I MISS this era. I grew up watching this as a pre-teen to teenager and then until his retirement. I was born in '82. It's nice to see some of the stuff I never got to see. He was LEGEND. #LoveLetterman I got to see him in 96' with my mum. Was fantastic!
I was 13 when Dave's show came about- just old enough to start staying up later.... Never a better reason to have one's marks in school plummet ❣❣ Thanks Dave & Company.... 🚬😎
I had Andy Breckman's CD until it got stolen in a house break-in years ago. I still occasionally say "Good luck honey, don't get killed" for routine errands.
I know this guy, indirectly. An excellent writer and musician. My friend Rob introduced me to Andy's work, and I have been following him ever since. I particularly remember the "Good Day" song, and the Rabbi Finkelman tunes. Rob interviewed Andy via cassettes many moons ago, and Andy was very mischievous.
OMG...the adult theatre/root beer barrel joke! Hadn't thought of it in years, and for some reason months ago, remembered it again, still shocked they had that sweet woman in the audience tell it. How great (?) to see it again now!
Not getting SNL in 1981 had to be a blessing for Andy. Got to be there for the beginning of Late Nite and he ended up at SNL a few years later missing most of the worst seasons.
Andy Breckman’s music is brilliant! Look for “Railroad Bill” - one of the most brilliant pieces of folk music ever performed! Also, he created the show “Monk.” I had no idea he was a Letterman writer! Yay!
WFMU 91.1 shirt. Possibly the best radio station of all time! Grew up with it in the 80's & 90's, too amazing. Still going too. Now I live in England not NJ & NYC but I still listen online... thank god!!!

As I listened to Andy sing, I just knew I've heard that voice before. After a little investigation, I found his song "So Far So Good" here on RUclips. That was the one I remembered! For many years, I've been listening to a program called "Across the Great Divide" on KPFA radio out of Berkeley. The original host retired back in2014, but until then several of Andy's songs were played every once in a while, including "Railroad Bill" and "Don't Get Killed." Glad I stumbled upon this!!
Good thing Dave wasn't pregnant or there'd be complaints from people that didn't know it was a body double doing those flips. I liked Andy's song, complemented by Hiram's solo.
In the early years were writers able to spring things on Dave once the show was already being recorded? Because a lot of the later writers said when they submitted ideas, the ideas were escalated up to Dave. But it seems like early on Dave was caught off-guard a lot like it was the first time he was hearing about things. Haha. Right before Dave said enough of the bird on the shadow puppets, I heard someone say tweet tweet. 🤣
Maybe it's one of those insider things, but I didn't like any of it. Except for the Richter Scale joke, which was the only one the audience didn't like.
That band with Hiram Bullock, Steve Jordan, and Will Lee in it was just absolute fire.
Steve is currently Rolling Sones' drummer
Thanks for all the laughs, Mr. Breckman.
Andy’s a very very funny guy and a fantastic writer. I love listening to him on WFMU.

Whomever put these videos together, thank you, they are wonderful!

The bit with Jerry was hilarious. Such good sports.
He's supposed to be one of the greatest guitarists? I would say he's a bit overrated.
"OZZY"!
Dave teaching Jerry how to play Proud Mary. Dang, dang, dang!
Love all these videos, but why is the audio so low for the interview with the staff but loud for show clips?
Come for Jerry, love the whole gosh darn thing, especially that ending!!
love dave miss him

Hope she got paid. What a good sport!
These are great! You should do it with Chris Elliott.
I love the guys in the audience yelling “Yeah, do it ! Do it !” Must be some writers planted in the seats ...

Wonderful writing!
Excellent!

He also wrote the Richard Pryor movie 'Moving' which is hilarious and a favorite of mine!
I know him from his show on WFMU. I knew about Monk, not about writing for Dave.
These are so good! Thanks.
And you all still "have it" ... that's the best part, I think.
I'm not sure which I liked better, the song, or the ending.
Andy thank you for all your work with Letterman!
This stuff is great but can you guys upload whole episodes again from the early days? The stuff from the 80's and early 90's is amazing.
These are great - it might have taken a while, but everyone is doing a wonderful job with the channel.
Andy Breckman! Saw you at the Bottom Line in like 1995? Good time!
Fun stuff.
Thank you.
I can’t get enough of these writer segments
They will have to do multiples
Pam had great delivery!
Very attractive as well.

R.I.P. Hiram Bullock
Stay till the end, folks! It's a doozy!! Ha-ha
Red, Would it be too much to ask, to explain the ending when he referred to meeting Tom Gamil's wife ? I guess I'm not that with it. Thank you. Russ

Damn, that Sunny von Bulow joke was dark! Lol
I wonder how many people even get that reference today.
Not me.
I laughed out loud - dark & hysterical. The 80’s were quite the time to be a teenager

Pam was better at telling those jokes than Dave
These are the best uploads. More writers please.

Everyone loves Demi Moore and wants her to stay safe. David can take care of himself!
@14:58 *"Hiram!"* Rest in Peace
Dave as the Guitar Teacher!!!
Nice shirt. Love the show.
Late Night just looks like it was crazy fun to be a part of. Not just Letterman but Conan as well.
Holmes Cooney fight? 🤣 I got that reference.

Anyone care to explain the Larry Richter joke? I don't get it.
Larry Bud Melman was the star of the show during that era.
Maybe it's one of those insider things, but I didn't like any of it. Except for the Richter Scale joke, which was the only one the audience didn't like.
THANKS!
That's just the second time I've seen Jerry Garcia play "Proud Mary".
humor....ar ar....
Nanu Nanu.
no matter how rich n famous David Letterman became, he has always been nothing but a dork. no cure for that.
14:00 Hank Harrison (writer, former Grateful Dead mgr, and father to Courtney Love) pictured on the right.
“Don’t Get Killed” is a huge favorite! ❤😂
4:07 “i ate nothing but a Hound Dog!”
Man, how cool to get to play with the WMDB? I like what I heard of that tune.
Dave sang when he was controlling rupert on his halloween trick or treating bit
Paul got a new shirt this day
Love that WFMU shirt!
This was the most slow moving segment I’ve ever seen
Whoever thought of these interviews was a genius
Some of the best episodes were during the writers' strike.
Just kidding! 😀
Sunny von Bulow made me write that.
This stuff is pure gold!
WFMU!
WFMU
Prop's Andy!!!
Why is Robert Reich calling himself "Andy" now?
Spicy!
👍
Andy, What's your favorite show on WFMU?
Hiram!
Best part of the song.
🌽
Can someone explain, please, that bit about the 8th scale/Larry Richter?
You're a fine joke writer. A singer, not so much.
