just sent it no silencer! im excite to hear my car start up for the first time. Ktuned Ram Header to 3" Magnaflow cat, Vibrant Ultra Quiet Res and Turndown muffer.
I was thinking a jack handle or breaker bar would make the bends in the hangers just as easy as whacking with a hammer but this method gets the job done all the same.
I like the virbant ultra quiet resonators to knock down drone. Due to their length they eliminate resonant frequencies in 4cyl from 2800-3200rpm.. Had one on my 03 vibe GT and will 100% use it again.
Ryan Riffs yup! I have a Megan 2.5 inch on my 240sx no cat. It sounded good but was getting me in trouble. One vibrant super quiet later and it sounds awesome and quieter without any real reduction in flow
Hey guys, do you have any sound clips? I bought two of these to put on my straight pipes 2.7tt fusion, and I wanna know how much more I want to kill the sound
I used to run an A'PEXi Active Tail Silencer when I had a 3" exhaust with my turbo setup. It was nice because it was closed and quiet at idle/low throttle like a traditional silencer, but at higher revs and WOT it would open and have very little restriction giving you the best of both worlds. I would highly recommend it if you want to be quiet while cruising around and not rob power when you floor it. The only real downside is that they are kinda pricey for "just" a silencer.
Droning is caused by standing waves in the exhaust at certain rpms. I would try adding a helmholz resonator somewhere just infront of the rear axel. These don 't hurt flow.
What you're all more than likely referring to is a 1/4 wave resonator, not a Helmholtz resonator. A 1/4 wave resonator is a simple pipe with a length tuned to 1/4 the length of the sound wave, which it bounces back for another 1/4 wave, making it a 1/2 wave at the entry. Since a 1/2 wave is 180° out of phase it cancels out the soundwave. A Helmholtz resonator is shaped more like a beer bottle with a neck and a cavity volume, which resonates with the correct rate of airflow, much like blowing on a beer bottle. Huge difference in how difficult they are to design and build.
You can tune the sound more by modifying the silencer. You can drill some holes, shorten it, or even reshape it (pretty difficult to get right, though.. and little room to work). If you're going to drill holes, you can start with 1/3~1/2" holes about 1" from the start of the upstream opening and go smaller as you work your way towards the exhaust end, increasing the distance between each set of holes drilled to address different wavelengths of sound. This is partly how muffler work to tune sound form the factory. If you're going to cut it, just cut off half an inch to an inch at a time. The tone should shift slightly each time.
Forgive the ignorance, but is this Chrisfix? I noticed his shirt and now I can’t tell if it’s him or my brain thinking man sure does sound like him. Lol
Pro Spec PT nails it again! Sweet looking stealth muffler setup. Best part for me was... PT: "I'm going to use this Milwaukee tool..." *shwiiiiing* (cuts like butter) "That's a good tool!" Lol! Better than mine, it feels like I'm in a war movie using a machine gun regardless of what I'm cutting. 😂 My hands then shake for a day after using the reciprocal saw. Milwaukee should give you a sponsorship, this is like the second or third time you have demonstrated Milwaukee's awesomeness. Where are you at Milwaukee? 🔧➡🚗📹➡📈⬆💲⬆😊 It even makes sense in hieroglyphs!

damien fokkema Sounds like a solid product. I use whatever's cheapest at Harbor Freight, and deal with the occasional tool drama. But on a low budget, HF is the way to go. On a good budget, looks like Milwaukee is worth the cash. Good to know.
I have the same 3 inch exhaust setup with the ktuned turndown muffler. All I did was added 2 vibrant ultra quiet resonators and that made it perfect with no drone, quiet when daily driven and aggressive when I floor it.
It'd probably be easier to bend those exhaust hangers by slipping some 30nb black pipe over the top...leverage. Loved your box and stand solution...worked perfectly.
@@saborguerito are you kidding me?? Gtfo here if your gonna talk about electric cars vs gas or diesel. No comparison at all. Not even remotely the same technology. I mean considering he's just going for something easy to make it nice for daily driving and take out for the track it seems perfect to me gonna try this out 👌
don't weld hangers directly onto the body of the muffler. you should weld a piece of flatbar between each edge of the muffler and place the hanger there. this will rust out prematurely. source: work at exhaust shop
Did you guys consider using an XForce Varex muffler? It looks like a good design with the option of adding bluetooth or OBD2 to control the exhaust noise.
Its better without the silencer. I think more drone came from the silencer. I think the only way to tune a quiet sound is to focus on the piping diameter and what resonators and mufflers work the best. The Vtec may be more noticable without the silencer. 2.75" piping may sound better for most 4-cylinders but im not done testing yet
I prefer the deep tone, but it can drone. The best option is to add a resonator or "tuning tube". (Subaru using a small tube typically after the cat) Both can tune out the "offending frequency". For my car with a full 3" exhaust and just a turn down like you had, I simply put a turbo on the exhaust manifold. It quiets it down quite a bit, and actually gives it a bit of a horsepower increase ;-) #4G63510
You need to put in 5 copper dish washing scrubs inside plus wrap inside the silencer with sink drain net so it doesn't fly out. It's very quiet that way.
It's seems like you're good with welding and metal work. Maybe not a traditional resonator but maybe design a helmholtz resonator. If you measure the exhaust decibels at cruising speed, you can calculate the volume needed for a helmholtz resonator and it will work WORLDS better than what you did in this video.
Add a resonator and leave the silencer out. I had a lot of drone on my brz setup but I switched to an invidia resonated front pipe and the drone was reduced for sure. The black muffler looks better imo. Definitely keep it.
Have you thought about 2.5" with a hemholtz resonator ala s2000? You're not going to lose that much hp and the improvement in quality of life I'd argue is well worth it.
I have a HKS 3" inlet to 4.5" outlet cannon on the back of my supra with a full 3" straight through turbo back exhaust and I use one of those silencers in my cannon and it makes a huge difference but I can't boost it with it in there but for rolling home late at night into my quiet neighbourhood it's perfect and takes seconds to install and remove.
I had a full race 3" coming off of a skunk2 alpha header on my FG2 and it was just way too loud. So I remembered how well borla treated me when I had lincoln mark VIII. To my suprise they made an exhaust for my car that would bolt up to my header but it was 2.75". Long story short I spoke with borla and they convinced me that it would make the same power if not more. It does, I picked up an average of about 7hp throughout the rev range 2hp at top rpm and in some places I was making 15-20 more hp in the rev range. It looks like a stock R18 exhaust and sounds beautiful when you get on it but its super quiet 90% of the time. ***I did have to do some tuning for this result but it was not much***
in my teenager years thru mid 20s. I prefer the 3" straight exhaust without silencer. In my late 20s to early 30s. I can live with the same with silencer... Now, in my late 30s, I definitely would trade 50 horsepower for a nice sounded exhaust without any drone. (ex. something like the stock high-end performance car. It loud enough when at full throttle, but there is no drone when cruising on highway that kind of exhaust.)
I'm sure anyone who has a loud exhaust can add a silencer, and I'm not trying to bag on your choice because it is a good one, but I do think it could have been interesting to see an aftermarket active exhaust solution as I can't seem to find anyone really adding their own system.
Lol I just put a 3" exhaust on my 3.8L check the video out but now I think it's too loud lol. I a need a muffler to quiet it down but can't be restrictive. Cool video👍
try motorcycle baffles, worked very well on my old w202 kompressor after straight piping mid section left a bit of drone. Added the baffles at end of super44 muffler and it created a nice unique sound with no more drone. cheers!
Old school motorcycle trick :: Wrap your silencer with some exhaust fiberglass. Use safety wire to hold the fiberglass in place. The more fiberglass/tighter you wrap, the 'mellow'er the tone gets. Takes away the metal-ting-ting sound . Could help reduce the mid-range freq boominess also. Another trick is drill some 1/8th inch holes in the pipe of the silencer. Wrap the entire silencer with metal exhaust wrapping. This metal wrapping will not blow out like the fiberglass, the holes add flow.
Wait?! Another Honda owner with cannon exhaust that regretted it and Installed a silencer? When it starts to rattle in about a week It will really take me back to nostalgia land.
I have a Megan OE-RS exhaust on my car, and it sounds barely above stock (which is what I wanted). Some people have said it's a knock off of the Greddy Spectrum Elite, but I don't see the similarities at all (for 2nd gen "GE" Honda Fits). The Megan is quieter, the muffler is bigger, placed differently, and comes with a silencer as well (which makes it sound stock). Long story short, I couldn't use that turndown cannon.
@The mech a nic, You mean aside from all his sponsors who gave him free tools, and all the videos where me mentions the brand names of the products? Nope, not at all.
that sounds awesome. Good job on the video. if you wanted to quit it down a little more you could wrap that silencer tube with some exhaust packing. but all in all it sounds really good
You could have put a v-band or used a wide band clamp to be able to swap between the mufflers if you wanted. I have a similar setup on my integra. I used a slip fit connection. So I can swap between a quiet muffler and my Apexi N1. Just takes a wrench and a couple minutes to unhook the hangers.
would have been cool to see what the original exhaust sounded like too... Nice little back to back to hear what the difference between the turndown and full muffler would sound like.
the only video with the old exhaust is of them on the track or on the dyno... fine idea but not exactly a great comparison given the mic system was completely different and the in car on the track actually sounds a lot quieter relative to his voice. If you can find a good clip that'd be awesome, but I couldn't find one showing much of a volume difference.
I have a 95 civic with a crazy noisy exhaust that leaves me deaf after a ride. What would you or any of your viewers here recommend me to do? To completely make it silence. Got my exhaust replaced yesterday. Stock 04 Acura tsx went from being a very low roar to extra bass. Normal with aftermarket exhausts? Thanks. My mechanic also installed my driver side muffler with a pretty significant tilt to the left, so...not too pleased. Gotta get a hold of them today.
My car with a full 3 inch turboback exhaust with no cat is so quiet with a FGK Legalis R Evolution muffler. Just a tiny bit louder than stock exhaust and flow a lot better than stock.
Is that a wisefab kit? I heard you can't use those for the street as its illegal apparently according to Wisefab themselves. Also don't rev your engine in a closed off place, turn it off. Do that type of stuff outside.
you have any recommendations for what I should do if I have the k-tuned turn down muffler if the silencer isnt going to work? you think a vibrant ultra quiet resonators would do the trick?
Ok so any ideas how to quiet down my 2016 mustang gt? Longtube headers, no cats 3in parallel pipes into resonators and then magnaflow mufflers. Any ideas to bring my volume down?
Hi there I had a full exhaust on my japan 1999 Toyota Corolla bug eye model and i put the silencer in and the stuff in the muffler started to fell out when i removed the silencer
My 5.3l Vortec is making just over 400HP and 530lb-ft (nearly stock, nothin' too crazy) and makes virtually zero noise in the cab with stock diameter (3") straight pipes. I have no idea what is going on with your car lol. It is super loud in the driver's seat, I would hate that on a daily driver... I can only tell my car is running by the vibration in the gas and break pedals, or when I roll the window down. If I really hammer down, then yeah, it sounds just a teeny bit louder than your idle...
I have headers to a cat delete 2.5 " all the way back to a 3 chamber round muffler ending with a obx ovel muffler so the system sounds very low tone until high rpms, without the chambered muffler it sounded VERY canny
I mig the hangers because I can hold the hanger in place and use the gun with the other hand. With a tig it requires a lot more effort since you need two hands. I actually tig'd the hangers when I welded them on.
Thanks for all the suggestions about a resonator but we already installed one when we built the original exhaust!
just sent it no silencer! im excite to hear my car start up for the first time. Ktuned Ram Header to 3" Magnaflow cat, Vibrant Ultra Quiet Res and Turndown muffer.

18" magnaflow resonator from any muffler shop put a hush on my 3" real nice, made it even deeper. no rasp at all.
Helmholtz resonator is a great thing to reduce the loud without power loss
Is it just me or did the silencer make it louder and more rice sounding than just the exhaust before
EXACTLY.
I feel like the mic adjusted to be louder Because there's less bass but I feel like it sounds better just a little raspy
💯 it did.
Yup sounded louder WITH the silencer

Good Job Done.. Was The Cat Converter On Still..??
It’s perfect without the silencer for me 😁
How do I make my exhaust sound like..only after 4000rpm?
Looks: turndown all day
Sound: quite is always nicer, as long as the induction noise is crisp
I liked what Tom from Tom's Turbo Garage did. I think I would have done that first.
Exhaust pipe clamp cutters are probably the cleanest and easiest. A saws-all is the faster.
There is a solution to get rid of the "honda noise" and get the performance! TURBO!
I’ve also noticed in my case that my doors cause really bad vibrations so I’ll probably add some small squares of sound deadening
My car with a full 3 inch turboback exhaust with no cat is so quiet with a FGK Legalis R Evolution muffler. Just a tiny bit louder than stock exhaust and flow a lot better than stock.
Legalis R is a tri-flow muffler, similar to stock. :) Most effective, albeit with a little loss of power.
Is the legalis super R the same?
I have stock mufflers and qtp cutouts so you can get the loud sound when you want it but then it doesn’t drone on the highway when it’s closed.
Look up Vacuum operated Loud Valves.... Quiet to creep in the neighborhood or tooling down the highway, loud and open when you are hammering on it...
Flowmaster on my evo sounds pretty good. Give one of those a try.
How about adding a resonator instead of that insert? Or maybe that won't decrease the drone?
Is that a wisefab kit? I heard you can't use those for the street as its illegal apparently according to Wisefab themselves. Also don't rev your engine in a closed off place, turn it off. Do that type of stuff outside.
Great video but my car won't stop to rev bomb or spit fire through exaust can you please help its 2inch straight pipe exaust.
"give the ol' milwaukee sawzall a go here" *looks brand new*
you have any recommendations for what I should do if I have the k-tuned turn down muffler if the silencer isnt going to work? you think a vibrant ultra quiet resonators would do the trick?
say guys that make videos with loudest exhaust ive heard in a while :)
Ok so any ideas how to quiet down my 2016 mustang gt? Longtube headers, no cats 3in parallel pipes into resonators and then magnaflow mufflers. Any ideas to bring my volume down?
Where did you get your triple gauge pod? It’s clean under the stereo deck like that.
Your car with the silencer sounds like my base Rsx with the vibrant muffler and stock exhaust
I can’t recall, are you running a resonator before the muffler? Definitely sounds better, but I’d be curious to hear it with a resonator as well.
Add like a magnaflow with that set up it will sound a lot quieter

wow what a nice build
vibrant performance or jones exhaust makes some great resonators.
Use Helmholtz resonator to eliminate drone. The longer you make it the more rpm you will cover to eliminate the drone.
Any axleback recommendations for a 2014 Lancer
My 5.3l Vortec is making just over 400HP and 530lb-ft (nearly stock, nothin' too crazy) and makes virtually zero noise in the cab with stock diameter (3") straight pipes. I have no idea what is going on with your car lol. It is super loud in the driver's seat, I would hate that on a daily driver... I can only tell my car is running by the vibration in the gas and break pedals, or when I roll the window down. If I really hammer down, then yeah, it sounds just a teeny bit louder than your idle...
thats y i like exhaust cutouts. i can keep my quiet exhaust and get a loud one at a click of a button.
BRB sending this to all my ghetto Honda friends
you shoulda put a V-band or flange on it so you can easily swap mufflers
That car sounds beautiful idk what your talking about.
I have headers to a cat delete 2.5 " all the way back to a 3 chamber round muffler ending with a obx ovel muffler so the system sounds very low tone until high rpms, without the chambered muffler it sounded VERY canny
i love how hes wearing chris fix tshier
Just wondering, why did you tig the pipe end and mig the hangars? Was it for a better seal where the exhaust connects?
I mig the hangers because I can hold the hanger in place and use the gun with the other hand. With a tig it requires a lot more effort since you need two hands. I actually tig'd the hangers when I welded them on.
i believe HE IS CHRIS FIX!
Def silencer for daily. It would drive me nuts. I mean, I love the deep drone, but only for so long.
Doesn't that muffler reduces the exhaust diameter size? Wouldn't put another straight through box in the middle of the car work better?
