Back in the day the 1989 Ken Griffey Jr. Upper Deck RC, was the must have card. It's still iconic, and a big reason a lot of people got into/back into collecting. Those of us that were buying during the junk wax era thought that was the retirement card of our future. Oh well
my grandpa gave me his 1989 ken griffey upper deck rc i just sent it in to psa no idea what the grade will be but nonetheless whatever it comes back as will be something to hold on to
I still say there are 3 baseball cards that define each era and the hobby: T-206 Honus Wagner defines the tobacco card era. 1952 Topps Mantle defines the bubble gum era. 1989 Upper Deck Griffey defines the High End non-bubble gum era.
There was simply way too much supply for the 1989 UD Griffey to be compared to any grail cards. I get that it is most popular, but it is not most valuable. A more realistic approach would be to compare the 1989 Bowman Tiffany to these iconic grails, since it had a more limited print run. However, if you're set on the 1989 UD Griffey, I guess you could say the rare errors and proof blank backs could help define the era, given their rarity and value. Me personally, pop reports scare me, so I don't put money into anything that isn't considered a rare collectible.
I have a lot of Ken Griffey Jr. 89 cards, 89 donruss, 89 Topps etc and in great condition…..I see these cards on eBay posted for various prices, I saw one posted for 50 grand lol….can you explain why someone posted that high? I’m just wondering if I have cards that could get me a lot of money….. I was a big collector back in late 80s early 90s….I have some Nolan Ryan Diamond kings off set cards that was listed very high on eBay but not sure if those sellers was just listing that high and hoping that someone might be stupid to pay that much
Great video. Awesome memories going to the king dome and watching him play. I use to collect sports cards when I was kid. Now getting back into collecting again.
I recently read 600,000 sets were produced, but that there are over a million Griffey cards. Read bullet point 4 and 5 in above article as to the reasons why.
I have a 1999 Upper Deck Choice Ken Griffey Blue Star quest SQ1 card that has 2 mistakes on it. On the back side is has Juan Gonzalez's photo on it, and it is labeled SQ2 on it. I can't find any info on if this card is a valuable error card. Can you help?
@@BreakoutCardsyeh I believe he was called up mid year so there’s some minor/rookie cards mixed in for 89. 90s have a lot year 1 cards but they’re not worth much
I found a giant box of sports cards in my parents house and found the fleer and tops card togther concealed in a plastic casing together side by side Know how much this would go for sold together?

Awesome video - Griffey was most impactful and popular player for the hobby since MIckey Mantle imo.
Bruh
He changed the game for the modern era. He had a Willy Mays glove and a Mickey mantle bat. The Kid is a legend

Technically speaking there is stark difference between rookie card and rookie year cards. This list I find misleading.
Griffey was called up in 1989. His minor league cards are xrc
