I wouldn't have taken the chance with the shavens in the engine I would have pulled the intake at that point good luck with the feature of that truck 😂
Shavings in the cooling system aren’t going to hurt anything. If they somehow make it from there into the oil or air intake, then he has bigger problems.
The truck doesn’t need any luck it has me. If you know anything about engines then you’ll know the shavings aren’t going to hurt anything in the cooling system.
Omg I’d gave u scrap price and drove up from central Louisiana. Guess I should have emailed you. I love the old Chevy. I have beautiful one owner just rolled 100k miles 95 regular cab. I absolutely love it
I'm a manufacturing engineer. Use oil when tapping a hole. Turn the tap in 1 to 2 turns then back the tap out 1 turn. This will clear the chips. keep doing this until the tap is all the way in.
Randy, if i remember correctly there isn't a chip or program in the key. It just uses a special ignition lock that "detects" that a key is turning at the same time the starter output is energized. It is called Passlock. GM had 3 iterations of it: Passlock 1, 2 and 3. Passlock 1 was the replacement for the old VATS-the one with the resistor in the key. Passlock 2 used a special ignition lock and type 3 used a key with a transponder and an ignition lock with a receiver. That system is the one with the coding that has to match what is programmed in the computer. Look at the key, if it has PK2, all you need is a new ignition lock and collar. I believe the keys for the Passlock 3 had a light grey fob on them. 1999 was a split year for the old and new body styles. They were referred to as early and late production. The A/C compressor in these trucks was the HR6 and notorious for leaks at the front and rear seals. You can replace them, but it is a PITA and if it isn't properly torqued, it'll leak again. I've replaced dozens of these on the GM trucks over the years.
@@topher8634 I know on these type of Chevy's there's a trick to getting it to bypass the security system. I believe you can turn the key to the on position and let it sit until the security light goes off then turn the key off and then crank it up and it'll start no problem. It usually resets itself when the battery dies or is swapped out. Another way is to splice a couple of the ignition wires together and it turns the system off. I forget which wires it is tho. Not one of GMs better ideas for sure lol.
@xanderx4131 if it malfunctioned, you would turn key on, wait 10 minutes and the light would go out, then turn key off for 5 seconds, then try to start. Most of the time that would work but sometimes you would have to do the full learning over which was just a repeat of the process 2 more times with trying to start it after the third 10 minutes-costing you 30 minutes of downtime. If you had a scan tool, you could put the system in learn mode and start it right away.
Ya I looked at one just like this but had the fiber glass bed. The frame was roached where bed meets cab, probably still could use it but i wouldn't wanna mess with anything rusty like that is headache
Here in the southeast they still look new. A buddy of mine has a '97 with over 300K and aside from the driver's seat being worn, the truck looks like it did the day he bought it.
Yeah my dad has a cat eye and it is rusted out pretty good but it still runs like it came out of the factory had 220,000 miles you can’t beat the 5.3 or the 5.7 they’ll run like a dream even with high miles
Im proud of u randy for saving that old red chevy. Same one u tried starting at junkyard it started but wouldnt keep going. She will run i know it and its a beautiful old truck
Beautiful Chevy! Always did love those trucks, I can definitely appreciate it with you Randy! They truly do not make them like that anymore, unfortunately!
I think you right about the AC WORKING if you put a can of Refrigerant Last year I bought an 01 Ranger & all I did was replaced all the O Rings And a Couple can of refrigerant and the AC Came back to life works perfectly
I owned a 98 GMC Sierra 4X4 short bed for years. My son rear ended a car and the airbag deployed and radiator was destroyed. Not a whole lot of other damage. We had a guy start fixing it for us, bad choice. He ruined so much. I’m not a mechanic by any means so the truck sat for about six years. It had electrical problems and he broke the new radiator. A guy drives by our place and notices part of the truck and stops. He says he will pay $800.00 for the truck and sell it for $7000.00. So we sold it, he fixed it in two weeks and sold it for $8000.00. It only had 65,000 miles on it. Dude replaced the wiring harness, new radiator, better tires and nothing more. It would be still sitting under a tarp in my driveway so I was happy dude did well. At least he was honest with us.
The heat wasn't working because the thermostat had not opened yet, as evidenced by the water lever in thr radiator rising and fluctuating. What a great score!
I have 1 just like that except mine is a 98 Z71 4x4 and it does have a 3rd door on the passenger side and I've also owned a 96 2x4 ext cab but my son wiped it out on me so I didn't want a 4x4 but I got what I could find and there not cheap anymore and both of mine were 1 owners and only farm used and easily farm used. I love knowing I'm in a steel bodied vehicle and my 98 Z71 Silverado ext cab bought it with a brand new transmission and 4x4 unit and axles and it only needed a shifter cable and gas lines to get it back on the road and both has the 5.7 because I love a depth motor. I should state that when my 96 got totaled it had 362 thousand miles on it and still ran and drove like brand new.
I have a 1993 Silverado and it had crank no start after sitting for a little while, there is a box with a switch on it on the fire wall if you flip it off it will disable the security system.
Oh man this was a great video and im so glad u got her back up and running and she sounds soo good and i love love the old cars and that old chevy is a beautiful truck and the interior is in pretty great shape as well i would love to have that old chevy i would drive the heck out of it. Anyways cant wait for part two on this and thanks for sharing keep up the great work much love to ya randy have a good one take care god bless see ya on the next one
That hose on my 99 GMC Suburban did the same thing. Got a replacement from the dealer (my only source), installed it and found some plastic fittings downstream toward the heater core also failed. I ended up replacing the T that hose went to with a barbed PEX fillting from Home Depot and I haven't had to add any coolant since. Side note, those keys aren't programmed. I don't even have the original key anymore and the stock blanks from the hardware store work fine.
If you are going to keep that truck for a while, I would run dual batteries on it. Positive to positive and negative to negative. It will boost your cranking power and don't worry, the alternator will keep up.
Didn’t realize that the Silverado trim package didn’t come with leather interior. I have a 1995 k1500 Silverado and it has the 6.5 turbo diesel and leather interior. I must’ve gotten a special order build. I’ll have to look at the build sheet.
You're good to put that engine cover on if the recall work has been done correctly. The recall work is basically replacing the valve cover gaskets and what would happen is they would leak onto the exhaust or onto the engine cover foam and then that would catch fire and then the phone would add basically fuel to the fire and then burn down the engine. But if the recall work has been done it is safe to put it on. I put it on mine in the winter just cuz it really does help in warming the car up a little bit faster
Randy this model Gm trucks were tuff and after them we watched the quality of Gm trucks go down hill. These trucks could take a beating and just kept going. The 4x4 models had some issues with the control arm wearing out if you changed to wider trims on them but other than that they were great trucks that lasted and you got your money's worth back out of them. I owned one that I would like to get back but the guy said no way. I am not giving up on it yet though😂 . Thanks for another great video Randy.🤠
