My 451 CDI is a 5 speed, but my neighbor commented that he has never seen me enjoying a car as much as I do with the Smart car😁 It had ran 95 k when I got mine in December 2021 and it clocks near 130k now, and I drove to Poland just two weeks ago from Norway and it's just an hour or 45 minutes home from the border, so it isn't far, but I'm going to Poland again next week for Smart family meet and I guess I'll stay there for a while as prices are 1/4 of what it is in my country and I'll chase the heat as well and maybe get a chance to follow my dream as well. My Smart is working flawless, but it really needs new springs, don't know about the dampers, but springs is a must as the current ones in the front has sunken down. Stereo, mine has it and lots of sound, including a double 12 sub with dual voice coils and 2200 wats peak, but I will transform mine with even more speakers and clarity and different panels different colors. Oh, my 33 liter fuel takes me from Denmark and home, I would say that's pretty efficient and even more cheap than most motorcycles😅 My Smart will stay with me and I don't see any reason to sell it either, its's the smartest buy I have done in like forever🤣
My Smart 450 cdi here has been the best decision I made in a while also :). It has a better range than most electrics & the diesel costs less than the electric charging here even though the price of diesel is the highest it has ever been haha. Any other car would be very expensive to operate. It is a very capable little car. Your car is still like brand new still, my smart clocks 225k current with no issues, but I did put on some new parts. Wow thats alot of stereo in the little car :). I have logged 1000km+ some days highway driving in heavey rain & heavey snow no issues. The little cars are a keeper. Thanks for posting :)
I have over 230K on my Smartie which I have had since new and I think the best way to drive it is to shift the gears manually because then you know exactly when the shifts will take place.
you get used to it after awhile, its only on roundabouts on rare occasions where it decides to shift and your left with no power with a second or two whilst out of the roundabout, but this is rare, to get smoother shifts just be gentle with the accelerator and it will be ok, as i said you get used to it after a few drives
Hi , I saw a guy in one of those pull out from a TEE junction , with a large car coming to wards him bang tee boned in the passenger side , bits flew every ware , even saw the air bags go off , Christ I said to my wife he must be dead after the car Leapted in to the air . No he opened his door shook him self and not a scratch on him , but a few plastic parts laying around . He walk over to the guy who hit him and said sorry my mistake , I ASKED DO YOU WANT A LIFT TO HOSPITAL FOR A CHECK UP? no I think I am ok ,just a little shaken . Now years later I have a Smart roadster and always have it in manual at junctions , if the traffic is heavy . Smiles per mile and a HOOT to drive .😉 A live crash test before my eyes . 👍
The car in this video t-boned a suv at around 100km. Driver of suv crossed the highway right infront of me. Same thing, bounced in the air. Big welts from seat belt. Back not the same today. Hit my head pretty good. Front tire & axle assemble on drivers side was broke off the car. The car was written off. 2 months doing nothing on recovery for me after. Slow recover on my back & shoulder almost year later. Seat belt padding helped, without might have had a broken bone from seat belt. Still driving a smart fortwo.
I agree, but it took me a few weeks to get the hang of it. The only thing I dislike is when I want power, am in a decent gear, and it kicks down unnecessarily. That takes so long that the opportunity has gone.
haha yah. remember it is only 799cc & a diesel smaller rpm range. Only way around that is keep it in manual when need. If its a cdi, could remove the crank case vent from intake. It will give it longer legs.
Good tip.. do you have any quick advice on how to do it? I improved mine with a Turbo wastegate valve controller.. noticeable performance difference with zero impact on fuel efficiency.
It is very good. It releases the clutch slowly & incrimitanly dependant on how far you push the gas pedal. It takes off slowly, allowing for such maneuvers as parallel parking. If drive a Smart for first time it may seem like you have to mash the gas pedal down to get it going. A friend drove the car & on starting he said why is it not moving. Slow starts are by design for low speed maneuvering. Good point Sir. 👍
Yah, that one was abused a little bit before I got it. Think it might have had 1 bad valve & might have had a inter cooler leak when I was filming that video. I was in a high speed accident with that one & now driving one with fewer miles. It definitely has more boost pressure & starts better in cold. Yah I was thinking about that, can tell the stock tuning does not do the platform justice. Was thinking the only things that can change are timing & rail pressure. Maybe could put a resistor in the line to increase rail pressure. A subscriber also made a comment about putting injector tips from a sprinter van on.
Can i ask you something? If you want to parking and you want to secure more the car (in case handbrake loose) you can leave the car with reverse or A (auto) ? Is possible or do damage to transmission? And how exactly to do ? (IF is possible)
@@sirusthevirus6879 shut it off in gear. It will stay in gear untill you turn key back on & step on brake. That should not do any damage unless shutting off in gear on a steep hill & shift selenoid has to work extra hard to shift it out of gear because weght of car is on it.
@@gripguy6056 yes. Check my other videos. Changing gear oil, greasing actuator, greasing where shaft contacts yoke in transmission, having a good battery. All make for great shifts & reliability. That Smart was a good car, a young lady drove out infront of me on the highway a few months after making that video. I am driving the white one now. That one had actuator issues to work out.
Turn the temperature setting all the way to cold. Press the snow flake button on the top of the dash. Snow flake button on triangle panel centre of dash with hazards switch & door lock switch. A light will turn on in instrument panel indicating air-conditioning is on. If not working it needs recharging or air-conditioning pump not engaging.
There are still a few out there, eventually they end up at junk yards. Just have to keep eyes open & ear to the ground. They are not that old yet. Can order parts through mercedes, or ebay, exc.

No one has ever made one.Ive watch a smart car tow 3 trucks. I really appreciate your help and advice. Only thing I can say is somethings are hard to see because of the lighting in your new shop. Keep putting out these amazing videos please. I tried to do that reset but it didnt work. It does come up as CAN bus. Another weird thing i noticed is i can even use my turn signals.
@Rc Patience Raw Thank you. I will figure something out. I don't have a hoist to show removing the under body, hard to see the underside when the car is on the ground. Will see. There are no lights installed in the shop, struggling to get the doors installed. When the doors are all in I will get some good lights up. Alot of those videos I recorded working into the night or in winter when sun goes down early. Thats a weird issue. Could be a broken ground wire, a loose connector back of sam under the dash or loose ecu connector (ecu located in engine compartment, bolted to side of air box). Maybe even ignition switch. If it is a canada model there is the e-box in the battery compartment, some times that causes the car to not start. But not sure if it would give the one bar error. Something isn't connected, thats why getting that error. Hope just a loose connector & not a broken wire somewhere, weird that happened right after a trip to dealership. Maybe something was unplugged & not snapped back in properly & came loose on drive home.
When it works fine it’s ok I guess. The clutch actuator is pretty problematic as I have been experiencing the ‘Ξ’ problem lately. Nevertheless pretty mediocre transmission. At least it’s a 6 speed.
Is that a 450 or 451. I haven't had any issue with the actuator seizing up on the 450. Just one that wore through the throw out bearing yoke. Have seen alot of the clutch actuators have issue on the 451. Think the grease gets old. The actuators are a different design between the 450 (04-06) & 451 (07-10).
I agree, would have been cool to offer a version like that as well. If a guy had some time he could probable remove the shift solenoids & rig up a manual shifter using sheathed cabled. Toyota has alot if cars that use cables to shift gears. Could just get the shifter with cables from wrecker. Then rig up a clutch pedal & cable for a manual clutch.

How is it at very slow speeds in a technical situation, like parallel parking? I know that's a common issue with some auto-manual cars.

How does the air-conditioning turn on? I just purchased the Diesel Mercedes 2006 model, looks identical to yours.
