I am so sorry for your loss Stu. Our sincere condolences go out to you and your family during this difficult time. I'm happy though that you can get out on your bike to just clear your mind and collect your thoughts. Please take care of yourself!🙏🏼
Stoked i came across your channel. I'm 51 and grew up in Cali riding bmx bikes. Then eventually stopped for many many years, but will always have love for them. Finally bought a bike online in 2020 during the pandemic to get outside and ride around. Bought a Haro x Steve Caballero cruiser. Now living in Boise, ID and still have the Haro, and also a mountain bike to get outside for exercise and fresh air. I have a sister that lives on Kauai too (in Lihue), so i recognize some of the areas that you and Bernie cruise around. I'll be on the island in May 2025, maybe i'll see you guys on the streets! Aloha!
If you come back and visit your sister, hit us up and we can take you on some rides! We have bikes to borrow! We enjoy taking new friends out for rides here so don't be afraid to hit us up! Thanks man! 🤙🏻
Aloha Kevin! We are about the same age. I'll be 56 in a few weeks. I'm a big bmx collector and rider. Bmx roots started way back in Hawaii in the 80's. I got back into riding bmx back in 2001 and never stopped since then. I live just 5 minutes away from a great bmx park called Lake Cunningham Action Sports Park. Biggest skatepark here in Northern California. I ride there 3 to 4 times a week with about 2 hour sessions. I'm still riding a 20 inch freestyle bike and ride skateparks, dirt jumps, pump tracks and some old school flatland. My collection is pretty big with mostly 70's to modern retro all 20 inch with a few 24 inch and a 26 Kos Kruiser, all around 90 completed bikes. In my collection I did keep some stuff when I lived in Hawaii and also brought back a new Hutch TrickStar I bought at Waipahu Bike Shop in 1991. If you are ever in the Bay Area look me up. Enjoyed this video and all the other ones in the past. Mahalos! 🤙🏽
Sounds like we need to plan a trip up to the Bay Area to check out this rad BMX collection! If we ever get out that way, we will definitely look you up. Would love to maybe even do a video with you if you're willing to share that collection with the world! Man, I just love hearing stories like this. And you spent time in Hawaii too! Did you ever race in Hawaii? What a small world huh? Hope to meet you someday my friend! Thanks for sharing this with us and for watching our vids! 🤙🏻
@cruisinginthe808 I grew up in Waipahu and moved to California in 1984. I did not race officially but I used to mess around the PAL track in Waipahu that was short-lived. When Freestyle bmx hit the scene, I was into it. I did know racers from back in the day and did ride with them now and then. Especially the guys at The Great Outdoors/The Bike Shop in Pearl City. Moki and Miki Fernandez, John Llacuna, Roy Ingano, Walter Watanabe to name a few I remember from back then. I did enter in the 2 freestyle shows they had at the Great Outdoors. Won for highest bunny hop the first time and almost beat Moki in the long distance jump. Moki was a great and smooth rider. I still have that 1981 Mongoose I rode back then restored with some of its original parts the way I had it back then. I even brought my bmx bike to our 20th class reunion. Everyone back then remembered me for riding a bmx bike. They were surprised I brought that bike and did some freestyle tricks on it.
@cruisinginthe808 Whenever you come to California, it sounds like a plan! I ride with some of the bmx legends from the Bay Area and they still ride. This 2024 year 2 of my bikes were out and about. 1 went to The Bmx Hall of Fame. My Skyway TA Hugo Gonzalez tribute bike and Haro visor went Hugo and Oscar Gonzalez for them to donate memorabilia when Hugo got inducted into the Hall of Fame this year. Another bike was loaned for The Back for More in 2024. Ron,Dave and Brian Freestyle Tour. Ron Wilkerson rode my 2Hip Pork on that tour. Pretty cool set up I did for him to help him out since he didn't have an all around freestyle bike set up. I know Ron personally and ride with him here at Cunningham Action Sports Park just about every week 1 to 2 times weekly.
Aloha Kevin. I’m 58 still riding with Aloha. Riding clears my head. Take me back to BMX days in Tampa Florida. I had Race Inc. Diamond Back. GJS. And my all time favorite my Black Torker 280 with yellow Z rims gold hubs. Aloha my friend 🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙😎✌️
I really enjoy your videos. 54 and have never stopped riding BMX. Have always owned at least one BMX since the mid 70s. In the 80s, BMX was everything to us. Never lost that feeling. Mostly ride 26 cruisers now. Redline PL, Monza, and recently got the Kuwahara 26 you showed in this video. Hoping Hutch makes another round of Pro Racer 26s. 🤞
Thank you so much for sharing that with us! Stoked you’re still riding and never stopped! Sounds like you have a nice collection there yourself! Thanks for the comment and for watching!! 🤙🏼
Kev!! I ride all the time by myself and though it’s suburban Northern California and not Kauai it nice to take time out for me…clear my head and enjoy the moment. Went to my first ride out sponsored by Monza a few weekends ago and it’s really true..this bike community was very welcoming. I may have been the oldest guy out there at 52, but it was fun seeing young kids on bikes. I’m still rocking my 86 redline 20inch with 1 3/8 skinnies. Appreciate the video!! Happy Holidays to you, Bernie, and the fam. 🤙🤙🤙
What part of Northern California? I'm in the Bay Area San Jose. I ride bmx park, dirt jumps, pump tracks and some old school flatland riding. I'll be 56 in a few weeks. Still rip on a 20 inch.
@@josephdelasierra4890I live in Dublin, but know SJ very well…went SJSU. That’s awesome!! We don’t have any pump tracks yet out here, but I hear they are building one in Livermore. Glad I’m not the only 50+ that is still peddling the 20s around!! 🤙🤙🤙
@RatRacer503 we need to get together one day and ride. I can introduce you to more guys our age that still ride. I ride with George from Knight BMX and his riding friends from Sonsof4130 at times. Will be fun.
You very kind to me ...yes the bmx community has been very friendly.. Been a couple of months now since I got back riding..Have no reson to stop riding..
Hell yeah, was a teenager in the 80’s currently building a PK Ripper, not really old school sadly but a 2009, and I’m 54 picked one up locally in mint condition and gonna be swapping parts out to make it my own. Sure do wish I had my GT Pro still,
Right on! Main thing is that you're back on a BMX bike and enjoying riding again! Keep us posted on your PK build! Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
That neck mounted camera really holds a smooth video, no bouncing around. Have you ever used one of those chest mounted GoPro's or the ones that mount on top of your helmet? If so, what do you think of the other ones in comparison? I feel for you when it comes to the uninvited insects entering your body at will. Are they aiming for those holes?🦟🦠🪲👃🤧😷 That was a fun hill.
Yeah, it's surprisingly stable and didn't bounce around much at all. The camera itself is a decent weight so maybe that has something to do with it. I tried using the GoPro chest mount but found it way too cumbersome to wear with all of those straps. I have used a helmet mount but the only issue with that is that anytime you turn your head, the camera whips around whereas the neck mount won't move quite as much with the same motion. I'm really liking the neck mount and will be using it tonight when I ride on Oahu! Stay tuned! Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
Everything you say is 100 percent true! I stopped riding BMX for awhile because I got into modifying cars. Did that for 15 years and noticed that BMX bicycles are so much better than a automotive vehicle. Started riding BMX once again in 2008 and Haven't stopped riding BMX since & I'm 38 but still loving it like when I was a kid!
I build one of my GT's into a 26" cruiser after owning a 24" SE So Cal Flyer. However, due to the fact I live in a hilly city in the UK, I need gears to get to places. Having only one gear will wear out the chain faster going uphill! I have 5 GT's now.
Love it! It's just a blast being outside, riding with a bunch of friends, giving each other crap and just having fun. Stoked you have a group to ride with! Keep it going! Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
Phones are good for playing music on the ride, but yeah, if you can keep your phone away on the entire ride, you can get a lot of thinking done! Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
@@cruisinginthe808 it really brings us back, no phone, no helmet, no wallet, 20 bucks in my pocket and we don’t even have to be home when the street lights come on. The only thing modern is that we can buy our own beer!

Would love to here from you!! Thank you in advance!
I've used the Insta 360 motorcycle mount which is pretty good but the one I'm liking the best is from PGYTECH. Here is the link to it. amzn.to/3ZTjsUr . I like this one because it comes with a small plastic sort of "wrench" that helps you tighten the screws down. These type of mounts are notoriously hard to keep tight and this little wrench fits over the screw and gives you more leverage to clamp it down on your bars. The head also tilts as well. Pretty good for $40! It does have some cushion on the inside of the clamp that protects your bars, but I did notice that if you have the clamp next to a bend in your bars hear the stem, if the edge of the clamp touches your bars, they will scrape it. The cushion doesn't go past the clamp and falls just a bit short so that's why the edge can touch if it's close to the bend. Hope this helps! Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
So I started out again with my love affair with BMX with a 26” Haro and felt it was too small so then went to a 29” GT and that feels too clunky …that new monza 27.5(?) might be the ticket …test drove 24” monza felt like I was gonna break it lol
