You have to hear him sing "I Can't Make You Love Me". There's something in his voice, that conveys real emotion. It's beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. Real magic.

I watched Iam's audition that same week, but I listened again today and cried again. He's in the Top 5 of American Idol now, and I hope he wins. When the season began, I am ashamed to say that I thought there was no way that a person so overweight could win, but I was sure wrong. He is amazing. Inside out, he is a beautiful person that shares his light wherever he goes. I love the guy.
I feel bad for his health I hope he makes changes I’m not saying that to be mean just hope he can live a happy healthy life.

My mom passed three months ago, and I would have had this song sung at her funeral service, if I knew about this song. I believe he belongs to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, from a previous video I saw him sing Amazing Grace in front of one of our Temples.

He isnt singing to showcase his voice... he is singing to his dad.. and that degree of sincerity... is what made the judges cry along with him...
Lots of artists can wow you with their raw technical talent....bang out these amazing notes..... but only a few can draw you into their heart... Neil Young had it... Al Green had it... Stevie Nicks had it... James Taylor had it... Karen Carpenter had it... And this guy has it... He has it... It's the IT-Factor...

I lost my mom 3 days ago to a 3 year battle of cancer and everyday is a battle for me. She was half of my body and my soul and like my dad said “she was the boat that kept me floating” every year my boat kept breaking and breaking and eventually when she passed my boat finally sunk. I’m now living in the middle of the ocean alone for the sharks to take me away.

I've always enjoyed hearing someone singing in a breathy soft way. A lot can sing loudly but the few can control it softly with fluctuations. That's truly a natural ability!!

Given his incredible talent not only as a singer but as an amazing acoustic musician and growing up around a Polynesian family on an island like Hawaii it would not surprise me that he would have been invited to sing at many funerals and memorials for families and friends despite his age.
His voice is mature and articulate but to a degree that is very personal and from a space of humble respect and regard for ancestors and respected persons of familial importance.
It does not surprise me that he got through this performance because I believe he brings some experience and humility for whom the song was intended.
