Yay thank you for this! As soon as I watched Kaos I was like, I need a historical/mythology take on what's going on in these episodes, especially interested in any sneaky easter eggs and nods to other stories throughout! Excited for the rest of the series!

As a huge fan of Greek mythology, I LOVED this show. I also feel that not everything needs to be 100% consistent with the myths as the myths themselves aren't 100% consistent, but it gets so much great flavor and there's enough of some versions of the myths.
I don't know if you ever do video games, but I also really loved Stray Gods. It's not a full-on video game like Hades as it's more a choose your own adventure musical where you make choices and the songs and story change because of it. You don't need skill, just interact with the story. It's also a telling of the Greek gods in the modern era and I think you might like it.

As a Classics teacher, I loved this series too. It captures perfectly what are the greek myths : a mixture of grotesque, humor, tragedy, poetry and sadness. I love the inventions because they make sense in the story : the tongueless priestesses of Hera are useful to the plot in several instances, in a bizarre and poetic way that is perfectly on brand.

I watched all 8 episodes last weekend. I know most of the mythological background. I enjoyed the remixing of the characters and some of the mythological stories to tell the specific story being told here. Looking forward to your thoughts. I feel the modern setting/retelling makes the archetypes more relatable to a modern audience. It makes sense that Dionysus would be partying in a club. King Minos in the uniform of a junta general is more instantly relatable than in a crown. Even Zeus's tracksuits and chains tell us more about him instantly than the traditional clothing of mythology.

Given the way they're picking up strange odds and ends from the mythology, kind hoping for Aphrodite Areia to make an appearance, rather than the normal depiction of the Aphrodite Pandemos "ditzy" type . The idea of the introduction being "I'm Aphrodite." then her just decking someone is really appealing.
I do like the depiction of Zeus as the ultimate tasteless billionaire archetype - it kind of fits the historical character pretty well. Additionally, a point worth a little note is that the watch Zeus was originally wearing was a gift from Hercules, and it's very evident that he's playing favorites.

Yesss this is exactly why I love it! I also LOVE your thinking with Aphrodite 🤞

I think that I have a unique take on the Divines. If we think of them conceptually, they represents aspects of our collective reality. With that in mind, we may be worshiping the Divines without knowing it. I see Aphrodite Areia as one of the main goddesses in modern culture, the hot warrior woman depicted in countless video games and AI art.

I'd love a separate video on all the references! I love Greek myth but there are so many stories and variations, so I'm sure I missed quite a few little easter eggs

Commenting to feed the algorithm. This was excellent. Greatly enjoyed it. I’m also greatly enjoying the show, even though the mythology nerd part of my brain keeps complaining. I just keep telling myself that every retelling of a myth is valid.

I loved the show. I pray to gods there will be a season 2. The only issue I have is that I think the actors who play gods should be in godlike shape. Poseidon shouldn't be so out of shape. Unless this is the reality of gods now enjoying fast food...

A note: if you slow down the video when "Riddy" (ie Eurydice) is knocked down and killed by a van... the name on the side of the van is Serpent Services!.. those into mythology will appreciate why... (also, notice that, in the beginning, Zeus struts around in a gaudy tracksuit, on the back are stitched silver thunder bolts)

I am curious to see if they would ever do the timeywimey weirdness of Herakles Alcaeon and Dactylos; especially with how he plays (or fails to play) into the generational melodrama: He is the only son of Zeus that marries a daughter of Hera, but he seems well contented with not bearing a crown
But doesnt Dionysus teach Orpheus the Orphic Mysteries, or did no myth of the teaching come down to now just the understanding of the origin of the mysteries?

Based on only watching the trailer, the show strikes me as blasphemous, so I think it would annoy me as someone who believes in honouring the Divines. Am I misjudging? Pre-judging?

Remove the clikbait title, because it's a review, not a reaction...
