Our house was also built in 1973! And we are still in it! I was 24 and hubby 25. Things were good and we had it built. 1800 sq foot ranch, south Louisiana. Still in great condition as we always maintain and upgrade. Raised my 3 children in this house and we are still active and healthy and don’t plan on going anywhere except a lot of traveling. Well I travel, he stays home. :) So to me this house is not old! LOL

Very groovy home and a shame it’s not being restored to its era. Look how mid-century modern has made a huge comeback. Most larger homes from that decade had maids quarters. All of that wall material you kept spotting that you said felt cheap or like a tree I think might’ve been original to the time. My parents house (built 1950s-purchased by them 1974 and remodeled that year) had that wall material all over the basement and I remember being a kid and touching it and thinking it was so odd!
Ray Gay society in general is soulless. Lots of crazy rich people having so much, but for some reason or another, abandoned their excess wealth. Clearly, not many people in Canada, or anywhere really, willing to pay CA$6 million for that. Not many willing to pay over one million. Developer comes along, offers half as much, so $3million, divide up the land into separate lots. Sell 50 $250k homes for $500,000, because for some reason, demand is willing to pay that. Make $12.5 million in profit, minus the initial 3, so $9.5million. Meanwhile, people who can’t afford $500k homes be like, “hey! I can’t afford to pay that much for so little. Why are they tearing down such architectural beauty? Not fair! I would have saved it!” To add to the soullesssness: Greedy developer wants to give back to the community. Wants to make affordable housing. So instead of 50 lots, they half each one, so 100 lots, with 100 houses, 4 floor plans to chose from for $250k. Tiny cookie cutter houses with no land. Meanwhile, citizens are in an uproar. It’s not fair that they paid so much money, only to have to live next to the riff raff who didn’t (anyone who can afford a brand new $250k house). They’re worried about crime, overcrowded schools, and traffic (ignoring the fact that they moved there themselves to what once was also a large multi million dollar estate, and contributed to the very thing they feared). This project now goes one of two ways. 1) citizens fight city hall, and win. I’ve seen it happen. It’s obnoxious, especially when they get on the council, but they can succeed. So no $250k housing. Demand now raises their own property values. Victory for them. Or 2) developer builds this housing, making only a pretty mild profit of a million or so, $250k homes are all bought up by people who already have homes, and immediately go back on the market as rentals. So people who “could” have to afforded to live there, still are stuck paying rent, and not building equity. After 5 years, buyers lists the rental home for sale at $500k, and it freaking sells!!!
I loved the ‘green’ upstairs bathroom. I love the wallpaper and sink counter tiles. This bathroom I’m guessing belonged to the ‘main’ bedroom & it also had the study.

It almost looks like an d classic movie set house bc in a lot of old movies the living room looks like that and the staircase too it’s so neat I loved this house!!
I think perhaps there were more bedrooms originally; located where what you refer to as a nanny suite we here in the states would more likely call an in-law suite (a little too generous for a nanny) - these serve as a more or less private apartment but the in-laws would still take their meals with the rest of the family. It looks like it was added on later as the bathroom and its fixtures are newer and the stonework on the fireplace does not match that of the rest of the house. Might also explain why those windows were just covered and not replaced with a solid wall. I love glass blocks and their history, from being used in sidewalks over subway lines to the upper part of factory walls to let light in. Antique glass blocks were made with manganese dioxide which, over many years of exposure to the sun’s UV rays turns a highly desirable shade of lavender - very sought after if genuine. There are a number of this style of house standing in various upscale neighborhoods near me - this particular one in a subdivision of an old Gatsby-era estate: goo.gl/maps/dzckaEcKAwJhYy6Y7
Now that was a cool house. It's a shame that it's being torn down. I would live in it just the way it is set up, just do a refresh on the "pretty stuff". That upstairs bathroom with the crazy wall paper was the bomb, I would try to find a vintage greeen toilet to put back in it. Loved the "What's up guys" with the invisible mirror. lol

this is really sad that people would just come in move out a house move out of a house and decide to tear it down because they want to build something bigger and better there this is a perfectly good structure house that hasn't been used in a while built in 1973 why can't you have a program out there for people that are homeless and on the streets with the coronavirus going on and help those people out cuz I'm sure somebody will be very grateful for this this home it could be their first home it could be their second home it could be some kind of shelter for people it could be a home for kids that are runaways I mean there's so much you could do with this house why tear it down and waste your money to do that when you could get some kind of use out of it that's what they should do with a lot of these places you're showing on the internet come on I mean we're at a time of crisis right now and you want to just tear it down really that's a waste of money in my opinion

The glass blocks were big again in the late 80's, early 90's. My ex hubby had a remodeling business & he did a lot of the walls at that time. Especially in the lofts in downtown Chicago. Cool find. Thank you, Ethan! Peace🕊️😘
I liked the house and the property. It is really strange when you find random items in closets/rooms - one pair of women's shoes, a teddy bear, a fur coat - it's like the previous owners decided to leave some items to make people wonder just why did they do that... As always a great video.
I grew up in the 70s, so the house looks like to me a combination of, 70s meets the 80s with the BOL as you said Ethan 'Groovy' light fixture, and staircase. The curved walls were added maybe in the early 80's, as well as the 80s style 'Glass Bricks' so popular throughout the 80's. Pretty much a 'Miami Vice' era home that sprung from a classic 70's party mansion. I love the whole house and would be willing to buy it if it won't already going to be demolished. I do hope that some of the features like the light fixtures and Glass Brick walls and so much more that needs to be salvaged. I love going into antique stores, and secondhand stores and looking at all the great old things that were salvaged from homes demolished, or completely redone. I have a collection of glass and glazed doorknobs, also ones covered in enamel. I use them as door stops, flower and season decorations put out on my end tables, and shelves. All my antique doorknobs have the original cast iron or metal attachments that go through the round opening. As a child growing up and as a teenager my Momma and I would explore old, abandoned homes, and new homes being built in the 60s and 70s. I did the same with my three children, only we explored 80s and 90 abandoned homes and new homes. Gues we were among the first 'Urban Explorers' when my Momma would take us. If the house was going to be torn down, Momma would get in contact with whom ever had the home and ask if she could as she put it...Harvest some of the old fixtures, doors, window frames, fireplace mantels and what nots. She would offer to pay for the items she wanted, but the majority of the time the owner or the bank who had the home said take what you want no cost. I learned from her the names and values of items we 'Harvest'. Momma was an artist, and painted pictures using oil paint, Palette knife painting, watercolor paint, charcoal, and pastel chalk paintings. She made things from clay, and she put together some really nice silk flower arraignments using old doorknobs, lace. I am not much of a painter; however, I do know how to create wonderful silk flower arrangements using ordinary things around the house, my antique collection of glass doorknobs. Cool house! I liked the smoked glass light fixture. Those bathroom tiles were awesome. The kitchen almost had a Mediterranean vibe. Le Chateau is a clothing store chain and their stuff is moderately priced.

For a huge house the kitchen is small. The kitchen almost looks as if was updated at some stage.

The glass blocks were big again in the late 80's, early 90's. My ex hubby had a remodeling business & he did a lot of the walls at that time. Especially in the lofts in downtown Chicago. Cool find. Thank you, Ethan!

I liked the house and the property. It is really strange when you find random items in closets/rooms - one pair of women's shoes, a teddy bear, a fur coat - it's like the previous owners decided to leave some items to make people wonder just why did they do that... As always a great video.

I grew up in the 70s, so the house looks like to me a combination of, 70s meets the 80s with the BOL as you said Ethan 'Groovy' light fixture, and staircase. The curved walls were added maybe in the early 80's, as well as the 80s style 'Glass Bricks' so popular throughout the 80's. Pretty much a 'Miami Vice' era home that sprung from a classic 70's party mansion. I love the whole house and would be willing to buy it if it won't already going to be demolished. I do hope that some of the features like the light fixtures and Glass Brick walls and so much more that needs to be salvaged. I love going into antique stores, and secondhand stores and looking at all the great old things that were salvaged from homes demolished, or completely redone. I have a collection of glass and glazed doorknobs, also ones covered in enamel. I use them as door stops, flower and season decorations put out on my end tables, and shelves. All my antique doorknobs have the original cast iron or metal attachments that go through the round opening. As a child growing up and as a teenager my Momma and I would explore old, abandoned homes, and new homes being built in the 60s and 70s. I did the same with my three children, only we explored 80s and 90 abandoned homes and new homes. Gues we were among the first 'Urban Explorers' when my Momma would take us. If the house was going to be torn down, Momma would get in contact with whom ever had the home and ask if she could as she put it...Harvest some of the old fixtures, doors, window frames, fireplace mantels and what nots. She would offer to pay for the items she wanted, but the majority of the time the owner or the bank who had the home said take what you want no cost. I learned from her the names and values of items we 'Harvest'. Momma was an artist, and painted pictures using oil paint, Palette knife painting, watercolor paint, charcoal, and pastel chalk paintings. She made things from clay, and she put together some really nice silk flower arraignments using old doorknobs, lace. I am not much of a painter; however, I do know how to create wonderful silk flower arrangements using ordinary things around the house, my antique collection of glass doorknobs. Cool house! I liked the smoked glass light fixture. Those bathroom tiles were awesome. The kitchen almost had a Mediterranean vibe. Le Chateau is a clothing store chain and their stuff is moderately priced.
