Just done a caye to bkd swap in a 2011 caddy. Van is 2011 engine/ECU is 2004, can i use the coding from the later module on the earlier one? The plugs are the same except the bkd has a lot more equipment hence more wires. Does 2011 have component protection?

no, you have to do all scan in vcds, there is stored the coding for the old module, SAVE IT! Than connect the new one and imput the coding from the old one. For example, my coding is 3D3D2C04C02002. Its different from car to car.

My mechanic thinks my canbus gateway module is shot. If i buy the module with the same part number, would it be plug and play?

It could be Plug and Play but also it could be that the replacement Gateway has to be coded like old one.
