Madeleine, thanks so much for your contribution to some of the greatest moments in television history. I remember all the clips from the original airings. They are all classics. Even if you never did anything again after this, you should be enormously proud!
@@MADINTHEKITCHEN I was in Jr High when I discovered Late Night. I distinctly remember watching the night of the "Monkey Attack." It was the event that set the hook. It was terrifying, anarchic, and hilarious. I'd never seen anything like it. It was life changing. I rarely missed the show after that (which led to nearly nightly angry shouts from my Mom yelling at me to go to bed. THANK YOU so much for your work on Late Night, and the Daily Show (which became nightly viewing when I was in college). Your work helped form me. As a kid who felt weird and alone, knowing Dave and his team were out there made me feel less alone. Thank you.
@@tomfeister thank you for sharing this with me!! It is so hard to know from the inside how what you are producing is being received. I have had a very hard year (Breast cancer) and your comment just lifted my spirits immensely!
@@MADINTHEKITCHEN, I'm so sorry to hear you're having to deal with that. Three of my aunts have fought that battle, and luckily all 3 won. I'll keep you in my thoughts. I'm so excited to make this connection. Thank you again for bringing so much laughter into the world. I'm looking forward to trying you Matzo ball soup recipe!!
I saw the monkey segment when it aired. If I live to be 100 the words "She's gonna leap at me and pull a vein out of my neck and kill me!" will never be forgotten and will always crack me up.
I love these segments! Each staff member has favorites that I remember but haven't seen since they aired, or new ones that are just hysterical. Thanks Madeleine!!
There’s more complete footage from that show that I understand is on the RUclipss. Right before she’s cut off here, “Rose” is asking for a cigarette. While still running in the marathon.
It's up there in my favorite show moments. Then again, that's a long list. I wonder if there was some inside joke about that phrase since he laughed right after he said it.
😂!!! I’ve never seen these, was only around since Late Show stuff, and loving these Late Night highlights lol!! 👏🏽 The sheep rounded up by collies were cool, and that monkey business was so funny haha
1) She's ADORABLE. 2) Kamar's assistant was apparently Chloe Grace Moritz; 3) I've actually worked with Jack Hanna, and Madeleine is right - he's MUCH funnier in reality than Dave's viewers really knew.
I remember the sheep dogs and the monkey vividly "Maybe you'll get some...and maybe you won't! Yeagh!" So funny. I had no idea she co-created the Daily Show! Wow - great work!
Any time I'm feeling down I watch the monkey attack clip and have a good laugh. I really relate to Dave's terror. "Just a little monkey," the woman said. Google monkey attacks on humans and you'll never go near one of the little bastards again. Run Dave, run!
Few people know how funny and innovative Dave was during his NBC days . When he went to CBS he became evil and mean and very personal. He just wasn't the same Dave we watched for years earlier
Tons of people know how funny and innovative Dave was during his NBC years. The CBS show always felt too big. Like they didn’t have the license to be as weird as they wanted to be because it was 11:30.
I won't lie. The dogs herding the sheep was the best thing ever and the most adorable thing ever. Like o-m-g!!
The monkey segment is the funniest moment from all late night shows EVER. I hadn't seen the magician or electric glove ones and they were great too.
I LOVE THIS!!! Especially her call out of the "moron" from the ASPCA. Just awesome candor!
“Would you like, David, to feel this glove?”
“Would I!”
Famous last words.

Thank you so much. I feel the same way. I am so proud of my legacy!!

Madeleine is terrific. She is a Pioneer too. Thanks for sharing these great clips with the Back Story.
The husky idler!
Absolutely fantastic, Madeline! So much behind the scenes talent, that truly made many shows and created so much laughter over the years.
Is there a Part 2? Madeleine was a great storyteller and was apart of some hilarious moments. Well done!
Yes! Please bring Madeline back for a second video in the future. She must have a lot more stories.
Ditto! I want to hear and see it all please 😂
Who you talking about? The husky Idler?
You have a high tolerance for melodramatic people...
Gaines! The people have spoken! We want more Smithberg! Get on it! Chop Chop!
Thanks for this. Husky Idler gets me every time
I love the magician's assistant terror face when he lights the fire.
She was the audience channeller!
This was a true joy. Thank you! ❤
I saw the monkey segment when it aired. If I live to be 100 the words "She's gonna leap at me and pull a vein out of my neck and kill me!" will never be forgotten and will always crack me up.
It was the single most hilarious moment of my life and career!
Thinking of the woman who had her face torn off by a chimpanzee, it isn't much of a stretch.
"Maybe you'll get some...and maybe you won't! Yeagh!"
I love these segments! Each staff member has favorites that I remember but haven't seen since they aired, or new ones that are just hysterical. Thanks Madeleine!!
Wonderful! Thanks Maddy! Nice Emmy!
I still have that 10th anniversary special recorded, i always loved the sheep being herded bit.
What an amazing lady! I loved these stories.
Did a quick search and found out that Maddy is 63, which means she was 27 when she joined the Late Night team!
This is awesome, thanks Madeleine!
All of the NBC years were filled with so much beautiful mayhem.
Yay Madeleine! 💖💖💖
Thank you for this 🤗 The happy memories... We only watched Dave, wouldn't miss an episode!!!
Jack Hanna was a real pro, coming back with that bitten hand. That had to be throbbing.
That monkey clip never fails to make me laugh. Thanks, Madeleine!
Kudos and a big round of applause for Madeline! As always, the woman behind the man is the source of great accomplishment!
My favorite Letterman years, thank you!!!
Oh yeah. The husky idler. Now I recognise her.
I love these staff memories clip “episodes”.
A plus clips Madeline.. loved your work with Dave and the daily show
Thank you Madeleine!
Jack Hanna seemed such a decent and kind soul
I’ve been in love with David Letterman for 50 years. Dave is 75 years old now… I still love you you big palooka.
I remember all these segments very well! Great job Madeleine!
The monkey clip is delightful.
"Offer your hand to the lady like a gentleman..." 😄
Those monkeys were billed ahead of Sean Young for that evening.
Gotta let you know Madeleine, that we all felt for you in that Husky Idler moment.
You are wonderful !!!
Oh dear I still remember seeing all of these on day of airing. 😂 btw, who's idea was the 360° rotation episode? Hehe
haha i remember the husky incident
There’s more complete footage from that show that I understand is on the RUclipss. Right before she’s cut off here, “Rose” is asking for a cigarette. While still running in the marathon.
The entire husky idler event is unbelievable TV. Madeleine is an amazing talent and good sport.
It's up there in my favorite show moments. Then again, that's a long list. I wonder if there was some inside joke about that phrase since he laughed right after he said it.
Hahaha I remember watching husky idler live! Such great memories going through and enjoying the staff’s favorite moment.
Excellent share 😂
This was super insightful! Maybe the best staff moments I have seen so far.
So good
I saw this the night it aired, loved it !!!
This was great!
Great Clips. Thank You for sharing. Dave acting afraid of the monkeys was hysterical
This was a good one.
😂!!! I’ve never seen these, was only around since Late Show stuff, and loving these Late Night highlights lol!! 👏🏽

TIL Mrs. Doubtfire worked on Letterman.
1) She's ADORABLE. 2) Kamar's assistant was apparently Chloe Grace Moritz; 3) I've actually worked with Jack Hanna, and Madeleine is right - he's MUCH funnier in reality than Dave's viewers really knew.
I recall the Monkey Lady becoming visibly upset at the end of the segment, and cursing.
I remember the sheep dogs and the monkey vividly "Maybe you'll get some...and maybe you won't! Yeagh!" So funny. I had no idea she co-created the Daily Show! Wow - great work!
This lady is fantastic!
The "Like" button doesn't do justice to this clip, how about a "Love" button RUclips.
I always thought the "husky idler" bit was a joke
Wow! TV history! Cool!
This is my favorite Staff Favorite Moments so far.

Where's the SPCA dude for the stressed out🦫???? The snare drum and clapping, nearly cost Jack a digit!
The husky idler
Freaked Paul out at 14:09
the magician's daughter with that look "dad, do you really know what you are doing?"
Now we getting to the good stuff. Husky Idler was big.
I still use the line "She's gonna leap at me, pull a vein out of my neck and kill me!"
Mad in the Kitchen? Is this an ad? Or is that a joke I’m just too stupid to get?
Man, I showed my tape of Reena Smaha and the monkeys many times! All amazing.
Sorry to see Kamarr the Discount Magician insulted like this.
Brilliant! One might think the monkey was payback lol. I do remember watching that. Dave was probably missing Kamar right about then.
Husky? You're quite lovely ma'am. But the monkey was perfect revenge.
"Husky Idler, meaning in the most positive sense."
14:10 pause and rewind. He’s definitely scared
Were you there when Madonna went off on David?
She wasn’t. Madeleine left Late Night in late May 1992. The Madonna appearance was on Late Show two years later.
Hey! you are in Dave's Mom's kitchen!
Nope; she’s in her own home.
Incredibly funny!!
Madeline should’ve stood in the wings and yelled “why don’t you call the monkey a ‘husky idler’, Dave!”
Lol, husky idler
I love

This lady really does not care for sheep
Sheep really only respond to border collies due to stress so it makes no sense.
What a career! Co-creator of TDS in addition to this!
Kamar--the discount magician.
It is amazing how antiestablishment this show was just to become to become establishment shills.
It’s the monkey’s show now

Love Jack Hanna appearances
Odd to keep your Emmy in the kitchen
Monkeyshines.
An experiment in fear. Or in Dave's case, terror 😁
