Cries and clap frantically a true testament to this highly underrated and underappreciated mascot. Thank you for an amazing and insightful perspective on the first Rayman game. I hope to see more reviews on Rayman and I love his franchise. He's the guy who keeps me going in life.
No problem anything for a supporter of Rayman. He's the reason I am still on this earth and I have nearly ended my life hundreds of times so that says something.
I finally completed the game after 20 years, I missed 1 electoon box when I was a kid in the caves of spock, a box that you have to fall near water, I had no idea it was possible to land on that area... I found a "how to do" book in 1998 before the Internet and this box didn't appear on it so I thought it was impossible to complete the game on the PAL version, other games like Digimon World had the same issue. But no, in fact I recently discovered that the little sparks in the level indicate something special to do... Fun fact : I used to play with "password" because memory cards were too expensives, and I've kept all my notes during 20 years, so when I finally understood the trick to get the last box I completed it with the same game and the same password. I was a hardcore gamer as kid so to be sure that I checked all the area I fell in every holes of each levels and I reloaded my game like 500 times... but I've never touched that weird texture... damn game. Also check rayman redemption.
When I was a kid, I spend day after day looking for those cages, proud to say that I found all of them! I know this game has a lot of problems, I still can't get enough of it.
I wish you best of luck on one day completing Rayman. I actually completed my second playthrough and I found all the cages without looking them up. I was glad to complete Rayman legitimately.
It actually turned out much better the second time since I remembered where most were and had better honed my skills. Still was painful in some areas xd.
I'm glad you pointed out the NTSC difference in the start video. Nobody seems to have talked about that on the internet so far. IMO the PAL video is way better, but yeah... that could just be nostalgia.
I'm glad you pointed out the difference between The Magician's voice in the PAL and NTSC versions. I used to be confused on why he had two voices, before I knew about region changes. Personally, I prefer the NTSC voice, because it reminds me of a circus performer and The Magician always gave me a showman impression anyways.
This is THE review of Rayman. I’m echoing the comments you’ve already receive when I type this to you, but seriously my friend, bravo. This is an excellent review of a game so immersive yet unforgiving - my inner child thanks you for all of your hard work!
Can't really relate since I'm not part of this generation of gaming. Based on how long this video is, it seems you have quite the fondness in your heart for it and hopefully all turns out well and may you eventually 100% the game.
6:16 I wanna mention that I find the NTSC-A version of this cutscene better because we’re seeing the magician as mysterious and kind of an oddball. The PAL version kinda feels like it’s more whimsical to the introductory of the story. Then again, I live in America.
i guess this works better on a broader scope knowing what we know abt the magician now, but at the time I reckon he was definitely supposed to be a friendly, whimsical character considering he's the teacher in the education games
I love Ps1 games, I try to stay away from stuff everyone and their mother has already done though unless I have a specific outlook on it I feel is at least somewhat unique to me and my own experiences if that makes sense Not completely off the table to do a Crash game lookback though
You mentioned tonic trouble at the beginning just for joking. But, If you didn't know, this game was like a training project for the developers. For context : After the success of the first Rayman, Ubisoft have planned to make a second one in pixels and 2D. The story is "after the defeat of mister dark, some strange space robots came to invade dream country". This prototype is playable as a bonus level in Rayman 2. The reason of the 3D version is caused by the interest of Ubisoft about the first crash bandicoot. To make the game, they decided to create their own 3D device. And for not put their head directly in the project, they create the game Tonic trouble to get the hand to it and fix the problem they make.
One thing that’s completely jarring to me is just how different Rayman 1 and 2 are, they’re entirely different worlds yet Rayman fits them both perfectly. It’s a shame how Rayman 2 ports are handled though, while they’re plentiful none of them are based on the superior Rayman Revolution.
i like this game a lot, but the limited continues and 100% are two huge missteps in my eyes i started streaming this game before i got sick and intend to finish this, as i want to be fully blown away by Redemption, which i have tried and seems amazing
Definitely recommend redemption all the way thru - I've made a video on the full released game if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/cRjG6BfHVNk/видео.html

This is one helluva detailed review and study that almost warrants you writing a college thesis! Brilliant, loved it. Some'ting' special!

Did you do it on mobile?

What's a few more years of trying, am I right?
This was the 1st game I got with my PS1. It was hard as balls but I played it over and over and over again and I eventually beat it :)
This is really good😎keep it up:) 💗
Thanks for the love friend!

woah i thought i commented but i guess not!! i love this!! really love this game!! would you do more retro ps1 games (crash, spyro etc)??
I love Ps1 games, I try to stay away from stuff everyone and their mother has already done though unless I have a specific outlook on it I feel is at least somewhat unique to me and my own experiences if that makes sense
Not completely off the table to do a Crash game lookback though
makes sense, very good point!! love your stuff either way!!:)

It’s good that Rayman is getting another chance as part of the DLC for the new Mario+Rabbids game
I personally prefer the PAL voice of the Wizard because it’s the original
i prefer the us voice heh
Well, now you can play Rayman redemption for a more casual experience.

👀
Does Rayman Redemtion include Rayman by the fans and Rayman designer?
Well there is Rayman Redesigner. It will release sometime after Redemption.
One thing that’s completely jarring to me is just how different Rayman 1 and 2 are, they’re entirely different worlds yet Rayman fits them both perfectly. It’s a shame how Rayman 2 ports are handled though, while they’re plentiful none of them are based on the superior Rayman Revolution.
rayman is really cool in brawlhalla u should check out gameplay of it dubious

did you ever play rayman redemption? it's basically exactly what you've asked for near the end of the video.
ruclips.net/video/cRjG6BfHVNk/видео.html ;)
You say that Rayman 1 is lost to time like all those Rayman 2 and 3 ports aren't terrible
Allegro Presto on PS1 is the best song ever
Never Game overed, had the dos version
