He and Edward Hardwicke were on stage in London for a Sherlock Holmes run - my mum got tickets through her company to meet the cast. Edward Hardwicke had a bad cold so we couldnt meet him, but Jeremy was there. He kissed my mum and me! Hugely powerful terrifying man!
This really deserved to be made as a film instead of a TV production. Then it would not have been nearly forgotten, and they would have restored it and cared about it. The colours are almost gone. This feels like discovering a precious artwork tucked away in a damp, dusty cellar all neglected and damaged. :(
One of my favourite scenes ever, with two underrated english actors. JB already does this blitzsmile he will reuse years after when playing Sherlock Holmes. Hottest brit artist together with Lem ♠️ Heaven is certainly a most interesting place than earth with these two 🙏🏻
The WORST proposal in history, but Jeremy could say anything at all, and my immediate answer is YES, oh YES! the man is smouldering and has more sublime Grace than any woman I've ever known! Grace on a man, on JEREMY is oh so HOT! okay, I'm done blabbering and drooling.
Yes, it is weird, but this was it was written in the original book. My grandma loved this book and when I schoewd her this story with Jeremy Brett, she said, that he was an ideal Maxim !
Thank you! I was searching for such a comment. After he said, “I am asking you to marry me, you little fool.”, I would probably answer “Ok, but only if I am allowed to call you “idiot” for the rest of life.” if I was her. Might be some interesting relationship then.
This is such a wonderful scene. I love how it's drained of colour so that your eye is drawn to the tangerines on the table (read this scene in the book and you'll realise the symbolism of the tangerines). The actors play it with great subtlety too.
i just adore him in rebecca... his mentor, Laurence Olivier once played the part in such an admirable and loving way.. and later, his pupil and i believe, greatest admirer, gave the role once more life :)
Beautiful, handsome, hot... Ok, ok, ok ! But if he had been only good-looking, having died in 1995, he would be long forgotten. And yet, people who discover him only now, in the various non Sherlockian performances of his available on YT, realise how very unique his talent was. It is this UNIQUE TALENT, once it is acknowledged in its richness and versatility, that makes him loved with accuracy for the great actor he was, and for ever, by more and more newcomers. "L'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux." (Saint-Exupéry, "Le Petit Prince")😂
There is a clip of this film of Rebecca that has better color, however the man's looks are intoxicating and I've spoke on so many different sites that isn't funny but he was beautiful oh my God he was beautiful! And his voice no matter what kind of film he's in, I know his voice
Funny that Jeremy and Anna Massey didn't speak to each other during the whole filming of Rebecca......reason...Jeremy had just bought their son David a motorbike for his birthday and Anna was so angry with Jeremy.
I'm so severly in love with Jeremy Brett. It's agony. Sexy and handsome are words that barely scratch the surface when trying to describe him. I'll love you forever, JB! xo
I caught a very strong Jane Eyre vibe watching this scene. I mean, proposing to a servant, her initial disbelief, and thoughts that he was kidding/teasing. Their rapport and his playfulness "you little fool" and "I never joke at breakfast time". His commanding tone. Their relationship as playful equals when they know IRL they are of diff classes. His insistence that she must not love him then. Her declaration "Oh I dooo love you". So much feeling from our beloved Jane Eyre scenes, proposal and her leaving of Rochester. Jeremy Brett is hot, would make a fine Rochester. .😍 The heartless vamp of a dead wife compared with crazy Bertha in the attic. Very similar
Unpopular opinion I disagree that it's like Jane Eyre, there is no childhood of the main character, he doesn't have kid she looks after and Rebecca is a bad person, not mentally ill like Bertha and obvs dead unlike her too, and Mrs Danvers too.
This is a great find. I have read so much about this version and have to say - just based on the two clips - that I can see why people love it so much. Thanks so much for posting this. I wish I could watch the whole thing. :-)
Yes, My Fair Lady was dubbed by other singer but the other day I watched Jeremy Brett singing beautifully in live on a British show.(somewhere on youtube!) I wish I could have seen the whole film of Jeremy's Maxim!! But still this little piece is full of his charm. Thank you for sharing♥️
What a coincidence - mother and daughter in the same role! Joanna David playing the second Mrs. de Winter in this adaptation and Emilia Fox in 1997. I would love to see more of this though. What a pity it has not been released on DVD.
'will you marry me?' .. why didn't she do: 'yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaahhhh!!!' :) (he's hypnotic in this clip!!! I never saw this , thank you so much for sharing)
There isn't a Time every night I watch him and there isn't a time that I don't think to myself oh Lord God why did he have to die? He was such a remarkable actor and could play anything. I know this sounds crazy but I think I'm obsessed with him.
@shulien229 I am huge fan of the Hitchcock version and of the book but have to say this scene with Jeremy Brett is sublime. This is so close to the book and also wonderfully romantic and subtle.
So you guys are aware, her name is Joanna David and she also read an abridged version audiobook of Pride and Prejudice for Penguin Classics. And Jeremy sounds almost exactly like Holmes from the hidden object Sherlock Holmes games from Big Fish games
This is great, but after all I would not never ever mary Maxim. ;-) When he said that kindness is not his strongest quality all alarmcolck did go wild. But with JB ok this is another matter. ;-)
Yes, Jeremy is excellent in this. Rocking the white aesthetic. I was catching Anton Walbrook vibes from The Red Shoes and also Pierce Brosnan. Throw in a little Out of Africa Michael Kitchen chic. The lighting is great. Kind of mesmerizing, dreamlike.
**Thank you** for posting this scene! This is the first time I've seen *any* of this series, although I've been searching for it for ages (and I've loved the book for years and years). Why on earth isn't this version available on DVD?!
Hi JBrettsgirl! Thank you for this fantastic video! I am a very great Jeremy Brett fan from Hungary :-) I very like the "Rebecca" in book, but de film with Jeremy...it's sooo amazing! But unfortunately I saw only those scenes in the RUclips :-( But this film so much interests me! Jeremy is playing so well in it! And he is soooo sweet in this scene!!! Thank you very much!!! :-)
What a great job you have made of your webpage, have you considered setting up a website to honour Jeremy Brett. And may I ask where can you purchase REBECCA from I have searched for the DVD for several years now but have never been successful.
I bet he made a great DeWinter. Is this available on dvd? I just love Jeremy Brett! My daughter and I saw the 1940 version of rebecca on TCM a little while ago and would love to see this one also. I bought The Good Soldier from Borders but they don't seem to have this one. That was good, by the way. Dark and sad, but a good story. Thanks for posting these clips for us!
Jeremy Brett was excellent in the 1973 ATV production of The Merchant of Venice. His acting was sublime compared to Laurence Olivier's tendency to go over the top with his.
Thanks for these Rebecca videos. I never saw this version, but I really love Jeremy Brett as Max !!! Can't you post a few others videos of this 'Rebecca' ?
Ohhhh my god... What a direct speech to appoch or, to drop a sentence to opposite a lady that SHE MARRY HIM ... OFFFFF WITH HIS TERRIFIC EYES AND NO SMILE NO COMIC... SO SERIOUS OMG....
Still the best recorded performance of Rebecca, IMO. I love to watch it for JB of course, but Joanna David's performance is so often android-like with those catatonic stares she inserts from time to time. I assume these are meant to portray awkward innocence, but she ends up just looking goofy.
I haven't ever seen the entire thing before, do you know where I could find it? Thank you! I have always liked Jeremy Brett in Sherlock Holmes, and I was excited to find him in this as well.
look how tan he is! He must have put so much white on for holmes . . . . Yeah, the damaged penguin, indeed! :) Does anyone have any vids of JB as watson?
This seems like the worst proposal ever... but... it is the BEST proposal ever! :) What's the word in English for "extremelly hot, extremelly smart & extremelly charming"? =) *_*
Bonjour. Je cherche la version française de ce feuilleton, en DVD et VHS. Pourriez-vous me dire où je puis la trouver ? J'ai beaucoup aimé cette adaptation du roman de Daphné du Maurier. D'avance merci d'une réponse. Cordialement.
I love to watch this version and then compare the later version with Charles Dance and Emilia Fox. Joanna David is too old for the character. Her daughter does a better job, but I like cast in this version better.
I love Jeremy Brett, too, and find him extremely attractive, but sorry, the moustache ruins it quite a bit for me. He is so much more beautiful without it, and yet, he sports one in far too many of his roles 😂 🙈
Jeremy Brett as Maxim de Winter had me at “hello.” 🥰🥰🥰
He and Edward Hardwicke were on stage in London for a Sherlock Holmes run - my mum got tickets through her company to meet the cast. Edward Hardwicke had a bad cold so we couldnt meet him, but Jeremy was there. He kissed my mum and me! Hugely powerful terrifying man!
He kissed you!?
Meu Deus, se esse homem me beijasse, eu nunca mais lavaria o rosto. 😁
This really deserved to be made as a film instead of a TV production. Then it would not have been nearly forgotten, and they would have restored it and cared about it. The colours are almost gone. This feels like discovering a precious artwork tucked away in a damp, dusty cellar all neglected and damaged. :(
It's most definitely not forgotten by me. I have the DVD and of all the productions filmed, it's still my favourite.
Agreed. It:s been terribly neglected! This is the only part of it I've ever seen. Thank you so much!
Oh My God - could this man be any more beautiful?
I was catching Anton Walbrook vibes from The Red Shoes. lol.
Impossible !
The Legend of Jeremy Brett
Wouldn't have taken me that long to give an answer!!!!!!!❤❤😁😁
What a beautiful man he was!
MY favorite part was: "I NEVER joke at breakfast time!" *smile*
And the part where he said, "I thought you loved me." I couldn't STAND it!!
One of my favourite scenes ever, with two underrated english actors. JB already does this blitzsmile he will reuse years after when playing Sherlock Holmes. Hottest brit artist together with Lem ♠️ Heaven is certainly a most interesting place than earth with these two 🙏🏻
I'm so glad I found this - he's so perfect for this role, so dashing!
You are absolutely right! He is Mr. DeWinter! I don't understand why this is not out on DVD.
I think I'm starting to love Jeremy Brett. I want MORE of his Maxim. MORE!!!
Golly ! What a good looking man !

Yes.Yes. Yes

More life, I think.
*faints* "I'm asking you to marry me you little fool." OH! I JUST DIED! *faints*
Thanks for uploading!
Beautiful, handsome, hot...
Ok, ok, ok !

I NEVER joke at breakfast time - lol he is so gorgeous - thanks for the vid :)
There is a clip of this film of Rebecca that has better color, however the man's looks are intoxicating and I've spoke on so many different sites that isn't funny but he was beautiful oh my God he was beautiful! And his voice no matter what kind of film he's in, I know his voice

What a look!
Jeremy Brett is great! And this actress, it seems that she played Mrs Gardiner in "Pride & Prejudice" series.
Oh! How I miss Jeremy.
"I NEVER joke at breakfast time!" Hihihi
Beautiful.. wish I could see the whole thing. I met him once - he called me "Carol"... I was only 15 - he was huge!
Hehe why did he call you Carol?
And yeah he was very tall.
Oh how I love you Jeremy Brett!
JB and Joanna David reunited in 1994 in Sherlock Holmes.. The Cardboard Box episode. I didn't know he did Rebecca, he's brilliant as Max de Wynter. 👍
I'm so severly in love with Jeremy Brett. It's agony. Sexy and handsome are words that barely scratch the surface when trying to describe him. I'll love you forever, JB! xo
Yes, he's very good in this part--only a bit warmer and more likable than the Maxim of either the book or the original movie.
Rebecca is a Jane Eyre retelling, so ...
Unpopular opinion I disagree that it's like Jane Eyre, there is no childhood of the main character, he doesn't have kid she looks after and Rebecca is a bad person, not mentally ill like Bertha and obvs dead unlike her too, and Mrs Danvers too.

The whole thing is on YT now :) just search the name
... Jeremy Brett also plaid in „ My fair lady“ and eventhough they didn‘t make him sing, he could do it beautifully 😊
Yes, My Fair Lady was dubbed by other singer but the other day I watched Jeremy Brett singing beautifully in live on a British show.(somewhere on youtube!)
I wish I could have seen the whole film of Jeremy's Maxim!! But still this little piece is full of his charm. Thank you for sharing♥️
@@kemekoist The whole series is available!
What a coincidence - mother and daughter in the same role! Joanna David playing the second Mrs. de Winter in this adaptation and Emilia Fox in 1997.
I would love to see more of this though. What a pity it has not been released on DVD.
Many many thanks.
wouldn't Jeremy have made a wonderful Gatsby?
Oh his eyes !!! Rarely I am in love with him.
Oh to have a man like that in one's life!
He was so good looking.
'will you marry me?' ..
why didn't she do: 'yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaahhhh!!!'
:) (he's hypnotic in this clip!!! I never saw this , thank you so much for sharing)
He is a presence. I must explore more of his work . I was catching Anton Walbrook vibes from The Red Shoes. lol
Joanna David is not a bad actress!!! She is one of the best! How could you say such a thing???!!!
I need to watch the whole thing now.
I can't get over how great he is in this. And I love the white duds.
LOVE, LOVE THIS SCENE!!!!!!!
BABIES. I want all the babies with him!
But with JB ok this is another matter. ;-)
@MrsWilliamTheBloody. Quite addicitve too. I have just caught myself watching this YET again. :-)
"I'm NOT joking! ..........I never joke on breakfast time." hahahahah.

I would love to see the entire programme.

Hi would you please tell me where you got your copy of this adaption of Rebecca. I simply love Jeremy Brett.
I bet he made a great DeWinter. Is this available on dvd? I just love Jeremy Brett! My daughter and I saw the 1940 version of rebecca on TCM a little while ago and would love to see this one also. I too would live to find the entire movie. Jeremy as Maxim seems just as good as Olivier. Please post any info you can get us on the entire movie.
Jeremy Brett was excellent in the 1973 ATV production of The Merchant of Venice. His acting was sublime compared to Laurence Olivier's tendency to go over the top with his.
I really like this! Is there anywhere that the dvd is available?
Thanks for these Rebecca videos. I never saw this version, but I really love Jeremy Brett as Max !!! Can't you post a few others videos of this 'Rebecca' ?

LOL. I think it's so funny that everyone here (including myself) is a fangirl lol!
Ohhhh my god... What a direct speech to appoch or, to drop a sentence to opposite a lady that SHE MARRY HIM ... OFFFFF WITH HIS TERRIFIC EYES AND NO SMILE NO COMIC... SO SERIOUS OMG....
I just discovered this site. I am one of the fans dying to see all 4 episodes. These clips are so tantalizing! Is there some way to see them?
واقعا چقدر برازنده ست واسه هر نقشی و کاملا بانقش تطبیق داره با اون لهجه عالی و نشون دادن احساسات باتمام وجودش ؛ روحت شاد ؛ دوستت دارم خیلی زیاد
Brett is far better than Olivier.
Much.
I completely agree. Much more better and oh so handsome and hot.
And Cumberbatch.
Still the best recorded performance of Rebecca, IMO. I love to watch it for JB of course, but Joanna David's performance is so often android-like with those catatonic stares she inserts from time to time. I assume these are meant to portray awkward innocence, but she ends up just looking goofy.
Tbh conflicted cos Jeremy is my favourite Maxim but Emilia Fix is my favourite main character but Charles Dance just doesn't look like Maxim to me.
I haven't ever seen the entire thing before, do you know where I could find it? Thank you! I have always liked Jeremy Brett in Sherlock Holmes, and I was excited to find him in this as well.

You can buy this on DVD by all accounts...a site called ioffer. A friend emailed me to let me know.
look how tan he is! He must have put so much white on for holmes . . . . Yeah, the damaged penguin, indeed! :) Does anyone have any vids of JB as watson?
The OG fifty shades of grey
lol you're very lucky :)I'm betting he was very tall
This seems like the worst proposal ever... but... it is the BEST proposal ever! :)
What's the word in English for "extremelly hot, extremelly smart & extremelly charming"? =) *_*
How did you meet him? :)
Step away I’m in line first for JB so adorable 🥰 who’s so dishy yummy
And Alice Munro in BBC's "The Last of the Mohicans" =)
Bonjour. Je cherche la version française de ce feuilleton, en DVD et VHS. Pourriez-vous me dire où je puis la trouver ? J'ai beaucoup aimé cette adaptation du roman de Daphné du Maurier. D'avance merci d'une réponse. Cordialement.

Thats an easy YES!!!!!! from me.❤
This is wrong, im used to Jeremy has Holmes and this caracter brings my mind to Gregory House. Nothing bad about this video. :)
If anyone is interested in getting a VERY affordable copy of this production of "Rebecca," send me a private message.
I love Jeremy Brett, too, and find him extremely attractive, but sorry, the moustache ruins it quite a bit for me. He is so much more beautiful without it, and yet, he sports one in far too many of his roles 😂 🙈
buuut you can get pirated ones on ebah :) (shhhh don't say anything)
He is really beautiful here! But, by God, that moustache annoys me!!!
I think it suits him. And at one time, mustaches were fashionable.
I too think it suits him. He looks ravishing with this moustache 😍
I prefer Laurence Olivier as Maxim de Winter.
Brett is great, but 'Rebecca' is the silliest thing ever written.
