  • Frustrated by street scenes you really want to draw, but don't feel confident even to try because of their complexity? This strategy may be the key to unlock this challenge for you. Watch it both explained and demonstrated, bringing to life (in less than an hour of real-time drawing) a busy medieval street with a great depth of plane to capture. If we can break it down in a systematic way compatible with freehand ink drawing, we can choose a path that makes at all possible. The reference photo is available on the channel Community Page if you want to have a go drawing this scene, using the strategies demonstrated, yourself.

Another great video stephen Thank you. I like the thought of doing a crowded street scene now! Figures really make the scene come alive, so you can ‘feel’ the hustle and bustle. 😊

I’ve never drawn a street scene from one side to the other. Can’t wait to try. This is very intriguing.

Ye Olde Starre Inne, built in 1644, is possibly York's oldest public house and during the English Civil War was used as a hospital and mortuary for the soldiers.
Loved the drawing and the detailed instructions you gave. Brilliant as usual.

P.S. glad you left out the large figure in the middle, as it would have made it look oversized and odd in proportion. Oh for the joys of Artistic Licence 😊

Took me a while to work out why the scale seemed out of place with it!
