set of trackspecs in the wind tunnel as a reference to our stuff, if you look at any of our wind tunnel data the 'recessed louver' data is in fact a trackspec part, so you can get a real good idea how yours perform, or dont, compared to our stuff. We currently have the VW kits in que and to be released soon. So your thoughts of a serious center extractor is right on, and later on if you need more our side kit could replace the verus ones as ours are much bigger.
