Denim and plaid. Tell us you're Canadian without telling us you're Canadian! You are an inspiration. Not only are your ideas brilliant, your execution is top tier. I'm learning so much from you and you have inspired me to get a scissors to my old unloved wardrobe. I'm feeling so good about it, thanks to you Catherine.
@@JankoWalski-hz3lu we would just adopt you if not already Canadian. Just show up in the lumberjack shirt and you will be provided with a Tim Horton’s coffee and a hug LOL
My mentor taught me to take a rubber mallet to the thick part of jeans. It softens the fibers so the needle goes through more smoothly. Great Video. Love all three projects :)
Brilliant use of textiles! I was so glad you decided to keep the jeans with wide legs. I was nervous, as for me, finding thrifted jeans that fit would be already enough of a triumph. IMO long skirts don’t get worn as much as well fitting jeans anyway. I had a really cute jean-skirt, but it kept pushing my underwear down, so that was enough of that! (I hope the mosquitos kept out of your lumberjack skirt at the party!)
It is so yummy! I love the denim and flannel! Can't stand how cute it is. Bell bottom jeans? Yes, please.you are so perfectly talented!! I love your vibe little lady.
The wide legged jeans bring back memories of the 70's. I remember making a pair of pants with bottoms at least that wide. My dad teased me that I could get my pants caught in the door standing a foot away from the door. Your jeans are cuter than my pants were.
I'm 72 yo, been sewing as a 4H'er at 9 yo & throughout my life doing all sorts of designs, suits, prom dresses, etc. You are so interesting to listen to, calm, with a soothing narration, and I am sure such an asset to your students to keep the sewing experience going on to the next generation! I have honestly learned many things from you, especially with serging garments making sewing so fast and easy. Love all your ideas!
That’s exactly what I thought of doing with my late husbands plaid shirts. I’ve already used his dress shirts to make our granddaughter some dresses. Blue dress shirts work for an Elsa dress! Thank you so much for this video! You are so so talented and a joy to watch!
@@annekelly8168 I'm so sorry your husband has passed. I wish there was a way for us to show our projects, because I'd love to see your little dress shirt dresses and your plaid skirt (if you make it). This channel has brought me so much joy and knowledge.
I have a festival in the summer, and one of the bands we are going to see is a Scottish inspired Rockband, and everyone will wear their Kilts. I will make myself this lovely plaid skirt for that. I have a favorite pair of grey jeans that is ripped in the crotch, wich would be perfect for that, an also and old black and grey denim jeans I just couldnt throw out yet. So i can make the denim skirt as well. This inspired me so much, and gives me the bravery to tackle it myself. Thank you for that Katherine. Thinking of putting the buttons to be all in the front, and only sew closed the top part so I could have it open on the bottom as a slit :)
Girl, you nailed it in this video!! (Well, you do in every video.. !) I've got over 20 years on you, but I LOVE the plaid tiered skirt!! And I want to try making the skirt out of the two pair of jeans! I'd already planned a trip tomorrow to a big thrift store & now I have more things to look for! Thank you for your time and especially your enthusiasm!
This was a video that I can say was totally awesome! I made the denim/flannel skirt in 1979. I adored it then, and i adore yours now! Thank you for the memory 😊
Those wide leg jeans made me think of the 70s when I was in college, and wide-leg was very popular. I remember what was called an elephant leg jean, and I could literally wear the leg bottoms on my waist. LOL
Love, Love, Love it, the skirt, which I was skeptical about, is my favorite. But loved the wide leg jeans too, amazing. I want to know where you live, so I can move in. Thanks
Catherine, you are a blessing!! I have a pair of dress pants that fit well, but they have flared legs. And they are NOISY when I walk through the office (which is quiet) - it's like I'm wearing corduroy or something!! So I appreciate on these wide leg jeans how you used the yardstick to mark and I did the reverse. Much quieter now!!
I’m so glad I found your channel!! I’ve been sewing for 40 years but have learned so much from your videos!! Just completed the tiered skirt and I love it!!
Been working on denim boho skirts to sell at market next summer. Sooo much fun. No fussing with zippers and such. Thanks for sharing your great projects.
More fun than going to the movie theater! The sponteneity and creativiity of your videos' are sooo inspiring! Thank you for filming...I learned so much and each peice is gorgeous..
Hi from California! I love to sew, but I despise making clothes. I have an issue with instant gratification and so I gravitate toward easy projects like tote bags and items that can be made in a day or less. I hate shopping because I am 5' 1" and have a hard time finding clothes that fit and don't make me feel bad about myself. Your ideas of thrifting and upcycling covers both of my reservations. Thank you so much for posting these projects and giving me much needed inspiration. I love your channel!
I have trimmed a pair of jeans for a top, I am pleased. I can't decide what to make the skirt, plaid shirts are perfect. I will stop at the thrift store on my way to groceries this afternoon. I have larger pair of baggy jeans...
😊Hi! I am a new subscriber. This is my first vlog. I was drawn to it because this style of clothing has always been my favorite along with big sweaters and ponchos with sleeves. Anyways...lol...I just bought my first sewing machine and look forward to maybe someday, probably years from now to be able make clothes like this.
It’s amazing how you can visualize the outcome of your reworking the old jeans. Wish I could say I have the confidence to follow with my ideas. Blessings PAM
Loved the flare jeans too, glad you didn’t sacrifice them for the skirt. You could add cute lace panels to that hug skirt to get some fun flare. I’ve seen a few of those and they look pretty and a bit whimsical. But I loved all the items you made. Even dying to make a broom skirt and I really like the flannel one! Thanks again for another great video. I look forward to the new ones every week while I catch up with the older ones😄😄
I loved these upcycles. Not only did the skirts come out beautiful, but, the ideas.... WOW! Also, you were working with my favorite fabrics to wear. You absolutely nailed it.
I love that tiered skirt, more than I thought I would, looks great, All your creations do. Thanks, Catherine!! I think we all cried in that last episode of Firefly Lane.
Oh wow this was a great video. Yes, it was one of your very very best. I love everything you made. And that skirt looks so comfy. You did a beautiful job. You give me inspiration and courage. I mostly only sew little projects, some patterns and blankets and stuff like that. but I have been getting into redoing some of my clothes, because you have given me courage and confidence. And I thank you for that. You’re a blessing. Thank you for sharing your time with us. It’s very valuable and very much loved, as are you.😊
Oh Catherine you make everything look so cool and easy…..I had to make the jean/flannel skirt. I am so proud that I did it, I even found new skills with my serger, thanks to you. There was some moments of “oh dear” but I forged through, so glad I did…thank you dear heart for all your words of wisdom !! I absolutely love my new skirt xo
Agree with those comments that praise your final products. I also love the teaching and problem solving you demonstrate. Thanks for inspiring us. Keep ’em coming Catherine!!!
TOO, TOO CUTE! ‘Nough said! What fun to watch, too. A magical, mystery tour thingy… how will it end up? Personally, I think you made all the right decisions!👏🏼👏🏼
Everything turned out wonderfully! The jeans are so fun. The tiered skirt looks amazing. The denim maxi looks so much better than we did them in the 70's lol. There were some very interesting ideas in the 70's!
❤❤❤Awesome! I gotta find some flannel shirts now. And you were so excited and fun! Well, you’re Always fun, but you were really enjoying your work today. Love your video!
I love the wide jeans, too. I wouldn't make them into a skirt - you already did that so you now have 2 different items to wear. The denim flannel tiered skirt is darling and so fun. I think has been a great project!
Kim, your village scene is even more wonderful this year with your storytelling of it! Always lovely, but something even more special to each of us personally with your narration of its inhabitants. 🎄
I first found you watching you upcycle jeans to a wide leg bell bottom jean but can’t find it now. You constructed them much like the rounded off pattern and inserted it into the side. Then you showed a picture of them on. Trying to find that video.
OMG, this is the most validating tutorial ive ever seen and I've seen an absurd number of them. Ive been feeling like an OCD, perfectionist when making anything as if there's something wrong with me. God, thank you for showing your real process & not just the final, successful method. Im subscribing rhen watching everything you've posted. ❤❤
Who else was "rooting" to save the wide leg jeans? Too awesome to sacrifice just yet. Pleased you made 3 great options and all super flattering!🤩
Your engineering is excellent !

Yes! That's a good trick. I actually just use a regular hammer when I make jeans.
🤯 nice!!!
Brilliant idea with pounding the seams!!! Thank you so much for sharing that nugget.

Agreed!
Catherine, I think I am the gal who shared my idea for the tiered skirt and I LOVE it! ❤
Oh Julie! I couldn’t find your previous comment, so I’m really glad you’re commenting here and that you like the end result! That makes my day!
That tiered skirt is fabulous
Those jeans are beautiful so is the skirt. ❤
