StezStix, I just found your channel and have been watching everything that comes across my feed. Watching this video, I realized that I watched the "Dave" saga in reverse chronological order. Dave in resin being used to hold up boards, Dave being placed in the resin, and with this video, the origin of Dave.
This video just gave me maybe the biggest wave of nostalgia I've ever felt in life. I used to have this toy as a kid and I COMPLETELY forgot it existed. 36 years old now, remembering this being one of my favorite toys... how did I not have a single thought about it in the past 25+ years. Thanks for the feelings and video
I know what you mean, for some reason the Intercom City playset sprung to my mind jus randomly a few months back, though, I could not for the life of me remember its name, we had to look into it and found it based on my description, mainly of one of the accompanying sets and the vehicles that came with (I only had the main bit, there were three others, I could only remember the airport, though...)! I hadn't thought of that in years, either, and I don't know how many hours I spent playing with that!
In this episode of Let's Fix with StezStix! Dave! the lice bug's family get a into sticky situation & Steve motors into lighting action. Steve also forgets his Balls are out 🤣🤣 John Farnham - You're the Voice. Is an awesome song! & you got the words, spot on! 😊👍🏻
Would now be a bad time to tell him he actually broke the flipper? It was designed so if you hit the right speed from the launch that it went up to the second floor of the table to start. He kind of demonstrated this at 1:09. Owned one of these thought it was weird to start then realized it was designed that way.
Steve, 'you're the voice, try to understand it, make that noise and make it clear' 😁😁😁 I've got to tell you that the outcome with Russell Crowe was completely unexpected and that I laughed out loud (lol) with it. Five stars, mate. I bet the second Dave said something like, 'I'm Dave too'. Also, great fix by the way. You really are an entertainer, besides being a great fixer! Keep up the good work! Cheers.
Thanks Sixty! Yeah, i want to give it a go, but I haven't done it before so I wouldn't want to ruin it! Might try it out on something that's not worth much! 👍
The neighbors came complaining that I'm cruel to a dog but I told them the sound was of a young gentleman of the youtube and an undiscovered Freddy Mercury of repair
Newish to the channel, been watching for the past month. This is where Dave came from. That's hilarious, it all makes sence now 🤣 🤣. One of my favourite channels.
To remove the sticker or any sticker for that matter, you gently heat it with the rework station at 100 degrees celsius until the adhesive underneath softens, then you can peel most stickers off without damaging it. Try it next time you have any sticker you need to remove but want to restore when you are-assemble whatever you're fixing.
@@StezStixFix just make sure to stick it on 100 degrees and keep distance to not burn the sticker, heat it so you can keep your finger on it without burning your finger, that's how hot it should be.
@Fix it Phil yea it can take the heat because you're not burning the darn thing, you only need to heat it enough so the adhesive slowly melts. The rule of thumb is if you can keep your finger on it without burning your finger then you're doing it right.
@@beogeek You may not melt the plastic at 100C but it is absolutely possible to leave a burn mark if you're not careful. Something else to consider for people who may attempt this.
I don't really like or understand pinball, and that thing is obnoxiously loud.... but it's also pretty cool! I'd be interested to see if you could upgrade it to have a quieter motor
Amazeballs! Have you considered investing in something like a cricut so you can crank out replacement stickers? I've never tried retrobrite on any color other than beige but I have seen tutorials with colored plastics and it is the same technique. Willing to bet it would work, would love to see you try! It's typically all the same issue, UV exposure causing bromine in the plastic to break down causing the surface to yellow. Bromine is common in plastics as a fire retardant.
Thanks Tidder! I've seen those CriCut devices but haven't looked too much into it. Does sound interesting, especially if it can replicate accurately. Will have another look 👍 Yeah, I imagine the retrobright process is largely the same. I've been dying to give it a go, as I've never done it before. I think this item might be a good one to test it out on! 👍
Ah man I had this when I was a kid! I remember being a brat and BEGGING my parents to get me this at the Toys-R-Us and my bro told me "IF THEY GET YOU THIS WE WONT HAVE ENOUGH FOR THE BEACH TRIP!" trying to scare me into reconsidering but I stuck to my guns and walked out with a Sonic pinball. Holy hell was it loud! Took it to school for a class party and even the teacher was telling me to shut it off lol.
Guy Wilson, NO! The singing must CONTINUE! We must have a cross-Atlantic rivalry between StezStix and BenHeck for who is the best-worst singer and technology-tinkerer! ^_^
Thanks for the video dude, it really helped. I found a boxed one of these for sale for 25 pound. The motor was working, but there was no sound or lights. And the same flipper you had issue with being misaligned is a thing. I managed to get the lights/sound/score counter working again without opening it up, because... someone had JAMMED a 5 pence coin up against the battery contact for the battery segment which powered lights, sounds and scoreboard. It was shorting the circuit out, so with the 5p removed, all is good electrically. I know the flipper is still misaligned, but...I don't want to wreck the stickers and the vibration probably misaligned it to begin with. It could become misaligned again and those stickers would be KIA! So I'm just going to live with the flipper as is, maybe the vibration will realign it eventually.
I've been wanting to mention the Russel Crowe thing for a while now, and just stumbled upon this video now, LOL I must be some what normal, if other people are seeing what I'm seeing, HAHA!! Did I mention you look like Russel Crowe yet?
Hey Steve, it's been probably 3 weeks or so that I came across your channel, I'm an engineer (industrial) but I always love to fix home electronics since my dad is an electrical engineer, I must say I really enjoy your videos, I'm learning a lot and some how I've watched the Dave story backwards, first I saw it embebed in a resin circle, then perhaps two days ago I've watched you pouring the resin and throwing Dave in and today I find out that he came inside a Sonic pinball toy LOL.
Hey Steve I think I could hear Dave say, "Hey Steve toss a 18650 in it and a Usb-C charging circuit and upgrade the bulbs to LED's to save power ,aybe even add a speed control for the motor so you can reduce the sound and save on battery life :)
I had a severely discolored GBA, that's supposed to be indigo but it turned almost black. Retrobrite only made it gray. I don't think retrobrite works on colored plasticks.
Strange to be at the The Birth of Dave, months after finding your channel, have I gotta watch all the back catalogue to find out how he got encased in Carbonite. Dave Solo wasn't alone...Allanis Morrisette knows a song about Dave
2 C and 2 D? That's just asking for the parents to supply batteries once and never again. Edit: Now that I watched you play it I can see why they did mixed batteries. To give parents an excuse to get away from that horrible noise...

Thanks SpaceGod! Yeah, it's a noisy little thing with that motor constantly in motion! You can't play it for too long before it starts to get on your nerves! 😁
I saw this when I was not even 10, wasn't able to buy it, someone took it in front of me. Now I'm 22 and I released my first virtual pinball table some weeks ago.

It’s Christmas. You see this in a shop and think your kid would love it as they’re a big Sonic fan. They open it, insert the batteries and switch it on. It’s at this point you realise you have made the biggest mistake ever! The bloody noise!
i found the origins of dave! i was watching some videos and noticed him.. then i saw one where he was encased in resin.. and i inquired as to the origins of dave.. and now i have watched enough videso to find the answer
Ahh, so this is the Dave origin story! i finally feel like part of the family!
and the never mentioned again Dave 2 lol
Same here, you could say it's being BUGGING me
Came to the comments just to see if I was the only one. Turns out I´m not.

I was just going to write the exact same thing!
Finally I found Dave's background story. :D
