    An excellent tour, Sharon - so pleased to see you getting settled in the artistic retreat that you so fully deserve. I don't know if you ever watched Dr Who, but your studio puts me in mind of the Tardis which looks normal-sized from the outside but is gigantic and contains so much once you enter. Incidentally, I was sorry to hear about Tom's passing (and the sad circumstances of it). I remember him sending you that red fountain pen - and he & I had exchanged a couple of comments on your RUclips page a few years ago. I think he also posted a few items in the Instagram group, again a few years ago. On a happier note it was good to see Diesel behaving himself on the back of the settee (even if his glare seemed to suggest he wasn't feeling like the happiest bunny in the world today LOL). Anyway, thanks for the tour, it was worth waiting for. All the best, Brian.

      Thank you Zoe. It is Heaven to me. We bought the property about 31 years ago and built the house about 28-29 years ago. It was drywalled and plumbed and livable as a cottage but the intention when we were 30 was to one day live here. Then putting our kids through private school it was just never the right time to finish it. Until the year before Pat retired. We could finally pay off all of our debt, and move here, and we have been finishing it over the last 2 years. As well as adding on to our barn, building my studio etc. So much work. But we knew it was our forever home.

    I'd love to know how you feel every time you walk into your studio... I think I would feel utter JOY having such a beautiful light filled space like that ALL to myself. The only art I'm interested in doing is watercolours and sketching and I feel that I have SOOOO many supplies, though it's a mere fraction of what you have and I often wonder will I live long enough to get through all my paints and get to use all my palettes and brushes and paper (though I'm doing my best to get through my 3+ years old paper as quickly as possible for fear of the sizing going off), sometimes I get a bit overwhelmed by thought of it all... I can't help thinking how lovely it must be to have some of your creative friends over for an art session or even just a coffee and chat... Cheers and many thanks for sharing with us...

    • @SharonCullenArt
      @SharonCullenArt  4 года назад +2

      Magdalena French Well, first, your paper should never go bad. It is archival. So don’t worry about that. I am new to the area here, and I am still getting to know people. It can be difficult being the new guy. But I am sure over time I will have art friends over. I am still planning on getting the plein air club going but they have just closed down our state again due to covid. I have too much stuff! No doubt. Most of it is due to having the RUclips channel.but my niece is an elementary school teacher and I give her stuff for her 3rd grade class all the time.

    Sharon, what a beautiful studio. My family would have to make me leave that space. I could just live in there. A bathroom & I'd be set. LOL I also have a lab coat I use as a smock. I am very messy when I create. I try to be careful, but I always get something on my clothes if I do not protect them. And sometimes even then. Hehe. So strange, but I'm having the same problem on my knee. It just keeps opening back up. I'm not going back either. If I can help it. But today I can finally walk without a cane or crutch. Yay. Pain seems much better. Hope your finger heals fast. Good luck. TYFS

    • @SharonCullenArt
      @SharonCullenArt  4 года назад

      Yeah it can be hard leaving some days! What did you do to your knee? My finger is in a splint for 6-8 weeks. Then if it hasn’t healed I may need surgery. I had cut a chunk of bone off with the tendon. Go figure. Oh well could be worse..

  • @francinetjones1814
    @francinetjones1814 4 года назад +1

    Sharon, this space is so beautiful; you are a lucky woman and well deserving. Can you recommend a good quality gouache paint. The gouache I have has awful colors and hard to mix; also what is the best permanent ink for fountain pens. Do Lamy Safari come with waterproof cartridges? Thanks for your help.

    • @SharonCullenArt
      @SharonCullenArt  4 года назад

      Ok... Lami Safari pens, you have to buy your empty converter for the pen. Make sure you get one to fit Lami. Some pens come with converters. Some come with cartridges which are profiled meant for one use and throw away although they can be refilled with a syringe. Cartridge ink is usually not waterproof. My favorite ink for cheap pens like lami etc, I like Platinum Carbon. Don’t use this in expensive pens because carbon can build up and clog pens. I have never had a problem with this. If they are left sitting I just take them apart and soak in warm water and they are fine again. I also use Noodlers Bulletproof ink but it takes longer to dry. And the sizing in the paper can make your ink take longer or dry faster. It is just a trial and error thing.
      Gouache... My favorite gouache is M. Graham but they have limited color selection so I also buy some Winsor and Newton colors. I love the Linden green! But watch Winsor and Newton for lightfastness. Someone told me recently that they have changed some. IDK if I believe that though. Also Holbein is terrific. There are other brands, European that are imported and therefore more expensive.

I have d minor Celtic and another on C. But I want to play with my fingers, not the mallets. Don’t jump into it. You really need to do your research. Listen to the different keys. See what sound you’re going for. Listen to tongue drum videos there’s a lot of good information. I took months researching and wish I could’ve afforded the $700 one I wanted.

      Oh really? Where are you at? I am going to get a plein air group together and another subscriber is interested along with many who live in my area.

    I just found your channel and subscribed. I love your studio. What is the total square footage?

    • @SharonCullenArt
      @SharonCullenArt  4 года назад +1

      It is 18x24 or 432 sq ft. Then I have storage in the loft areas on either side. I don’t know that square footage but the loft behind me is big enough that I plan to have furniture or a chair anyway up there so I can sit to look at my knitting books and decide on projects. My rolling ladder is being built right now. It is going to take up space on one side of the room but I’m looking forward to getting into my yarn and knitting again!. And welcome to the family! Thanks for subscribing.

      Yeah it was too expensive for me too! Ha! But I am so happy that we had the money to do it. It is a pretty large space. It could be done much smaller for a lot less money. This was just under $40,000 to build i believe. But a ready made shed would work too. We saved a long time on our retirement. About 40 years so we were fortunate to be able to do it.

      Thanks. I have a great niece who is an aspiring artist who gets lots of my unused supplies. But I may have to begin doing giveaways!

    It's a beautiful studio. I love the branch hanging with the plants. The video is kind of dizzying. It would have been better if you sounded more excited about the studio.

      I was very excited. I'm sorry you didn't hear it. Maybe I was having a bad day with my pain. So sorry.

    • @SharonCullenArt
      @SharonCullenArt  4 года назад

      Vintaj is a machine that embossed. I originally got it to emboss metal for jewelry. But then used it also for card making. Here is a link to a video on it. ruclips.net/video/mE007gurPjA/видео.html

    Love your studio idea. But you have so many art supplies that if you were to work day and night for the rest of your life. You would never use them all. Note: when it comes to colored pencils. You never have too many.

      I agree and in recent videos I speak about this. I am now in a rural area and I’m not sure where to go, but I am going to talk to a local gallery to see if they know of someone.

    Ummmm, where’s the bathroom?

    • @SharonCullenArt
      @SharonCullenArt  4 года назад +3

      No bathroom. My bathroom is in my house about 25 yards away. Putting a bathroom in there would make it another livable dwelling and then I pay taxes on it as I would on my house. We have water that will run 3 seasons. Then in the winter I will take a jug of water for filling my rinse jars etc. Not a big deal for me. I love it.
