    Hey y'all. I haven't had the opportunity to use the EAD10 in a live situation during the short time I had my paws on the sample, so I can't comment on that at the moment. The comments I've been seeing on other videos have been mixed but actually in favour of it working OK. I'm still on the 'I'll believe it when I see it' side of the fence, just because of what it is, but according to a few users out there, it worked pretty well with minimal bleed.

      Rob Brown I assume you mean using it live as in going to front of house but what I’ve been curious about is how well it might work to monitor myself better? I use in ears to protect my ears and do my best to get what I can through them but when monitoring consideration at a venue is minimal (often just vocal) I can’t always mic up just for me and therefore judge my balance to the rest of the band and feel my hats are drowned out by guitar cabs etc. . I’m told it sounds fine out front but if the EAD10 could mean I can hear myself in my ears without a massive setup I’d buy one immediately!

    • @RobBeatdownBrown
      @RobBeatdownBrown  6 лет назад

      That’s an interesting idea, man. Assuming you’re using a small mixer, you could indeed plug it into a channel or two just to hear yourself better. Because you can turn yourself up in it’ll most likely help you control your volume in ‘loud’ rooms by preventing you from hitting harder. Using my UE7s I was getting tons of volume in my ears while barely touching the kit. Give it a shot.

      Rob Brown Hi Rob!! It is clear from the title that you are being fare and square about what you now about this product so far. I 've been looking all the videos from "real life situations", but they are really not. Real is bass amp to your left, guitar amp on your right... As far I understand, to equally represent tom, snare, bd - you have to manipulate it with a lot of compression within EAD. That compression could interpret bleed as actual drum sound and amplify it to the level of drum components.
      I only trust you to test this device.
      Hope to hear from you soon!!!
      Best regards,
      Mladjan

      Hi I bought one of these a few weeks ago and on the whole I think it is a great idea. Unfortunately I seem to be having issues with the kick trigger as I had to crank the sensitivity up to almost max to get any response out of it. Initially I thought I had a faulty sensor unit so I sent it back and got a replacement. But the new one is the same, I have to turn up the sensitivity very high and wack the hell out of the kick and even then it it isn't consistently responsive. Any going to spend a few hours this weekend to try and bottom it out. But I would be interested if any users have had the same issue, just try the trigger with the mic off and no effects.
      However I have tried it live and this unit saved my life at a gig last week (at the Cavern in Liverpool), my normal drum monitor feed through my IEM's was just awful, couldn't get it right so at the break I connected the EAD10 into my little mixer, turned all my normal drum feeds off (via the tablet app) and mixed the feed from the EA10 into the mix and it was great, it even removed that feeling of isolation that you get via IEM's due to the ambiance via the mics on the sensor. Also I play in Genesis tribute band so I have a bit kit (8 drums) and it picked them all up no problem with very little bleed from the rest of the band although admittedly there isn't a lot of on stage amplification as everything is DI'd.
      So once I get my trigger issues sorted out I will be a happy bunny with this piece of kit.

    • @WinstonTizzer
      @WinstonTizzer 6 лет назад

      Hi. I play in a tribute band and I have the module. I'm finding it troublesome to avoid feedback issues at small venues so I have been trying various methods to reduce that. I use 3 trigger pads in addition and the problem is getting those effects amplified enough through the PA without causing the feedback. I came close to getting it acceptable but that involved switching the microphone to a minus setting. It still picked up the acoustic kit but the sound guy did say he needed to mic the kick drum so when I got home I assumed I would be able to rebalance the kick sensor by increasing the sensitivity of the kick trigger but I seem to be having your problem. I would be very keen to share experience of this. We have bought some IEM's now and I thought that might assist but at a gig at the weekend I was finding that the module was feeding back at low Master volume and therefore I assumed that was caused by the on stage amplification being used by my bandmates. Any help from anyone would be great please. I love this thing. I used to trigger everything through a Roland but it is fiddly and it replicates rather than enhances acoustic drums and I prefer this solution if I can get it to work properly in small live venues.

  • @larrykingrey5647
    @larrykingrey5647 2 года назад +9

    Rob, one item I find important is that the EAD10 with its live mics used in a live band situation and when it’s output is connected to the main PA for the drum inputs to main PA will also pickup the rest of the band instruments and vocals, which would be a bad thing. The EAD10 is only applicable where the drums are isolated from any other instruments and vocals (including the drummers vocals) in the vicinity of the EAD10 mics.

      Just got one for our drummer last 1st gig sound check in 30sec. At first low end feedback, I loaded in a kick drum patch on the mixer channel for the gate then I flatten out the EQ . Never a problem after that. Regular drum mics always pick up every thing on stage, it comes with the live music experience. Less mic cables too wrap up at the end of the night is my favorite part👍
      Definitely worth every penny

    It's a bit pricey for me. But I use an external condenser mic, in a laptop and run it through GarageBand with a separate track of imported songs I play to on playback. I use and extension cable for my headphones. So I hear what GarageBand hears and I can use filters with some EQ & reverb, compression after since I record dry. For an ambient-style drum recording, it's not bad. Nothing beats mic-ing the drums individually, but I use practice rooms and don't want to waste rent time for set-up. I still need to adjust the drums to my body. I prep the tracks, mic sensitivity and have it open so I can get started as soon as possible.
    I would like to use this EAD10.

      @JasonWelchMusic 6 месяцев назад

      Yes. If you're wanting demo quality home recordings, this thing is amazing. It will record the entire kit all by itself. However, I reccomend ADDING the snare and tom triggers to your ead10. Though they're not necessary, they give you better control and more options.
      Overhead mics aren't a necessity, because the ead10 does a pretty good job of recording the entire kit. But just like the ttiggers, overhead mics will definitely make your recordings sound better. It will also give you a more stereo sound.
      When you decide to get some overhead mics, I reccomend HEIL PR31BW. They're directional dynamic mics that work well with guitar, sax, organs, snares, toms, overheads, and just about everything else you can imagine. But I use mine for overheads because they filter out background noise like air conditioning, passing cars, etc. So they're great for home recordings. Most homes aren't well treated for recording, and the HEIL PR31BW as overheads really help. (Sorry if this sounds like a HEIL commercial... I just love their mics)😊

      yes me too. I need some help getting it to work effectively with acoustic and triggered pads in small live venues. The issue is avoiding feedback but getting settings right to hear the triggered pads at equivalent volume to the rest of the kit. I have tried reducing the mic sensitivity (curiously it goes into minus as well as positive settings). This allows the Master vol to be increased but without triggering the feedback. But that's only been in rehearsal.

      I have used several times live now, and it never dissapointed me. Of course, it is for small size venues / pubs / clubs, but then again, the preparation for those shows (setting drums, setting mics, sound check, etc,.) is reduced by a lot. Just a word of warning here based on my experience. Make sure that the unit is fixed right up against the bass drum hoop. I have had problems hearing the trigger. I tried all sorts of settings then re-read the Manual. It says the two sensors built into the unit have to be in contact with the bass drum hoop. I doublecked mine and could see a very slight gap. Problem is that you can only force the unit up against the head so far and depending on the width of your hoop, contact might not be possible. I tried loosening the head right down which then established the contact. I dont know if the unit itself can be fiddled with to adjust the position of the sensors so that one of them can be altered to get a better contact. Anyone had this issue?

      I also had issues with the actual triggering for the kick drum couldn't get it fine tuned so I purchased the footblaster triggers and installed them into the Yamaha ead10. I still use the mic from the ead10 but turned off the actual trigger to the built in mic.

      The trigger sucks, use an alternate trigger if using kick sounds is a priority.

  • @peteshifter

    This doesn't work when blending EAD's sound and acoustic sound: shells are ok but we can hear 2 differents hi-hats. Doesn't feel natural at all! I guess it's the same problem with crashes.
    I had the same issue trying to layer cymbals in Superior Drummer 3. You cannot stack 2 cymbal sounds if they are to different.

    Nice for adding effects and triggering, but lightyears away from how a kit sounds when properly mic'ed. It really doesn't work as a substitute for micing up individual drums.

    Can the Microphone be attached somewhere besides the Bass Drum? I play a Rack and sit pretty low, my Ride sits directly above my Bass Drum about 3" so I'm wondering if that might take away from picking up the rest of the Kit. Mine should arrive in a day or 2 but figured I'd throw the question out If anyone has experience with this (Positioning of the Mic).

    The what I dub the "alien kit" sounded kinda cool.I was wondering if were you talking into the EAD10 or overheads? Also is there a limit to how many toms it can pick up? Another great video and yamaha product r review. Yamaha EAD10👊

    • @RobBeatdownBrown
      @RobBeatdownBrown  6 лет назад +3

      It wasn't picking up the far 16" as well, so the tighter/smaller your kit, the better.

    • @rossrinkenbaugh4005
      @rossrinkenbaugh4005 6 лет назад

      Right on, sounds like a perfect fit for the 4 or 5 piece standard kit setups like in most recording studios. Also I wonder if a drum shield would help the EAD10 pick up the far drums.

    • @RobBeatdownBrown

      Triggers have gotten much better over the years. That definitely used to be the case, though. This EAD does a pretty good job of picking up the nuances
