Even though you say it is a capital punishment, the severity of punishment is far greater on the poor than the rich and powerful. Rich can afford to install expensive air purifiers in every room in their house, own expensive BS 6 compliant cars and engage others go out to get the job done. The poor can hardly afford to even light their stove if they can't go out to work. Nature and the elements treat the rich and poor the same but the impact is vastly different.
There's no improvement in India. Things will get worse in India especially in the north, based on its track record. I would suggest to move out instead if we have no way to protest against the corrupt incompetent government and greedy oligarchs.
Getting to this level of pollution is also a long term process. The big question is where was the leadership to avoid this as the air was gradually getting worse. Having China as an example is even worse because they should know to prioritize avoid the same mistakes for their citizens
@@danielfergusson849democracy will make them fail. I don't see Indian politicians implement drastic measures to curb emissions. They care more about next election and votes. They are now reaping their demographic dividend
Five years ago, when I wasn't living in Delhi, I used to think this wasn't my problem. I believed it was a region-specific issue that didn't affect me. However, I haven't seen the sun for the past two weeks, and the air quality index (AQI) has exceeded 2000 in some parts of Delhi. I am feeling short of breath, my eyes are red, and I'm struggling to breathe. All of this has happened because we, including politicians and officials, thought this wasn't our problem.
Poor farmers are bearing the brunt as the cause for all of Delhi's current air pollution troubles. Mind you our farmers had been following stubble burning as a sustainable and economic way of farm management for centuries. But Delhi's air pollution is a recent phenomenon. So who is the real culprit? It's the petrol and diesel guzzling cars and other transport vehicles on Delhi's roads that have exploded in numbers in recent years. The rich don't want to change their lifestyle but want the poor farmers to give up their traditional practice so that the rich can continue their wasteful lifestyles.
Our country have such intellectual politicians that they will keep playing blame game on this problem. Just see. Manipur and this now. What is even the use of a government if it can't do the basic stuff for people
Punjab is the biggest polluter for Delhi and Lahore! Delhi is suffering, AAP busy setteling Rohingya muslims in Delhi for votes. Central govt also responsible as they are sleeping on this and no strict action beforehand!
@ who says there was zero pollution, of course when there were very less vehicle on road then pollution THROUGHOUT the year was less during Covid BUT the stubble burning esp in Punjab increased tremendously during Covid times.
A country's priority is a reflection of it's own. People protest for religion not for a decent lifestyle. This is what you get

Improving Air quality is a long-term process, it took China 10 years to make it better. Good luck to India.
