After your boots are clean and dry, it's time to condition them. Conditioning is great for waterproofing boots, adding life to the leather, and general appearance. When you condition your Nicks, you can add years of wear to their lifespan. With the oils and waxes added to the leather, you can be sure your boots will hold up. If you've ever wondered how to make your boots look new again or how do I condition my boots, this video is for you. We use obenauf's heavy duty lp conditioner to waterproof and condition boots. When you invest in Nicks, you've invested in the best. Nicks Boots in Spokane Washington has been making the toughest handmade boots since 1964. As always, if you have additional questions, check out our FAQs below!

As an alternative, I use wax without color on the heel stack and sole edges when the black has faded. Also, the black uppers become dark brown after extensive use and I use a neutral leather conditioner to preserve the "worn" color. It's a super cool look and gives the boots a lot of character.
These videos are extremely relaxing and kind of therapeutic in a way lol
Understand that if you order customs you're looking at 16-20 weeks when I ordered mine a good two months ago. The try on boots where pretty cool, not the same model or size but they were nice. When I called to talk to the people, the gentleman I talked to was very polite and tried to work me through everything. Timing was not considered and I think it's 16 to 20 weeks from that phone call is when I'm supposed to get my boots. But who knows. Being an oil worker I can't wait to have boots the last me more than a year or two.
Glad to hear you're enjoying them!
The man himself giving a thorough explanation on how to condition, simple and well done.
I just got my first pair of Nicks and man I am happy so far. They’re neat. Now to see how the wear and last in my career. 20 year plumber going strong
I would like to see one on care for the waxed flesh please.
Great idea!
Please
I like to make sure everything is warmed up before I start to condition my boots. I stick my boots in front of a space heater and put my can of Huberd's Shoe Grease in a pot of water on the stove. Between those two things, my boots drink the conditioner in much faster and in greater quantity. Unless I go completely overboard as well, the don't feel greasy or oily afterwards, either.
Looking at the toe boxes it looks like these could really benefit from some shoe trees. They help push out the toebox creases during cleaning/treating which is hugely beneficial as these are almost always the first failure points in your boot leather
I always like and comment to help the algorithm I'm gonna be making a 2 month review of my builder pro towards the end of this month
Awww too kind. Looking forward to it!
Already watched it, getting ready to order my first pair of hot shots this coming week
Nice! Welcome to Nicks!
Nathan do you have a video that talks about when a resole is needed and when a rebuild is needed? Is the decision generally based on a time of use and/or age , visual wear condition or a feeling of break down in the boot?
Can't wait for my black all rough out builder pros to come in and my all rough out waxed roberts!
Loved that want one on rough out leather
Great choice!
I would condition first with Nicks Leather Oil and follow up with a light coat of Nicks LP. Heat the treated boots with a hairdryer and rub it in thoroughly with your hand while still warm. By the way, use could use edge dressing instead of paste polish. Great video !
I love these videos and have a request. I haven’t seen any videos about the wedge worker boot. Can you do a video comparing the wedge worker to the builder pro with the honey sole? I’m a commercial plumber and trying to decide between the 2 boots.
Nick’s grease is just rebranded obenauf’s?
My boots are roughout lowers and smooth uppers. Anything different I need to do on the roughout part? I have Builder Pro in Walnut.
I use Nick's Boot Oil on my leather gun holsters.
Great idea!
@@nicksboots It would be cool if you guys made gun holsters.
Saw the video with Will Stelter. Now starting to save up to buy my first pair of Nick's ! :)
Awesome! Let us know if you have any questions!
Can you create a video on how to clean and condition brown leather look on heel/sole edge to keep the brown/natural look which was original? Thank you.
Is this the same way you would condition black wax flesh ? Or would you only use oil?
What about the inside? What's the tricks for keeping inside nice?
Shouldn't be nothing wrong with the inside besides maybe some insole wear
Hi, I have a question about silicone in shoe waxes or oils. I have noticed that now Red Wing Shoe Mink Oil has silicone as well as lanolin. Is there a problem silicone will harm stitching threads? Your advise is much appreciated
The only problem that I have heard about with silicone is drying out the leather, although if mixed with lanolin, this would not be an issue. Silicone will not adversely affect stitching.
Hey Nicks, what do I do if the edge of the bottom outsole was originally a natural color
Should I oil my heelstack?
I do if exposed to water/ snow, it gets dry pretty quick
If your boot's sole is natural, what's the best product for the edging?
This product in "Neutral". nicksboots.com/lincoln-stain-wax-shoe-polish/
Nice!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Hi when is first time apply cream on orange predator leather?
How long should I wait after using oil / grease to use shoe polish ?
How do I fix my toe box without a rebuild? I hade some build a few years ago and they keep causing ingrown nails. I have since had my nail removed and don’t want to wait 6 months to get mine rebuilt.
Sounds like your boots don't fit one bit.
Is it the same cleaning and conditioning process for rough out leather?
Indeed!
Just curious is the Lincoln Stain Wax what you guys use when you build them new?
It is not, but good for maintenance.
@@nicksboots do you know how the NEUTRAL Lincoln Stain Wax will react with the oak tanned heel stack and midsole? Will it give it that rich color again?
Does the heavy grease prevent the leather from breathing as well as before, thereby causing your feet to get hotter and sweater?
It will just a little.
How should one care for rough out leathers
Same process. Rough out leathers lose their fuzzyness over time and become more smooth, so you shouldn't ldnt worry about that
Hi how long do you have to wait for boots to be made?
We have some that can ship tomorrow! Reach out if you're looking for something specific!
1:46 That's what she said
Has anyone used Ballistol on these boots?
Ballistol is for guns, not leather.
You haven't finished it off.
Safir shoe cleaning products seem to be recommended by all the high-end shoe companies. I haven't used them, but they swear by them.
@@stuartbritton7408 Finished it off? You mean polish?
JFC. Put shoe trees in your boots. And stop being scared to use leather dye to restore color to your boots.
