Selkirk from buck. Jimping on the back of the blade is for your thumb to get a grip, not for the ferro rod. The oversized choil was designed for the ferro rod.
Morakniv knives are usually not full tang construction. They have made some bushcraft full tang. The buck actually has Micarta handles and the choil of the blade will give a better strike on the rod. Just info I thought I'd pass along. Enjoyed the video. Nice job on the spike knife! 😊
The Buck Selkirk knife is the best one of the group for bushcrafting, but they all look nice and I have three Buck knives and two of them are fixed blades.
That little kit is awesome! Such a great gift. I love how you went straight to getting a fire started. You Knife collection is pretty awesome too! love the train spike knife. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah I've had my Buck Selkirk for about 4 years now, and of all my fixed blades it's the one I've used most, so I'm more than happy with it. Being a full tang full flat ground blade, with micarta handle scales were the main reasons I decided to order it. I'm a sucker for micarta. BTW I'm diggin your railroad spike knife. It'd be cool if someday I made one for myself. Liked & subscribed.
hey WY, just found your channel, i really enjoyed your work, well done. regarding your buck selkirk, i just bought one about a month ago. you mentioned that the rough area (called the jimping) on the dull edge of the blade just forward of the handle is used with the fire steel. not so, that area is for greater control if you're using the blade for close in work, you can put a finger on that part of the knife without it slipping off. that little notch on the cutting edge of the blade just forward of the handle is used with the steel (called the choil). oh, and thanks, i didn't realize that the steel was also a whistle, excellent. best wishes and be safe.
I knew you liked knives but I didn't know you had an addiction like me.....The Buck was great ,I use the Repala a lot, the 4in for Muskrat , and the spike was awesome....Nice ferro rod..lol....Thank's
Very nice gift from Kirk, Kirk's a very nice guy that's for sure, you got a good many beautiful knives there JEN None more Special than the one you made your self turned out great, nothing like a cup of tea no matter what kind of day it is it always taste great hahaha, hope your week is good, nice video take care,
Take a look at the Firebox Stoves instead of trying to burn the forest down there. Just kidding...I know you weren't gonna let that get away from ya! Firebox Nano handy for a quick cup of tea!
That looks great :) I have used the last few years this one as my "every day puukko" www.kivikangas.fi/ahtipuukko-korpi Nothing fancy, just a simple short bladed puukko. A bit rough handle with very good grip. The 79 mm blade is very practical as long as you're not skinning a moose or using the knife as an axe. I've lost a couple of them but like the model so much that I've always bought a new similar :)
On the Buck Selkirk: micarta handle. Jimping on the spine of the blade, 420 stainless blade, one of my favorites.
It's my fave too. Thanks for the info
