Music always play a big part in monster hunter titles. There is not so much narrative in the games but you can always recognize certain elements which reflects the dynamism of the core gameplay. You are always a hunter (proof a Hero, main theme, Brasses) which fight for your people (a village, in this case Astera) against giant monters (monster with their own themes, characteristic signatures, call and response). It Is really simple but works so well! For example, fatalis theme in this game is so epic since you can tell by music what is transpiring in the battle! (Sorry for my broken english). Nice reaction and track selection!
Pride of a Nameless Hunter to me has always been a song of raw triumph. In the game your hunter does not have a name, they have the name you give them, but in game they are simply called "hunter" or "fiver". This song however is meant to describe what the hunter and hunting relationship is. The game has always placed an emphasis on fighting monsters that are larger than life, and that grant such imposing figures on your human player character, but no matter the size of the problem you always triumph. To hunt monsters, you don't need a name, you don't need to be special. Anyone can simply pick up the controller and play, and with practice anyone can do it. We are the nameless hunter and every fight is our pride. There are so many tracks I wanted to recommend. Fatalis Medley is the most powerful and most in depth track, but my personal favorite has always been "Brutish Indigo". A very powerful track about an intense and explosive duel. Monster Hunter is an actual gold mine for songs and tracks. I would recommend checking them out even if only for casual purposes. Thank you so much for giving this a listen!
I just realized you started doing video game composition reactions! Some songs you should really consider: Gael's Theme - Dark Souls 3 Dark Souls 1 - Gwyn's Theme AND Dark Souls 3 - Soul of Cinder theme (DO THESE BACK TO BACK TRUST ME) Monster Hunter - Proof of a Hero (original version) DOOM - BFG Division Shadow of the Colossus - The Opened Way Midna's Lament - Twilight Princess AND Zelda's Lament - Twilight Princess Pontiff Sulyvahn - Dark Souls 3 Yhorm - Dark Souls 3 Abyss Watchers - Dark Souls 3
Theres so many Legend of Zelda songs he could analyze, but 1000% he would love Twilight Princess's Midna's Lament as well as Skyward Sword's Gate of Time
the segment of 3:05 that feels so disconnected is the original monster hunter theme, so being put into an instrument that evokes emotion like a wind instrument and how it merges back into the monster hunter: world theme is a callback for the old and new binding together. It makes me almost tear up. If you could do an anthology of the monster hunter themes it'd be great. Original Monster Hunter has this sort of "epic song" feel, Monster Hunter 2 is pure "action", Monster Hunter 3 has a song that feels melancholic.
Pride of a Nameless Hunter is kind of the core theme for Monster Hunter: World. If I remember correctly it doesn't get played during many hunts (Basically just specific high difficulty challenge hunts) and instead serves kind of as the player character's theme in cutscenes. The iconic motif through the whole monster hunter series is called "Proof of a Hero" which gets made into a new version for each game. That is the one that gets played during the climax of the final hunt in the game.
Pride of a Nameless Hunter is a mix of the recurring main theme song of Monster Hunter World, the theme song of your home base Astera, and the theme song of the Monster Hunter series as a whole, 'Proof of a Hero.'
I really loved this theme. As a fan of Monster Hunter since a kid, the parts where the original theme plays almost always gets a tear out of me. The entire song gives me chills. It encompasses the joy in adventure, the mystery of the unknown, the tension of combat, the glory of victory, the game that is Monster Hunter...
I'm not a monster hunter fan, infact only played this game, about 400hrs, which may seem like a lot to non gamers, average for people who do play, but one thing that always stood out to me was the art direction , and that includes here how magical the music was.
In general, devs want games to loop because any given player will spend X amount of time in any part of their game. Not only do they ask composers to make their music loop, but they have to factor in the player's wherewithal to enter, stay, & leave, so the tracks are looped as needed and dynamically cut or change according to game states like a boss 2nd phase or a story cut off point that changes the environment, which is baked in the code itself. Naughty Dog did this WILD thing with Jak 2's music where the themes of areas changed when you were fighting on the fly or had your guns out ready to shoot, and it would seamlessly transition in and replace the calmer sounding version of the theme. It was smooth as butter to listen to.
The song Proof of a Hero from the same vidéo game is incredible too, it's the main theme for every single Monster hunter game, i hope you will like it !
If you do talk to more game ost composers you might be interested in asking them about how some music in games isn’t just a track that plays as a track but it reacts to what the player does, Austin Wintory (journey ost) would be a good guy to ask and Marty O’Donnell did mention him so you’ve got an in there
Thanks for the insight! Wonderful video and I'm really happy you're continuing to make these. I'd like to give a little more context and hopefully you'll find it helpful! This is an interesting piece to review since (as you've accurately identified) it uses at least two major musical themes from the game. The first theme (Stars At Our Backs, outlined in the beginning with the strings) is particular to Monster Hunter World and plays throughout the game, such as in town and at the end of every quest as victory fanfare. This is a particularly bombastic rendition of the theme, especially with the driving beat of the piece. The second iconic theme makes a fairly short appearance around the climax of the piece and is in EVERY Monster Hunter game (called Proof of a Hero), played by a flute instrument. Even the use of the flute there helps reinforce this callback/nostalgic feeling for those familiar with the theme, since it resembles the instrumentation of older Monster Hunter games. It's often used at the climax of the final battle, kicking in when the boss is nearly dead and encouraging the player to push to the end. Game-specific context aside, I do think that reviewing video game music from an outside perspective can be challenging! Gameplay and the placement of music within the game itself can give so much context to a piece, and video games are very receptive to the use of leitmotifs and recurring themes. A player will be listening to the same music for a long time as they play through a game, and so it's even easier to get familiar with musical themes and then get hit by that same theme later on, recontextualized (much like this piece). I'm curious as to how you feel about this, because on one hand I'd love for you to be able to hear how these recurring themes are used throughout a soundtrack or even across games, but on the other hand I think you already bring a valuable perspective by listening with "fresh" ears, so to speak. Maybe as a once in a while, special video you could review multiple related pieces from a single game or franchise? Sorry for the long comment and thanks again for the video!
Monster Hunter has always created fantastic music from 2004 From the nostalgic home feeling of Pokke Village, the cold terror of Kushala Daora, to the celebration of life that is To One With Life Pride of a Nameless Hunter is such a good track and honestly should've played more in game
3 very good tracks from monster hunter world and iceborne that carry proof of a hero aswell are the fatalis theme, the alatreon theme and the safi jiiva theme. Highly recommend all of the 3
The monster hunter franchise can be explained in a single paragraph. You are a hunter of giant creatures. Each different and how many per game also verifies. You hunt them to help the people and community around you and that is all there is to the narrative from what I have seen. Hey, I'm new around here. Really enjoyed a few of your video game music reactions. Here's a suggestion for your list: Bloodborne Soundtrack OST - Gehrman, The First Hunter.
All of Monster Hunter's OSTs (that I know of) are orchestral and fitting to the fights. If you take requests, the "Raging Brachydios" & 'Nay! The honor is all ours' OSTs from Monster Hunter World: Iceborne are phenomenal
this is one of those games that's just pure fun and action. Essentially you just beat up giant dinosaurs and dragons with equally giant swords, hammers and lances. HOWEVER! They certainly don't skimp on the art and grandeur of it. Very epic scale all around.

They do a very solid job conveying the monster's personality through the music. Really enjoy your dive into the video game genre! Would love to see a reaction to "Ori, Lost In The Storm (feat. Aeralie Brighton)" by Gareth Coker from the Ori and the Blind Forest OST
I would LOVE to hear your thoughts on "A Plague Tale Requiem" sound track. Particularly the song "No turning back". The music in that game is just filled with so much emotion!
A video game with a good soundtrack is “Outer Wilds” a game where you travel around a solar system while stuck in a time loop, with your only goal being to learn. To learn why your stuck in a time loop, about the advanced alien civilization that lived in your solar system, what where they doing, why are they all dead, where did they come from. I suggest you listen to these pieces of music Outer Wilds The Nomai End Times 14.3 Billion Years These next one will be from the DLC “Echoes of the Eye” for outer wilds, which add a new thing to explore that’s designed to be creepier than the normal game typically is. The River River’s End Elegy for the Rings Travelers’ encore After typing this out I realize this is a lot of music, more than what your videos seem to have. if you only want to do one, 14.3 Billion Years is the best one.
Speaking of game music, definitely check out HUNT: Showdowns soundtrack. All music in the game is done by Cryteks own band called Port Sluphur Band. I love just about every song from them and it fits the game and lore perfectly
Could you react to the metal gear saga soundtracks? Many are great, the most well known is Snake Eater(Eng ver.), there's also a Japanese version witch is somewhat different but still pretty good
Ah yes, Monster Hunter World, where the campaign can be described as "anthropologists who study massive dinosaur sized animals and do all of their study of said animals by going on huge fantastical medieval style hunts and killing the animals they study, then realize they need to use this skill to save the ecosystem by killing an ultra huge animal that's migrating the wrong way"
Can you please do a video reacting to the "Formula 1 Theme" by Brian Tyler!!! Recently found your channel and I absolutely adore the content your making. Keep up the great work!
This is a version used in gameplay that's more faster paced. There's the normal version in the credits that I think is well worth a listen too from you called Stars At Our Backs. ruclips.net/video/po_t8I9FC2Y/видео.html

These next one will be from the DLC “Echoes of the Eye” for outer wilds, which add a new thing to explore that’s designed to be creepier than the normal game typically is.
The River
River’s End
Elegy for the Rings
Travelers’ encore
After typing this out I realize this is a lot of music, more than what your videos seem to have. if you only want to do one, 14.3 Billion Years is the best one.
A close second and third would be “Outer Wilds” and “Travelers’ encore”
Speaking of game music, definitely check out HUNT: Showdowns soundtrack. All music in the game is done by Cryteks own band called Port Sluphur Band. I love just about every song from them and it fits the game and lore perfectly
I'd like to see your reaction to the Beezelgeuse theme from this game, or Monster Hunter Rise. The Crimson Glow Valstrax theme is also great.
You should react to “arthas my son” from world of Warcraft
Now that's a great one 👌
you should probably do the raging brachydios theme, and Lord Gwyns theme from dark souls.
Could you react to the metal gear saga soundtracks?
Many are great, the most well known is Snake Eater(Eng ver.), there's also a Japanese version witch is somewhat different but still pretty good
Ah yes, Monster Hunter World, where the campaign can be described as "anthropologists who study massive dinosaur sized animals and do all of their study of said animals by going on huge fantastical medieval style hunts and killing the animals they study, then realize they need to use this skill to save the ecosystem by killing an ultra huge animal that's migrating the wrong way"
If you like this you’ll love Soul Caliber music. 😊
Astalos from monster hunter generations is an amazing piece i would love for you to hear
Can you please do a video reacting to the "Formula 1 Theme" by Brian Tyler!!! Recently found your channel and I absolutely adore the content your making. Keep up the great work!
Please check out the Safi'Jiiva medley on RUclips, really unique and awesome monster theme from this game
Awesome vid as always! Id love to see your breakdown of Call of Duty Modern Warfare II (2022) main theme
I recommend Safi'jiiva's theme from Monster Hunter World: Iceborne.
Now for proof of hero and fatalis theme
How are you today, sir..
I hope you are always healthy.
let's listen to the reaction again ☕
Very good song, very "gamey", it reminds me of the music used in the adventure games cut scenes like Final Fantasy
I highly recommend Soul of Cinder, Epilogue, Dark Eater Midir, or Slave Knight Gael from Dark Souls 3. Sorry I can't pick one I love them all
Kingdom hearts 2.5 dearly beloved or Other Promise are both very beautiful. I also recommend Somnus from Final Fantasy 15
Hey could you do "Blood on the Snow" from God of War Ragnarok? I know you did a God of war video already but I think that song is awesome lol
I would like to see you react to the main theme for Smash Brothers Brawl.
I'm sure a lot of people have recommended it to you, but you should react to Bloodborne OST Ludwig, the Holy Blade
This is a version used in gameplay that's more faster paced. There's the normal version in the credits that I think is well worth a listen too from you called Stars At Our Backs.

Very nice! Should listen to other good ones. Proof of hero next!
Hello, i love your attitude! I’d love to see you react to hollow knight’s main theme, a 2d video game with a very beautiful and classic soundtrack :)
Bazelgeuse theme. I know you don't really get into the other tracks of a main ost but I truly think you'll love it. It's my favorite of all monster hunter themes. ❤️
You could react to Monster hunter Rise's Proof of a Hero too, it's the best version in my opinion
Even if you don't do a reaction to it find a nice quiet place and listen to Monster Hunters Pokke Village theme.
The main theme would have been way better. That song is epic and iconic
Hey man could you react to Deadmans gun from Red Dead Redemption 1? People will appreciate that
Definitely should react to batman arkham themes
any undertale ost maybe ?
