Couple of notes for the future - you can "repair" speakers with super glue and tissue paper. Guitarists do it a lot on amps, and those are very loud. I assume the same thing would work on smaller speakers. And the second thing is Monster Squad is actually a great movie.
I actually had this exact laptop, got it in 2011 or 2012 from my parents during college as I was using an old, busted 2006 laptop. I remember right out of the box, the speakers were a MASSIVE downgrade from that old busted Gateway laptop I was using. Even when they're working, they don't sound a whole lot better than this. Which is really sad because this was actually a damn good budget laptop for the time.
Steve , love your sense of humor and your channel ! I’m from the states and the Movie you put in “monster squad “ was a favorite of mine as a kid . Okay I still watch it , you got me . Lol 😂 keep up the great content !
The replacement speakers worked fine then, that's good. I've never seen (or rather heard) laptop speakers fail before so this was interesting. It's almost always better to replace a part with the exact same used item, but you take a risk on it's condition. Nice work Steve! Does the owner connect this to the internet, if so they want to consider an OS upgrade.
Yeah, replacements worked perfectly! It is odd that they failed, but I guess if driven at loud volume for a decent amount of time, the membrane will go eventually! Yeah, I'll let the owner know about the OS! Cheers Les 👍
i wanna say they can't be all that uncommon. I had a 2014 mbp that had a speaker fail. A buddy of mine also had a speaker fail on her 2013 macbook pro. Gotta say replacements were not nearly this cheap
What i do with my laptop, is to replace the outer membrane (mine made from foam, and after years of usage the foam already becoming dust) with silicone from chaulk (shape it using my finger) That was 6 years ago, until now the speaker still kicking, loud and clear.
Yeah, it was a bit of a jigsaw but once I worked it out it was pretty straightforward. It's always the same working on sonething new, if I had to do it again, I'd do it much quicker! 😬
I had an Acer aspire years ago. I returned it because of a similar issue. For whatever reason when the CPU was at a high usage percentage the sound would become incredibly distorted like this.
2:21Jamrag interesting name, a slang term for a sanitary towel lol, oh The Monster Squad loved that movie as a kid in the 80s! also great vid am now officially addicted!
Nice job Steve sometimes you can get code’s or zapper to make the player multiplayer l have done it with my blu ray but only for dvds 📀 not for the blu ray which is a shame take care mate 👍👏👏
My first tought here its like the sound goes trough the pc speaker insted of the ordinary speaker but i will se the hole video first :) great channel have a nice day
I do the hardware upgrades on laptops at work, so, crack them open with some regularity to upgrade hard drives to SSDs and YEP the screws under the keyboard thing trips me up more than I'd care to admit. It's not like that on every laptop casing, which is why I forget about it sometimes. You should give Monster Squad a watch. I haven't seen it since I was a kid, but, I liked it a bunch then.
My Acer laptop was very similar with the bad sound. But instead of taking the laptop apart and plugging the right and left speakers into the different channels, i just listen closely to each speaker and both were bad. Then to check out if it was the speakers or something in the circuitry, i just plugged in earphones. the earphones worked perfectly so now i knew my speakers were blown. i am lazy so i just ordered small plug in laptop speakers.
Shame it wasn't an electronic repair but.. Win is a Win! There hasn't been much going on for older DVD drives, more so for the BD Drives in regards to region patching. Playing via VLC that is good but.. If you want to use other players/software without a region patched drive. Any DVD HD by red fox will make your drive act region free 👍🏻
Thanks brother Steve! I guess there isn't much call for region patching with all the other options available! I'll check out that Red fox software, thanks for the tip! 👍
I have a broken aquarium filter if that interests you for fixing. The motor seems to shake but its jnsidr an electrical sealed section. Covered in that electrical plasticy hard stuff. I can't fix myself because I've no idea what to do if I opened that part up. I have 2 of them 2 that developed the same problem. They cost me £95 each such a wind up
I love hearing about William Nintendo switch just on the interesting note my granddaughter dunked the Nintendo switch light into the dog water bowl I took it apart cleaned it put isopropyl alcohol and everything dried it out and put it back together it ran for about 6 hours until the screen started showing a bunch of horizontal lines and garbled I turned it off the following morning I turned it on not even the backlight would come on I removed the screen and the backlight and I have it if you would be interested in repairing it it definitely would need a new screen and backlight assembly I think they're about 40 bucks and I would be interested in watching you try to fix it
Hi William! That does sound interesting, I would love to have another go to try and redeem myself after I failed last time! I'll message you on Patreon. 👍
Hi really like your channel and content. I understand you've a disclaimer in regards to your repairs but would you look at something of mine by any chance or have advice? It's a SDP-2 Stagepiano (Keyboard) Gear4Music. Sadly the stand it was held on collapsed and it hit the floor. Since then, the volume has been intermittent. The volume dial should consistently reduce in volume but everytime I do this, it crackles and stops playing in one side but plays in the other. The volume reduces just one speaker works. I'm thinking more of a loose write but what do you think? Perhaps I can send you some pictures.... Thanks.
Thanks Brendan! Yeah, that definitely sounds like a loose connection you have there! If you want to send me some photos, I'll happily have a look for you. My email address is in my 'about' section. 👍
@@StezStixFix Thanks I took it apart and somehow isn't as bad as it was.. so clearly a loose connection wasn't in place so it's not as intermittent! Thanks for your reply.
Hmmm i'm use never the inside speakers i have al-time Creative T30 bluetooth speakers connected with high end digital aptX sound. The most notebooks have horrible sound. exceptions special audio notebooks.
Not great methodology. I would have plugged in a set of external speakers. That would have told you if it was the drivers or the sound chip. Then when you received the replacement speakers you should have tested them before reassembling the laptop. If they had been faulty you would have had to disassemble the laptop again to take them out.
Oh god. Windows 7. Get rid of it. It's a dangerous windows to run now. Update. Or replace with Linux. But for the love of everything holy don't keep outdated os on anything that is connected to the internet. Even if just for Netflix and RUclips.
*I have scratchy/distorted output that comes & goes, also on the headphone out jack - so it cannot be the speaker itself.. Reinstalled drivers, no good.. fearing sound card but it's part of the motherboard I believe, meaning that regardless of an add-on speaker, it would be the same issue*
👍👍👍 Well done Steve
Cheers Vince! 👍
Good isn't he 👌

Another great fix there Steve on the Aspire - nice 1 mate 👍
Thanks Chris! 👍
Nice Steve! Love VLC, been around for years and still has a good community support.
Cheers mate 👍 yeah, VLC seems to play anything you throw at it, for a free piece of software, you can't fault it!
@@StezStixFix Free and open is the best software!

The monster squad is a great 80s movie and a must watch 💪
I can't believe i haven't seen it, it looks ace! Will definitely be watching it 👍
I rented this so many times as a kid

Did you check the sound through headphones first too? That would eliminate some issues.
Iron Maiden desktop 🤘🏼
you've not seen " monstersquad " ohhhh the shame. Watch it its good late 80s fun.
You could have tested the audio via the audio jack to eliminate and compare the audio.
i watched monster squad about 100 times as a child.
